Search by Image
A powerful reverse image search tool, with support for various search engines, such as Google, Bing, Yandex, Baidu and TinEye.
Search by Image is a browser extension that makes effortless reverse image searches possible, and comes with support for more than 30 search engines.
Search by Image is an open source project made possible thanks to a community of awesome supporters. If you'd like to support the continued development of the extension, please check out https://armin.dev/go/patreon
The extension helps journalists and researchers verify the authenticity of images, and assists in the identification of false information on social media. Search by Image is also popular among photographers, helping artists explore how their work is shared on the web, while shoppers find it valuable for discovering similar products at discounted prices.
The extension enables you to search for images from the context menu and the browser toolbar with the help of a diverse set of reverse image search engines, which can be toggled and reordered from the extension's options. Visit the wiki for the full list of supported search engines.

Images positioned at the selected area are detected regardless of how they were embedded in the page. The extension also supports searching with images from your device, images from private sites, and captured areas of the page.
A handful of search modes are offered that serve different use cases. The search mode can be set independently for the context menu and the browser toolbar from the extension's options.
Search modes:
• Select URL: select an image on the page and search with the image URL. This is the default search mode.
• Select image: select an image on the page and search with the image file. This search mode is preferred for sites which do not allow the direct linking of images, such as private sites.
• Capture: search with a captured area of the page.
• Browse: search with an image from your device. Pasting images from the clipboard is also supported.
• URL: search with an image URL.
The "Allow access to file URLs" option must be enabled to search with local images opened in a tab. Visit the chrome://extensions page and open the extension's details to find the option.
The image you select during a search is sent to the requested service, visit the extension's privacy policy for more information.
The extension is also available for Edge and Safari: https://github.com/dessant/search-by-image#readme

Can't imagine using the internet without this. Gone are the days of being on reddit, ig or some obscure website and hoping someone commented the source, sauce or @ for whatever is in the post or on the page. Just right click and reverse search it and never be defeated by your curiosity again. Not to take the credit away from the actual search engines, but this extension just streamlines the process and takes screenshotting and pasting out of the equation. This is such an essential feature I'm surprised browsers haven't caught on and started including it in their context menus. 10/10 fasho. Goated dev.
good
Why doesnt it work on Linux Edge?!?!?!
Very good.
doesn't work, it just opens google.
The Yandex image search rarely functions. if possible please fix it.
very usefull
Been using this for years. Not sure why some people are having problems but it still works fine for me.
it just disappeared randomly for me one day. i reinstalled to chrome and now my most important feature doesn't work. If i drag a picture from pc into a new tab, there's no way to search with that anymore. It used to work fine, now only works on webpages. Please fix.
Google reverse image search doesn't work any more.
Developer pitched a whiny fit and intentionally broke a feature because he didn't like his reviews. https://github.com/dessant/search-by-image/issues/353#issuecomment-2727467182
Yandex stopped working. Google lens is worse and I undertand the dev doesn't want to bring back the previous version that worked with the classic google image search, but maybe reconsidering this stance would be nice and everybody could be happy. A great extension and I'll change the rating when Yandex comes back!
Doesn't work anymore, dev is being a dick and purposely keeping it hostage like that until people give him better reviews, so I'm uninstalling and review bombing instead as is deserved.
Only extension that works. It takes a few minutes for google image to load
https://github.com/dessant/search-by-image/issues/353#issuecomment-2727467182 If you are using this service to replace google lens, I recommend finding an alternative. Users were unhappy that the feature was temporarily unavailable; The developer response was to remove the feature entirely out of spite due to the bad reviews. The developer also claims that the feature may return IF the chrome web store rating improves. This negative review is not because "google search no longer works," rather I am leaving a negative review because I feel as if the developer is attempting to hold my convenience "hostage" in order to get a higher rating on the Chrome Web Store. I would rather drop this extension entirely.
Great App. Thanks for the hard work.
facecheck.id add please
実際に使用できるのは上位4つの検索エンジンのみで、他の検索エンジンは機能しません。 チェックを外して非表示にします。 今は「Image Searcher」を入れたので「Lenso.ai」のみ使用してます。 Only the top four search engines are actually available, the others will not work. Uncheck them to hide them. It may not be displayed when Google Chrome is updated, so you have to "Delete from Chrome" and "Add to Chrome" each time. I've now installed "Image Searcher" and am only using "Lenso.ai".
This is a life saver, hopefully it comes back
Works PERFECT for me despite all the recent reviews saying it's broken now
Extension is still perfectly useful. Just wish there was a way to disable lens. 👍 I believe the review bombing over an issue that has nothing to do with the developer is unjustified. Chrome is the only one at fault for pushing a feature that is fully disliked by the majority of the consumers.
google image disappeared... i dont want google lens plzzzz
Very helpful
Great - until a few weeks ago. After a recent Chrome update, continually redirects to Google Lens rather than Google Images. That, effectively, makes this extension useless for my purposes. Three stars because it was great.
No longer works with the old legacy reverse google image search... please fix it
Thank you, it works well, I find images with a better resolution thanks to this extension.
No longer works with the old legacy reverse google image search. Google seemed to fully disable the legacy search for a while, but supposedly it's working again. According to the extension's github, however, the extension dev has apparently chosen not to support the legacy search option anymore on the chrome web store version. Legacy reverse image search was the only reason I was using this extension (google lens is that awful), so I guess I probably won't be using it anymore. Maybe I'll pick it back up again on whatever firefox fork i pick when I dump chromium after vivaldi adopts manifest v3. 🤷
It no longer works! When you search by image, only the Google Image site shows up now.
This used to work amazingly now it doesn't. Please update google image search I hate lens more than anything.
Google lmages is available, please update it soon
A fantastic stand-in for Chrome's removed "Search by Image" feature.
One of the best extensions ever. Can't imagine any browser without it. Please bring back Google Images search. Looks like it works now.
Extension removed old google image search but it is still exists in google.
been my go to for years, but sadly its now dead because of dead. THANKS GOOGLE!
Even though Google completely killed an incredibly useful service, dessant's extension was amazing as long as it lasted. Just remember, entropy always increases and rust never sleeps. Thanks for years of great service!
I've been using this for a very long time for reverse image search for specific high resolution images for my work and collections. It has served me so well and is an absolutely wonderful tool. I was so disappointed to discover that I can no longer search google images, but read through a thread with the developer and have learned this is sadly a google issue as google have retired this fantastic feature in order to push their horrible lens feature. There is sadly nothing the developer can do about it. I will continue to use this marvellous tool to search other engines - I've just discovered yandex is useful. Shame on google, who seem to be greedier by the minute. But thank you so much to the brilliant developers of this great tool which I would really be bereft without
2025 - Google Images search does not work as it used to. Five stars because it used to work for years, but this is likely Google's fault.
Перестал работать поиск через гугл-картинки. Печаль :(
As of now, Google Images (Not Google Lens) does not work. Every other engine works just fine, no idea what other people are experiencing.
While this extension is no longer working because of Google forcing Google Lens, it was of spectacular use for the time that I used it. It was very helpful for my daily work. I will keep it in the hopes that it will work once again. A huge thank you to the developers for making it available for so long.
2/12/2025 - not working anymore. rating 5 stars because i know its not the extensions fault.
Worked amazingly and gave me an extra 7 months with Google Reverse Image Search, but alas, it seems that that workaround has come to an end (through no fault of Search by Image; because of Google). ✌️.
Not working anymore
it was amazing. but not working anymore. I will change rate as soon as it fixed
2025.2.11 doesn't work anymore 💔
I've been using this extension for years to be able to bypass Google Lens search and have the old Google image search function. Seems like those days are over. Just did a new OS install and the new version of this extension now reverts to the current Google Lens search. You no longer have the option of seeing all similar images by size like you used to. "Lens" is completely useless to the user but set up to make Google more money by referring people to online stores to purchase things in the searched image. So if you're trying to search an image to find a higher resolution version of it, you're SOL. Just more proof Google doesn't care about making a good product or it's user's experience. Same applies to the Firefox version of this extension. Seems like Google is forcing them to use the "Lens" search just like it does for other software developers.
If only this could use Google Images and not that stupid Google Lens
Simple and effective; thank you developers!
Works great, every since google removed their people search I've been looking for a replacement.
(https://yandex.com/images/) Taiwan IP cannot be used (https://yandex.ru/images/) Hope it can be replaced
