Prevents from opening new tabs.

Description from store
This extension is for anyone, who uses websites with pop-up ads (ads that open in a new tab).
red icon -> TabBlock prevents opening any new tab.
green icon -> TabBlock allows opening new tabs freely.
Note! Redirections to ads in the same tab still work! You can try to block them by using other extensions or simply return with "back" button.
TabBlock does not block any normal ads.
Manifest v3 Update: The new approach in Manifest v3 prevents extensions from running in the background all the time, leading to a cold start that can significantly increase the time needed to close a new tab. However, this is purely a cosmetic downgrade - TabBlock now filters out all requests to new tabs instantly, in addition to its ability to close tabs.
This means that even if you see a tab open, it won’t begin to load at all.

- (2025-06-24) Eric Hsu: I think this is fantastic of an extension, i think the only improvement i can think of is if this can have an option of enabling on specific sites like www.domainname.com/* that way you can still open new empty tabs yourself.
- (2025-06-19) Cameron Salazar (Darkerowl): Yep if your on sites that open a add when you even look at your screen, this thing will take care of that easy, Chrome doesn't stop these sites from opening tabs forced. This extension will, it will stop the forced ad sites from loading by closing them so fast they won't have time to lead at all so no hassle, and no issue from b-ad sites. This isnt a Anti-virus, this isnt a Adblocker, but it is a Tab blocker and a sanity saver! It's also super easy to turn on and off. Must have!
- (2025-05-31) James: Works perfectly as intended
- (2025-05-23) Jonas Zerox: Works like a freaking charm, only complaint I have is that the icon color can be confusing, you think it's enabled by default as it is green, indicating ON except it's not, you have to click the green to actually turn it on (then it becomes red). It's either the opposite color or current color, every developer does it differently. +++++ 5/5
- (2025-05-22) En Baha: so good i hope its can be active based on active tab/ url ! if u uppdate that features its definitely perfect 5star
- (2025-05-15) gummy: Works just fine, better than new-tab blocker. Thanks for not disappointing me like they did. Make sure to turn it on! It'll be red if its off, green if its on. Just click it on your extensions tab.
- (2025-05-14) The Wayward Son: The dumb me didn't realize that you have to activate and deactivate the extension. It's a good extension, and does what it needs to do.
- (2025-05-13) Toximisity: Does what it says on the tin, but atleast on mobile when reopening kiwi browser with it active it will kill all of your open tabs, needs some work to not just delete your stash of tabs
- (2025-05-11) jam: This app kill any new tabs.. which other tab blocker missed.. everyone should download it
- (2025-05-10) Tom T.: Hate those sites that randomly open tabs with viruses on then for no reason . This extension is a life saver.
- (2025-04-21) al as: Doesn't work
- (2025-03-04) S. G.: since google now blocks this. any alternative or work around?
- (2025-03-01) LnDxLeo: Works perfectly! Manga websites open new tabs with ads? Not anymore! Compulsive searching? Social media addiction? Solved!
- (2025-01-07) Tyler thorstensen: works as intended, but will stop anything new from opening when turned on, including new windows and apps completely unrelated to chrome. this means that if you close chrome with it turned on, you can't open chrome to turn it off. the only reason I was able to uninstall was because I was still able to open an incognito tab, log into my Google account, open the chrome web store, and uninstall it from there. if that hadn't worked, I would've had to do a factory reset through keyboard shortcuts. it works as intended when you remember to turn it on, but there is no easy way to turn it off if you close chrome completely because you won't be able to open it back up with it on, so I say it's not worth the risk as this is a major flaw in it's design.
- (2024-12-15) Jeremy Dezso: Doesn't work. Tabs still open.
- (2024-12-06) Gervia Allison: It's the best product on the market that exactly works.
- (2024-10-28) Splitz Erro: WORKS GREAT
- (2024-10-07) Muwang Li: Good sad it wont work soon
- (2024-10-03) Johnathan Reyes (Jreyes4127): Works great, sad that it may soon no longer be supported
- (2024-08-31) Google User: Works great once you know how to use it. Better enjoy it for the next 4 months. It will be removed from the Store because developer abandoned the extension years ago and MV3 is now the new norm.
- (2024-08-31) P B: If you are using your pc to watch football/sports livestreams, don't bother installing it. It DOESN'T work!!! None of them does anymore.
- (2024-08-24) Rhino VR: This is great, just remember to turn it off and on though
- (2024-08-18) Stan WiFiLine: With this extension enabled, the standard command for opening new tab (ctrl+T, or '+' sign in the tabs bar) stops working. This is unacceptable.
- (2024-08-09) André: This extension is nearly perfect, it does what it says it does. There's a major caveat though. it doesn't work on a per-website basis, instead it stops tab creation in every single tab not just the problematic website. Please make this website-dependent... it would be way better.
- (2024-07-28) Gavo 1002: epic
- (2024-07-05) Mahesh Bandara Wijerathna: Does exactly what I need. Perfect extension.
- (2024-06-09) Michael Hollings: Very nice. I wish it had a way to set certain websites to not open new tabs. Instead of blocking any and all tabs.
- (2024-04-05) leo: its good but remember to turn it off before you close out of your browser, but in case you forget, open task manager then type in chrome and hit end task
- (2024-03-18) hell's peace: was searching for an addon like this for ages! Install and works perfectly fine - nice to block all than annoying stuff on streaming pages.
- (2024-02-15) Matteo Inveraldi: It works very well. Blocks those annoying tabs from opening. Maybe it works too well. Remember to shut it off before closing chrome or you won't be able to open other tabs for that session. Had to reboot the pc. Maybe add an option to shut it off automatically when closing chrome? Seems pretty easy
- (2024-02-04) Albi Goxhaj: Great work.
- (2024-02-01) Mike Hutchins: It no longer stays enabled when you close the browser. You have to enable it every time you open Chrome. I start Chrome in kiosk mode with no keyboard so there is no way to enable it every time. Not sure if TabBlock or Chrome changed.
- (2024-01-26) Marco Canelas: Great, just what I was looking for.
- (2024-01-24) Michael Harvey-Thompson: why is the on off just not apparent its clicking the extension btw yea you go click it then its just on no indication of that tho or anyone saying it why idk. but you go back click again and its off thats really dumb but ok it works thanks for at least that. also there is no red green anything in the opera browser so that bit of info is pretty much useless
- (2024-01-21) William Laurent: Beautiful extension <3 For someone who hates watching... *definitely legal* movies and shows because of all the annoying tab ads, this is amazing. Big thank you!
- (2024-01-09) Danae Coleman: A BIG THANK YOU!
- (2024-01-01) Mohammed Ziya: Its amazing! even though it doesn't allow me to open tabs until the extension is disabled, It's doing it's job. Its just that you have to turn the extention off before opening a new tab.
- (2023-12-29) ROG: This works really well! There are a couple things to note. For starters when enabled this extension blocks ALL new tabs from being opened even if you the user want to open one. Therefore, it is highly recommended to only enable it when you are on a website that invokes a lot of new tab ads. For me its where I watch sports streams. When it is enabled it does in fact block the new tab ads for all of the websites that I use it on. Would be 5 stars easy if it could learn the difference between a new tab that wants to be opened by the user and a pop-up new tab ad.
- (2023-12-25) Matt Rice: Literally doesn't work. Popup tabs galore. Don't even bother with this extension.
- (2023-12-05) syahrul 567: after 5 minutes it worked well, i hope this continues until the worlds end. thanks
- (2023-11-23) rui rui: works perfectly as intended. contrary to some peoples reviews, to disable the feature, just click on the extension to disable/enable it
- (2023-11-18) Р К: this solved my problem, thx a lot!!
- (2023-09-24) Kristen Thorsten: It works very well! Very easy to use! Also, if anyone is in the comments trying to figure out how it works, you click the extension and if it is red it means it is enabled, and if it is green it means it is disabled. It is a little confusing that way, but if it works it works.

- (2023-09-18) Paul Breton: It works too well. I use it to prevent ad-heavy sites from opening spammy links in new tabs, but it prevents you from manually opening them too, and even from switching to a user profile with the extension in use. 5 stars if the dev can find a way to allow opening new tabs when the user initiates it.

- (2023-08-19) Nicholas Jackson: It works, but as another reviewer put it: It works TOO WELL. There should be an option to only turn it on for certain sites, or only turn it off for certain sites, and not destroy tabs when closing Chrome. This even blocks INTENTIONAL new tabs (press ctrl+t, click new tab button, middle-click link to open in a new tab) and having to toggle the block every time I want a new tab is annoying.
