Description from extension meta

Identify Modern legal MTG cards by clicking on their text box.

Image from store Ocular Automaton
Description from store Ocular Automaton lets viewers automatically recognize and identify cards in paper or online MTG coverage. To use the extension click on the extension icon or press Alt+A. Then simply click anywhere inside the text box of the card you want to identify. Ocular Automaton currently supports cards from all Modern legal sets (Mirrodin to Amonkhet) with the exception of 8th Edition. All masterpieces are supported and tokens from some sets are supported. Basic lands from any set are not supported. Ocular Automaton works by taking a screenshot of your current active tab in Chrome. It performs some processing and analysis of the screenshot in order to isolate the card you want to identify. A cropped image of the card is created based on this analysis and a perceptual image hash is made for it. This hash is compared to a hash of every other Modern legal card to find the closest match. • (2017-02-25) Steve Townsend: I would really like to be able to configure what sets it needs to search from, so since I am only interested in Standard, it will reduce the amount of cards it needs to search through and probably increase accuracy
  • (2017-01-14) Honze Mango: Extrmely versatile and useful tool.
  • (2017-01-13) William Ohm: While this app isn't perfect (yet), it does its job exceptionally well and way better than I expected. It's fast, it's accurate, and it works (which may be the most important thing about it).
  • (2017-01-12) Rin Shinonome: so coooooool
  • (2016-10-08) Marcin Struś: Very nice to use during streams where there is no on screen card display already in place. Still struggles with some cards but its good enough :)
  • (2016-10-07) Obsidienne Rock: Very simple and works perfectly, love it!
  • (2016-10-06) Sky Kalkman: It does exactly what it says it does. Simple to use. Just awesome.

Latest issues

  • (2017-04-20, v:1.5.1) William Ohm: Plunge Into Darkness
Every card shows up as Plunge Into Darkness now. Context: watching Seth PBKA SaffronOlive on YouTube and was trying to read a land (non-basic). Also tested on other MTG sites.
  • (2017-02-04, v:1.5.1) Chris Bradford: Show second guesses
It would be very helpful if there were some way to see the alternative guesses that the extension makes. For instance, it would be great if there was an option under the guessed card that said "Is this the card? Yes/No" and, when you select No, it gives you 2 or 3 alternative guesses for what the card is.
  • (2016-11-10, v:1.3.2) Dusan Rabrenovic: No longer displays card image
Recently it isn't displaying images anymore, only the card name (see screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/Mr3RkIm.png).
  • (2016-10-07, v:1.3.1) Chase C: Not working
This isn't working at all. I've tested on Twitch, YouTube, and Gatherer and it seems to just be pulling up cards at random. I've tried using the tool in multiple ways, but it never has pulled up a card correctly. I've even pulled up the card it incorrectly recognized on Gather and did it on there, and it still just pulled up at random no matter how many times or how many ways I did it.
