Image from store SimpleTabOrder
Description from store Simple series number 5! This time its a simple tab order customizer. Features include: - change the placement of new tabs - change the tab to focus on when the active tab closes - event page enabled, only loads when needed Updated changelog is in the extension option pages. -------- Note: Though the extension still in an early stage so there may still be bugs I've missed. Please do feedback when something is not working, better if there are steps to replicate the problem. Thanks :)

  • (2025-07-14) Josh Smift: I love this extension so much, but Chrome has disabled it, saying "This extension is no longer available because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions." Does anyone know an alternative, or whether the developer might be interested in fixing whatever Chrome thinks is wrong with it?
  • (2025-02-07) Umbra TuSlayer: Mostly works as intended with Brave. But oddly the "open in background" with "position far right end of all tabs" can be laggy and it switches to the new tab before reverting to the current ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • (2023-09-15) Leland Whitlock: It does what it is supposed to do during a current session. But as soon as the browser restarts the tabs get set in reverse order except if you say had the active tab in the middle then only the tabs on the right of that active tab get reversed. It would be nice if it could be fixed because when it works it is great. Finally, after writing this review, I found a replacement in Tab Position Customizer - Modified. It does everything right with no issues this far.

  • (2021-08-09) Lloyd Dunamis: Works as intended, sortof. Definitely lacks other New Tab positioning options (i.e. leave the behaviour of "totally new tab via CTRL+T and pressing of "+" icon in the tab bar" untouched), and has no workaround for breaking Tab groups when relaunching at least Chrome v91.

  • (2021-07-31) Arpad Orfi: Activating wrong tab if the closed tab was moved beforehand. After closing a tab, not always the correct tab is activated. If I move a tab to another position, this seems to make the extension not working correctly. If you move a tab manually, then the extension doesn't work at all, at least if it is set to open new tabs to the right and activate tab to the left when closing. Opening a new tab opens at the original position from where you have moved your tab, and closing the tab activates the tab that WAS left BEFORE you have moved your tab manually. Maybe to code could be modified to execute an invisibly quick CTRL+PgUp, CTRL+PgDn keypress sequence to change the position of the tab back and forth, ensuring that the extension is well aware of the position of the active tab in relation to other tabs even in case the tab was moved manually.

  • (2021-07-14) Raiden Roy: Pretty much does what it advertises. The only reason I'm giving it a 4-star rating is that I tend to change the tab order behavior often so I think instead of opening the setting page it would be convenient to just add all the settings in a popup. so whenever I have to change the tab order. I need to just click the extension badge and voila I can instantly change the tab order behavior without even opening the setting page. it would be a time-saving feature please I request you to add this feature. P.S. Thank you for making & maintaining it.

  • (2021-06-06) Vick Rollins: Feedback a BUG. For example, when you close Chrome, some tabs are not closed. Every time you start Chrome, all the tabs that are not closed will be affected by the position of the plug-in when the TAB is opened. The position of the TAB will change and reverse.

  • (2021-05-31) Hung Vu: I use it to open tabs right next to the current tab, and it works great for me on both MacOS and Windows/Linux. Initially, it didn't work if I immediately open a new tab after closing a tab. After I close a tab, chrome switches to another tab, and the extension doesn't seem to know about the recently-switched-to tab so it opens new tabs at the far right. This can be fixed by setting the 'After tab close' position as 'go to last active tab' instead of 'default'.

  • (2021-05-28) T W: After today's update (2021-05-27), it has a problem with sorting tabs and grouping tabs - it spreads them randomly and ungroups groups each time chrome is launched. Before this update this extension was great. At the moment I have to uninstall.
