Description from store Need to remove unnecessary black bars from this youtube video you're watching? Ultrawidify is here for you. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ TL;DR ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ โš ๏ธ Features automatic aspect ratio detection (some sites do NOT allow this feature) โœ… Works on youtube and twitch. It may also work on other sites, but support of other sites is not guaranteed. โ†”๏ธ Supports both cropping and stretching โœ… Works with youtube theater mode โœ… In-player UI, because you can't really use extension popup while in full screen โ“ How do I use it? If the site does not utilize DRM, you can just sit back and let autodetection handle everything for you. On sites that use DRM โ€” or on videos where autodetection proves unreliable โ€” you can either use the extension popup or the keyboard shortcuts (note that extension shortcuts do not override site's default shortcuts) to set the aspect ratio manually. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Features in detail ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1๏ธโƒฃ Automatic aspect ratio detection This feature ensures that video will be cropped without you having to lift a finger. It runs continuously and will even detect aspect ratio changes that happen in the middle of the video. While autodetection should work fine on most of the videos, it is not 100% accurate and has some limitations: โ—พ The extension may struggle with dark frames (especially the ones that contain text) โ—พ Autodetection may cause high CPU usage (especially on older CPUs) โ—พ It may not be able to keep up with rapid aspect ratio changes โ—พ It cannot work on sites that utilize DRM protection schemes (e.g. Netflix, Disney+) โ€” you will have to adjust aspect ratio manually on those. Certain aspect ratio detection parameters can be tweaked in the extension settings. You can increase (or decrease) the frequency of aspect ratio checking. It is also possible to increase the level of certainty that's required for extension to change the crop. 2๏ธโƒฃ Manual aspect ratio correction For sites that do not support automatic aspect ratio detection, Ultrawidify allows you to manually crop the video. The extension allows you to crop to these aspect ratios by default: โ†’ Fit Width (shortcut: W) โ†’ Fit Height (shortcut: E) โ†’ 21:9 (shortcut: D) โ†’ 18:9 (or 2:1; shortcut: X) โ†’ 16:9 (shortcut: S) You can also reset the aspect ratio back to the initial aspect ratio (shortcut: R). Note that some sites may define keyboard shortcuts that interfere with the shortcuts defined by this extension. In such cases, the shortcuts defined by this extension may not work. 3๏ธโƒฃ Stretch the video You paid for the entire monitor, so you're gonna use all the monitor โ€” even if it means stretching the video into complete garbage? Ultrawidify's got you covered with a bunch of different options: โ†’ Don't: for men of culture โ†’ Basic: for people who just don't care, at all. (This option does not remove the black bars) โ†’ Hybrid: crops the video first and then stretches the video to fill the remaining space โ†’Thin borders โ€” only stretch the video if the black borders are _really_ thin โ†’ 4:3 (src) โ€” not all people are men of culture. Some people torture others by posting 4:3 content stretched to 16:9. This option makes the video 4:3 again. โ†’ 16:9 (src) โ€” ensures that the video is stretched (or squeezed) to 16:9. -- Github's here: https://github.com/tamius-han/ultrawidify Full list of features (WIP): https://github.com/tamius-han/ultrawidify/wiki

  • (2025-06-06) Artur Setyan: Seems to work, but the UI is so annoying and completely unable to be disabled. I disabled in settings, modified .json files and imported them, changed dev settings, but nothing.
  • (2025-04-21) Worstenbroodje: This used to be a very simple tool that worked great, then they tried to "improve" it by adding a UI that contantly pops up even when you disable it, 18:9 stopped working completely, half the times the keyboard shortcuts stop working, the auto scaler has flickering problems when it can't decide on the correct aspect ratio of the video and randomly shrinks the whole video down to a tiny box. It's generally just a pain to use now. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
  • (2025-04-20) Vitaliy P.: worked fine before then after the big UI UPDATE started to fail on some pages, sometimes shrinks the video, can't change binds
  • (2025-03-30) Ahmad Kareem: It used to work much better prior to latest update. Now it randomly shrinks video to a small rectangle, it forces its silly and unnecessary in-player UI by default, it reset my settings from before, it doesn't support hotkeys to scale up/down in steps as it used to.
  • (2025-03-21) Davian Hunkin: For a while now, my extensions been messing with whatever video I'm watching on YouTube. What I mean is that my video will suddenly stop playing and I'll get a "This page is unresponsive" error message. I've taken off the Ultrawidify extension and re-added it multiple times and confirmed that the problem was indeed coming from this extension. Would highly recommend it, if it worked as anticipated, but unfortunately I can't....
  • (2025-03-18) Javier Perry: do NOT use this. the permissions required give it access to anything on your machine. it works, but it's a scam that only works when you give it permission to access everything
  • (2025-02-28) Howl: It works
  • (2025-02-17) Igor Santos: I started having several play issues with all sorts of media - including WhatsApp audios! - for no apparent reason, besides severe freezes when viewing videos on the browser. Today I looked into the Task Manager for Vivaldi and this "simple" extension was eating half a gigabyte of memory, with more than 10 instances. Killed it all and restricted it to youtube.com, praying this will fix my issues.
  • (2025-02-14) ์˜ค๋ˆ„๋ฅด์—๋ผ์ด: Great Extension, but Currently Completely Broken I've been using Ultrawidify for years, and it's been an essential extension for my setup. However, since the recent update, it's become very buggy, and as of today, it has completely stopped working. โ€ข Nothing functions anymore โ€“ autodetection, shortcuts, and even manual settings adjustments donโ€™t work. โ€ข Settings are broken โ€“ If I try to change an option, it doesnโ€™t apply properly. Sometimes it only updates visually but doesn't take effect. โ€ข UI scaling issues โ€“ The quick settings UI has been displaying incorrectly for months now. I appreciate this extension and hope these issues get fixed soon! Also, Iโ€™d love to see a Discord server for reporting bugs, contributing, and making feature suggestions, as some other extensions have. Looking forward to future updates!
  • (2025-02-06) Ewerton Alves: Used to be perfect until version 6.2.1 when stopped working on Vivaldi alongside Enhancer for YouTube. On Brave still works but it's an older version, and I still need to stretch manually. I don't know what happened, but seems a broken extension now. It's sad.
  • (2025-01-30) nas 333: best extension!!! to author very big respect !!! very good/
  • (2025-01-25) Mikhail Burkasov: Revert the update please
  • (2025-01-23) C. Patton: Please go back to the original version. The update is totally broken. It is even interfering with websites where I am not using ultrawidify. Please make the good version available. If you fix it I will come back and give you five stars. Why have you allowed the bad version to run for weeks?
  • (2025-01-21) Titi Antonietti: The update killed the app. It's garbage now. It was THE best one around. The deal breaker is that it randomly shrinks the video for no reason, it never updates nor saves your preferred settings and adds an useless ui to the media player.
  • (2025-01-15) Jayakanth: Please rollback to the previous version or solve the problem. The best extension I have ever used.
  • (2025-01-15) Ben Phou: EDIT: Even more broken, videos on websites other than YouTube will just break and show a black or white screen. ORIGINAL: Broken again. Videos aligning to left side for no reason. Can't change to centre. Disabled extension and video went back to centre.
  • (2025-01-14) Peso: Please don't fix something that isn't broken.
  • (2025-01-13) Teea Dm: Once a great extension turned into utter pre-alpha garbage. Sad. It used to work much better prior to latest update. Now it randomly shrinks video to a small rectangle, it forces its silly and unnecessary in-player UI by default, it reset my settings from before, it doesn't support hotkeys to scale up/down in steps as it used to. I can tell that developer worked a lot on this update and it's looking promising, but from relatively lightweight and easy to use extension which simply worked it turned into a mess.
  • (2025-01-13) David Haas: Automatically moves netflix videos off the screen to the bottom. Youtube is super laggy when going in and out of full screen mode. REVERT THE LAST UPDATE PLEASE
  • (2025-01-07) Paul: New updated killed the extension, doesnt work whatsoever
  • (2025-01-06) MoShU: The latest and greatest update kind of messed up the defaults, basic stretch is not working, unless you manually set it for each video, that lovely over the video UI is non-functional, is totally botched on netflix, I understand things had to be updated to manifest v3 but.... maybe, just maybe, leave a "legacy" version on the extension available.
  • (2025-01-06) Jeremy P (Joblonadon): Worked MUCH better prior to update. Now basic stretch doesn't work, 18:9 doesn't work, stretch to width doesn't work, stretch to height doesn't work, etc, etc.
  • (2025-01-05) Gussief1: Current update does not work proper will pay 5$ if you fix it!
  • (2025-01-05) Varch18 (Varch18): fix it to the old system it worked fine before now all the videos in full screen i lose half of what i am viewing
  • (2025-01-03) Stephen Johnston: A lot of work has gone into this re-write. Works perfectly in Plex, but does not work in Netflix. When tyring to watch things in Netflix, it automatically jumps down to the bottom right hand side of the screen. This is a brilliant extension and the developer has put a massive amount of time and effort into it. Respect to the developer would be appreciated. EDIT: Found a temp fix for Netflix. To get it to display the video properly, go to video settings, then hit reset. It then displays the video correctly in full screen mode.
  • (2025-01-03) Mr Doo: Still works, but now i have to mannually set each video i see rather than letting default settings do the job, set default just dont work at all. Dont see why change the way it works by now, if it aint broke, dont fix it, or in this case, break it.
  • (2025-01-03) NOBLE 500000: This new update is sleek and all, but the extension does not automaitcally do a "basic stretch" anymore. Even though I have the default site (youtube) and player settings set to basic stretch and to always persist. I am not going to manually stretch every single video. This feature worked just fine before this useless update.
  • (2025-01-02) Adz: Update f*****d up all types of s**t lmao. 5 stars when issues are fixed or update is rolled back
  • (2025-01-02) Florian Geisenberger: roll back the update, its dogshit! why does it crop out non black areas now and how do i disable that???
  • (2025-01-02) Mangolatte: What happened the current update broke everything Before it was 5 stars now i'll give 2 stars for now
  • (2025-01-02) Evan DeIacova: Please roll back the last update. Nothing works anymore. I cant just hit Z and zoom in anymore on these widescreen youtube video's. Even the zoom and crop features don't work.
  • (2025-01-01) AJ Behenna: No longer works on Crunchyroll. Wish I could block updates as 6.0.0.1 worked fine until update.
  • (2025-01-01) newton atandi: The current update has broken the extension, especially on Netflix. Kindly check on that.

  • (2024-06-17) Jerry Foster: How did you not realize the hover menu is so intrusive and distracting! I bump my mouse and *bam* there it is, right on top of the video constantly. Will be turning off until it gets changed.
  • (2024-06-16) Kamรธ: Edit: No more pop-up, Works perfectly again
  • (2024-06-15) Jon Phey: Please remove the "Aspect Ratio Controls - Hover to activate". It was fine before. EDIT: this was rolled back. Thank you
  • (2024-06-15) Jamie Milliken: The hover menu is showing up on several websites that have embedded video content. It's obtrusive.
  • (2024-06-14) John San Juan (Juan): The new hover menu is obstructive and annoying. Will uninstall for now
  • (2024-06-13) DarkSoul3092: it is a great extension it did work until they updated it recently and when ever i tell the settings for youtube to persist all the time the settings never save and they just reset so every time i watch another video i have to redo the settings i just applied all they had to do was not touch anything because it was working perfectly fine
  • (2024-06-13) jackhsu 87: It was an awesome app before then it decides to add "Aspect Ratio Controls" I think they removed it, not seeing that today. I am willing to giving back their rightful 5 stars.
