  • (2023-11-17) Amanda Burma: Many times the extension struggles to load and must be clicked and left multiple times or it sits and spins. Previous versions as others mentioned did work better, and I too am missing the search feature. Another feature that would be helpful would be a quick click to open freshbooks in a new tab. Due to the loss of search feature and the loading issue, I've given the extension a 3/5 stars. I'm a long time user (more than 8 years) of Freshbooks.
  • (2023-01-24) Ferran Contell: It's useless. You need to log in every time you want to use it and the login process takes even longer than logging in on the website. They also say it integrates with Trello, which is false. I wish I would have known all this before committing for a year.
  • (2022-06-22) Michael Amico: The newest version does not allow searching of clients or projects. Seems like a bug as a search bar is provided but does not work. Previous versions have worked. This problem has been present for months. I've been a customer since 2012.
  • (2022-05-19) Angelo Cushman: Was great, but this new version is not great. It takes longer to setup a time tracker cause the project is tree'd to the client as opposed to being a separate drop down and there is no search/filter feature. The extension does not work reliably, it sometimes does not load or loads really really slow. Also it is a far less attractive, the design is not cohesive with the website, feels under designed. Overall just frustrating to use. I do like the add to retainer button. Why do I have to relog-in constantly, given I use secure passwords that no one can remember it is a total pain and it doesn't allow for LastPAss prompting, just a big pain. Has me looking elsewhere for a better experience.
  • (2022-05-12) Andrew Rowland: The latest update has made what was already below average UX a horrible UX. Why would you add 2 additional clicks each time I want to use the Timer? Why does it now open collapsed in default state regardless of if a timer has already been started? Issues: 1. Even slower to load after initial click that it was. 2. Logs me out way too frequently, and initial click after being logged out, there is a full 20-30 seconds before the widget opens and is interactive. 3. I have never had logged time with “no project” before this change. Now it is quite frequent because the select box for Project now includes Client name as the first option for each. I never want to log to no project and can’t understand why this is even a “feature”
  • (2022-04-07) Chase Jennings: The last version was buggy, but it was at least still usable. The latest update (v3.1 as of Apr 7 2022) came with all of the same bugs, plus loads of new, even worse ones. The worst of which is having over half of all of my clients missing from the client selection field. With that being said, with v3.1, the chrome extension is officially completely unusable. I'm having to use the web dashboard instead for everything now. I'm also not a fan of how they merged the client & project field (on both the extension and the web dashboard). It gets super confusing when you have multiple clients with the same project name. And for some reason you can't search by project (although the field name seems to indicate you should be able to). As of now, you have to search for the client, then scroll all the way down to the project you want to track time for. This is a massive efficiency killer for anyone who needs to frequently track different projects throughout the day. Also, before it used to show you the project you were tracking time for when you clicked on the extension icon. Now it opens up a menu with "Start Timer, Log Time, Choose Business, Log Out" which is a bit frustrating and not intuitive. To view the project in progress, you have to click "Start Timer" which makes no sense in terms of UI. If you're a part of the UI/UX team at FreshBooks, please revert everything back to how it used to be and focus on improving the performance of it instead. It feels like you guys were forced to make some updates or something and rushed this one out the door without any adequate feedback from actual users. Also, PLEASE lower your fees for invoicing. It really doesn't make any sense to be making us pay those additional fees when using the Freshbooks Payments option when we're already paying for the subscription. I used to recommend Freshbooks to all of my freelancers, but with the almost predatory fees, copious amount of bugs, and poor UX/UI decisions, I now I find myself looking for alternative platforms to migrate over to.
  • (2022-04-06) Anne Allen: Why has the latest upgrade (Today April 6) REMOVED THE PROJECT select? Now I cannot track time to a project?
  • (2022-03-31) Doug Ridley: The timer UX is bad, really bad. When tracking time, you're not able to select from your full list of projects and can only select from your most recent. Our company has 100s of active projects, making the extension useless.
  • (2022-01-07) David Koh: The timer seems to create multiple entries in Freshbooks everytime I hit pause and play again even before pressing the Log Time button!
  • (2021-11-06) Scott Sayce: This extension is useless. It does nothing automaticaly, I might as well just enter all the info manually. Very disapointed.
  • (2021-09-13) Andrew Rowland: Very buggy, slow and very frustrating UX. I no longer recommend Freshbooks as a time-tracking tool. When it actually works it still stinks: > it is slow to load my project list and task lists. > It doesn't allow you to edit the value of the timer to adjust it to round to nearest minute OR add/remove time before submitting it to the log. Video of it not even working....https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/video/5209892?key=6053c093537c5637f9cbf25254c5f1f1
  • (2021-06-04) Steve Quinn: It is quite frustrating that FB treats time tracking as and afterthought when it is SUCH a critical part of most users workflow. In my work as a freelancer, time tracking is the PRIMARY use of the tool. I have up till now resisted migration to the new version because the new version is not compatible with the 3rd party time tracker I've been using for years. This extension is a buggy, unreliable, half baked afterthought that in spite of the unanimously poor reviews FB seems uninterested in improving.
  • (2021-05-21) Liz King: Freshbooks pushed us from Classic to the newer edition, but the timer feature is practically unusable. I uploaded this extension and was assured by Freshbooks Help that it was working well despite the poor reviews. In my usage today, it added the time from one client into some existing time I'd already logged for the day for another client. Also, I was having trouble changing the time in error (in Freshbooks itself). I was told this Chrome extension was their timer solution and Freshbooks wasn't considering changing the format to something like we had in the Classic version. Thing is, I could make the change if it was accurate and dependable like the old time, but it's clearly not. For the first time, I'm terribly disappointed in Freshbooks.
  • (2020-10-03) Carol Hunneyman: This is terrible. They are forcing us to go to the NEW FreshBooks by Nov 2020, and the timers are not up to par yet. I frequently PAUSE and do other things. Their on-page timer doesn't have a pause. So I got the Chrome extension and that's a mess. Very unstable. Very scary right now - I am not sure my BILLABLE time is recording properly and have to keep double checking it. PLEASE FIX ASAP!
  • (2020-04-08) Reece Hart: Almost works. Tantalizingly close to being useful. Like others, I routinely experience problems with this plugin, or at least the interaction of this plugin with the backend and the timer functionality that's built into the web app. Problems include: 1) lost logs, 2) grossly incorrect times, 3) duplicate entries from a single click. It's worth noting that I often keep the FB web page up. When I start a timer in the plugin, the timer in the web page starts automatically. They seem mostly in sync for time, but not for client, project, or notes. When I log the time in the plugin, the web page timer sometimes stops and sometimes doesn't, or doesn't immediately. All of this feels like a system that's confused about the shared state of the timer, which I can easily imagine leads to race conditions that sporadically all of the observed kinds issues. Suggestion: FreshBooks should either yank this plugin and tell people to use the web app timer, or, preferably, ask a FB engineer to actually use this timer for his/her own work for a week. I'm pretty sure they'll observe the misbehavior and be able to diagnose the causes.
  • (2020-01-24) Thomas D'Hoe: Hi, Does this integration also works for Freshbooks classic? Can't login in and yes, we are still on Freshbooks classic
  • (2019-03-26) Saro Marcarian: The extension is flakey. Sometimes I can get by if I log into Freshbooks and just make the entry there. Freshbooks isn't friendly or flexible (or smart?) about how it stores time. What if I want to see start and end times of day and not just elapsed times?
  • (2018-12-04) Jorrit Schippers: Downsides: I can't use the return key in the comments field and I can't edit the time before clicking log time. The dropdowns don't work properly, after one item is selected the other items are no longer visible.
  • (2018-11-27) Matt Riopelle: Routinely deletes notes and activity when I log the time. A week can pass before I'm back in Freshbooks reviewing my time. By then, I've forgotten what I worked on and there's no notes. :(
  • (2018-09-20) Amie Richardson: I just downloaded it, was excited to have a timer in Chrome finally after switching to the new Freshbooks. The timer won't start, it doesn't do anything. It appears I can log time, but can't track it. Will this be fixed soon?
  • (2018-08-17) Philip Johnson: I stopped using it first because of getting logged out which has been fixed (nice start). I'm on the latest and greatest chrome, have a very fast Macbook Pro with 16GB of RAM and it brings it to a crawl. Guessing as others have mentioned that there's a memory leak issue or something similar. Not usable in its current form until they plug that problem. Great space-shuttle launch emulator because that's what your machine will sound like if you use this.
  • (2018-08-16) Michael Raines: I use this extension a lot, but it's a non trivial amount of work to constantly log back in every time I want to use it. I see others are having the same issue. Would be nice to see them prioritize this fix soon. If you are considering using FreshBooks because this extension looks convenient, don't be fooled. It's annoying and this should have been fixed by now...
  • (2018-08-11) kinfoxx: It's alright.. a bit buggy but works for the most part. My biggest complaint is it seems to be a resource hog for some reason - memory leak maybe. My fans consistently blow with 80-90%CPU for 'Chrome helper' - a quick force quit of the offending process shows this extension is (always) the culprit. 2015 MBP with an i7 and 16gb DDR3 btw guys.. so -_-
  • (2018-07-27) Jeremy Eastburn: UPDATE on 7/27/18: Freshbooks claimed that the logout issue was fixed in the latest version but apparently not. It worked fine for the first day, but the next day I went to use the add-on it took me to the login screen even though they claim it should keep me logged in until I logout manually. I stopped using the extension after getting logged out too often. It's easier to just fire up the web site since my username and password are autofilled, whereas the extension requires me to login almost every time and it doesn't autofill username and password fields.
  • (2018-07-24) Margaret Bennett: It worked well initially, but now it doesn't open the actual time tracking interface. All I can do is manually add time. Back to using the timer from inside the website. Disappointed - this was such a useful idea!
  • (2018-06-09) Gabrielle Werve: Initially, the extension worked pretty well but lately it has gotten less and less efficient. Rarely does the extension successfully log my time so I end up opening the site, logging in, and then logging my time there. This obviously renders the extension obsolete. Hoping they fix this soon!
  • (2018-06-05) yasin yaqoobi: Can't log in. Keeps saying that I have to confirm my email but my email is already confirmed and I have been using it with freshbooks for the past three years. Also no new confirmation email was sent.
  • (2018-05-24) Sean Perkins: Having to log in every day to use it sucks but I really do like the convenience of having the timer everywhere I go online.
  • (2018-05-12) Mason Schmitt: This extension is so broken. I can login and start a timer, but the timer doesn't display if I click on the toolboar icon for this extension. I have to go into the Freshbooks web interface to view the timer, select the customer, etc. As well, if I try to view the extension's options, my entire browser window is resized down to a very small window and there is just a message saying, "Settings will be soon..." I don't see the sense in publishing a chrome extension before it's actually useful...
  • (2018-04-24) Michael Szmadzinski: I can't log any time at all and I couldn't login with google which is my preferred method. It could be helpful but pining freshbooks to my browser is just as easy. Still five starts to freshbooks just not this extension.
  • (2018-04-21) Harrison Thomas: Doesn't seem to work. I logged in, click start timer, and it just closes the dialog box. I click on the extension icon again and it says "start timer" still. I would expect it to say stop timer at least. But when I start a time, I want to say which client I'm tracking work for, what project/task, etc. The log time function seems to be working fine. But yeah. I wish new freshbooks could work with toggl. Toggl's chrome extension is AMAZING. It includes built in pomodoro timer. Which is huge for productivity freaks like me. To the dev team in charge of working on this: fix that bug with start timer, let the user say what task and client they're working on/for, and you've earned my 5 stars. I'll use the extension everyday. Bonus points if you can support built in pomodoro timer as well. <3
  • (2018-03-14) Joshua Turmel: It's supposed to be convenient however you have to log in every day so it's more frustrating than anything. I'm already logged into Freshbook's site so I'll just continue to use that instead.
  • (2018-03-14) Barney Wimbush: Intrusively keeps popping up, constantly has a window at the bottom, doesn't really work in sync that well if you have freshbooks open in a browser tab. I didn't want freshbooks showing on screen share and there was no way to really remove. Also the plugin kept logging me out. Quicker to use the website to which I'm already logged in. It's good that this exists and it's a great start but it needs a round of improvements.
  • (2018-03-08) Amie Richardson: Not working. I generally log in via Google, but I can log in without it. However the site seems to want to log me into: https://my.freshbooks.com/#/login and it also doesn't take my credentials. (blue favicon) If I log in from main site, it tells me to check my credentials and sends me an email. Oh well, sure would have been nice to have this feature.
  • (2018-01-06) Josh Conner: Logging in each time isn't practical. Uninstalled and went back to web page.
  • (2017-12-18) Pete Fife: I did have the same issue as Trevor, but then I opened a case with FB, which of course in doing just that action it started working... I was able to login. However, you have to login to the extension every time. It's quicker for me to just log into the websit with LastPass than go through the login flow with the extension each time.
  • (2017-12-12) Trevor Robertson: UPDATE -- Review changed because key bug was fixed. Overall this is good start and a great way to track your time for Freshbooks. Definitely still needs more features and functionality, but for any Freshbooks user I would say this is a must have tool already.
  • (2017-12-07) Micah Fegley: I can't log in. I keep getting an alert that my email or password are incorrect. I log into Freshbooks daily with the same credentials so I know I've typed them properly... Frustrating so I'll just skip the extension.
  • (2017-12-04) Arthur Wiebe: If you don't minimize the tracking widget it interferes with web sites. So you can't have the widget open on a 2nd screen or something like that. Otherwise I like it.
