Convert japanese text (kanji, kana) to latin (roumaji)
Furigana (振り仮名) is chrome extension that convert kanji (japanese text) to furigana, that is a japanese text with small hints above each word how to pronounce it. For known words it also displays english meaning of the word. It uses my own dictionary-based kanji tokenizer. Data are from EDICT dictionary plus my own data.
Unlike similar extensions (e.g. IPA Furigana), this one converts all kanji, not just the hard ones. It also converts hiragana and katakana.
For example:
Original: 時速５０１キロ体験！リニアモーターカー車内映像 ！
Furigana: jisoku 501 kiro taiken! rinia mootaakaa shanai eizou!
IPA Furigana: jisoku ５０１キロ taiken ！リニアモーターカーshanai eizou!
How to use it?
Select text you want to translate. Right-click to display context menu and choose "Furigana" with yellow icon. This will translate selected text.
Because sometimes it hard to select entire sentence, especially around the edges, when you select the middle of sentence, entire block of text will be translated.
You can also translate text in popup window (click on yellow icon in upper right corner, type text and press button "Furigana").
You can add new words to dictionary and publish it for others.

Very helpful! thank you I didn't read the intrunction carefully but only see the overview pictures. Took a few minutes for me to figure that i had to right click to call context menu, then click on the 'furigana' button to have the actual translation shown on page. works for me now
Changing default Output in the extension setting from furigana to hiragana will help you learn better.
Uh ... How do I import a dictionary? Every JSON file I tried keeps saying "unexpected token"!
The person above said that he hopes that Hiragana can be displayed on the Chinese characters instead of Romaji, and a button for independent selection can be set.

The app offers you the option to show furigana or hiragana over the kanjis, or even replace the kanjis by hiragana at all. All you have to do is selecting the beginning of the line you want to convert, open the right-click menu and click on the app option. The entire line will be changed the way you've chosen. Also, in this mode, when you hover over the word, a translation (English) of the word appears. The only bad side is that all the process may be a little tiresome, as it's a very manual process. Anyway, it's the best extension of the kind I've found so far.

It`s a really bad app. There`s no meaning using romaji as furigana, if you cant read hiragana you don`t know japanese. Furigana is to show kanji readings, not hiragana. Also, You have to copy the text to the app window. Why the hell?

Would be perfect for what I need it but the patreon reminder is a bit too annoying imo. I don't mind a reminder in itself but laying it on top of the results is a bit too much. No need to remove it, just place it below the results or at least make it half transparent, that's all I'd ask for but having to hide it every single time just to see the results really is annoying.

Would be a great extension if it displayed hiragana above the kanji. Romaji isn't ideal. Very disappointing.

Furigana should have hiragana above the kanji, not romaji.

Has many options and would be a great extension, but there seems to be zero support for kana of either kind -- everything is in roumaji. To the developer, you do not need to know how to read hiragana to add support for it! All you need to do is to look at a table of hiragana while you write the code.

It works and converts to roumaji, but not like the Screenshots show its features. Its just a Convert-Popup not a fulltext transcription
