Advanced Profanity Filter helps to clean up bad language on the websites you and your family visit.
Whether you choose to censor, substitute, or hide offensive words, APF is here to improve your browsing experience. Individuals around the world can now be protected from profanity in their homes, organizations, and schools. APF has a variety of options to meet your personal needs.
APF is not limited to filtering text alone! With the use of captions and subtitles it can also mute audio while you sit back and relax to watch your favorite movies and shows from a collection of supported sites. Have a suggestion for a new supported site? Contact us!

- (2025-07-25) Kenz -: Nothing or no one can get me to leave a review unless I choose to do so. With that being said, I literally cannot function without this extension. 11/10! it works well & not just for profanity [I have filtered out everything that's political and racist...on all sides of the spectrum.] Honestly, thank you for this app & its service! P.S. for those leaving 1 star reviews - at least MESSAGE the creator before leaving a bad review. Surely your 'problem' is fixable. Jeez. & no, this review isn't sponsored or fake in anyway.
- (2025-06-26) Jean Tolman: I can tell you this - that it doesn't filter the "f" word when I watch a film on acorn.tv on my PC. (And I have tried all I can to make sure that I have the settings right so it should filter it.)
- (2025-06-24) Mary: Just beware that whatever words are removed in the profanity filter will be removed from every webpage you go to. I added God and Christ to my filter list to be removed because I don't like to hear their names used casually. I find they were removed from everything I was reading. At Christmas time the word Christmas would be missing. There might be two commas together and I could tell something had been removed or didn't make sense. I was turning the filter off (I have the chrome extension on top) for those pages, but it was too hard to keep up with. So now I remove the filter altogether and only when I'm about to watch something I think might have profanity do I enable it again.
- (2025-06-02) RotIn Peace: I use this add-on to clean lyrics in Genius, it's perfect at what it's doing.
- (2025-05-06) Inas: Not perfect but the best one I could find for YouTube. Using autogenerated captions means it only picks up on the swear halfway through them saying it, which in my opinion defeats the purpose. Captions the creator made themselves: for some reason the whole sentence gets muted, so a couple words before and after, which is distracting and annoying, as I have to look at the captions to understand what is being said
- (2025-02-19) MARCO SESRO: A really good estention especially if you use discord on the browser
- (2025-02-16) Jack: It's very great extension!
- (2025-02-02) Charis V: Works well!
- (2024-12-03) 3DVoid Gaming: Amazing, works so good and well it just works!
- (2024-11-22) Ana Hernandez: Thank you for the recent update , i wasn't muting on disney plus , but now it does now ,it even works on hulu . thank you Richard.
- (2024-11-21) flippa swelloza: I cant get substitutions to use uppercases correctly in the bulk editor. for example, when i try to replace a word for "OGs" it comes out as "Ogs". The way i found around this is to edit them one by one through "Words & Phrases". Just a little inconvenience, but otherwise its a great extension. Enjoying it for the past couple years, thank you (:
- (2024-11-05) Scott Campbell: Awesome extension AND support from the creator. Thanks!
- (2024-10-31) Jason Newton: So I was wondering what I am doing wrong? The YouTube video I played had 3 words of profanity and it didn't catch even one of them. Thanks for any help.
- (2024-10-19) Theoline Jordaan: Thank you so much, it filters offensive words really well. Can you please assist us in filtering phrases? We have added phrases to the words/phrases list, yet it is not being filtered. We are using the Chrome extension.
- (2024-10-15) Zach: I'm a kid so this is awesome!
- (2024-10-06) Shanita Derrick: This has been a really great tool for my family and I! I really appreciate you guys for putting it together! However, could you better explain how to add custom sites? In particular, I was trying to add, "www.angel.com" on the list but couldn't figure it out. Could you guys help me with this? Thanks, God Bless!
- (2024-09-30) Natalie Norwood: It works on the captions, but I've been changing the settings for about an hour trying to figure out how to make it actually remove the audio, and nothing works.
- (2024-09-28) Lycole: Hoooray!!!!!!!!! This helps me so much in browsing I can't surf the web without it
- (2024-09-07) Minecraft heaven TGS: Really effective way to block words but some clear swear words aren't censored such as ret**ded + the option to add words to block doesn't work for me. It will also be cool if there's a way to block images with certain words
- (2024-08-31) Blissful690: Does not "bleep" swearing, which I'd rather prefer over muting. If anyone can link me to the extension that bleeps swearing, I would be grateful.
- (2024-08-17) Mark Amakasu: Absolutely the best extension I have ever downloaded! For kids and for adults!!!! I can't THANK YOU enough fo rdeveloping this!!!!
- (2024-07-22) mike north: I really like it. It has slick features that make it customizable. It's easy to set up, straightforward, and works really well, and on a lot of various websites, including "X" and YT comment section. I kept noticing how many people were suddenly using "fog" and "fogging" and at first didn't realize those were my replacements. I turned off the feature that put brackets around replaced words, and now I don't even think about was there, or notice it had been edited. I haven't noticed any browser lag since installing.
- (2024-07-21) Angela Gillespie: Advanced Profanity filter works perfectly, accept with Prime Video. Please add Prime Video to your list. And thank you for the good work.
- (2024-07-21) Jacob Kelly: Works how it is supposed to, even has a way to make customized filters.
- (2024-07-16) Nerd Nerdo: this is perfect i can now finally go live on youtube without having to see the hard r and other bad words you're a life saver
- (2024-07-15) Mark Klink: Thank you so much. This has really given me so much ore viewing options. I really appreciate this extension.
- (2024-07-02) Jordan Ellsworth: Best Chrome Extension Ever! Period. Works flawlessly. So well, in fact, that I forget it's there. My internet world is now censored in terms of language. If only we could create something like this for visual elements...🤔
- (2024-07-02) TOomuch1: It works like a charm, but I discovered this extension has a little conflict with 'uBlock Origin' If you let these two extensions be enabled at the same time, you won't be able to open multiple tabs on YouTube, and the page will load forever until you disable one of them. I'm hoping the next update will fix this issue.
- (2024-06-11) Austin Higgs: Have been using this for years. Highly recommend it if there are certain things you do not want to hear. Works perfectly fine on Netflix and Prime, where we use it the most.
- (2024-06-01) A. B.: This works surprisingly well. I am using this right now with Amazon prime, and as long as a show has subtitles on it catches all the profanities. If you add any words of your own to censor to it, you have to reload the video though for it to work. Overall great extension, super helpful.
- (2024-05-08) Dino Melon: Ok so I would've loved for this to work however I think youtube wont let you see bad word captions anymore so it messed it up but if it would've it would have been great!
- (2024-05-05) Steven Buechele: I haven't tried it for very long, and it's looking good for the text, but I'm watching a video with a guy speaking with a british accent and it's not filtering anything there. I assume that's more of a problem on the youtube side than here, seeing that it creates the captions. If there are any extensions to improve captions on youtube that would be a great benefit to know about.
- (2024-04-21) C Rosenfeld: I used work for me but for some reason its not wokring at all anymore, i have no idea why.
- (2024-02-22) Jacko Nieuwenhuize: We really love this extension, because it gives us more posibilities without all the bad language. It is especially nice that you can edit your own filter so it gives the possibility for all languages in the world. The support from Richard is very good, we needed a custom language/audio filter and he helped us really well. We really love it. Thank you

- (2024-01-30) Mustafa: Really useful, thanks! It just sometimes doesn't detect some words on a video but it's still awesome.
- (2024-01-23) Juliana Maria / Yumi Freya Russom (July-Chan): YAY
- (2024-01-13) Burak Dilşen: Would be perfect if Turkish characters can be supported. ğüşıöç ĞÜŞİÇ I tried a lot of regex and also exact and partial options, but cannot make the extension to filter certain words. Good work, though.
- (2024-01-10) Neels Coetzer: Was so impressed. Used this incredible extension for more than 2y BUT suddenly I cannot get the extension to toggle ON/OFF or change the settings from inside a tab on both Brave and Chrome. So sad. I really started to depend on this amazing tool.
- (2024-01-07) Luna Eur: Finally the well made, easy to use and perfectly working general word filter add-on of my dreams!
- (2024-01-06) John: Big fan, Thank You Very Much!
- (2024-01-02) Isaiah Farb: 5/22/2022 review was made obsolete because the bug is no longer there. 5/29/2023 edit: Once again, fantastic! It would be GREAT if I could choose APF to be off by default, and then only be on for sites of my choosing. That would be better than running into another important questionnaire, slightly affected by APF, that I can't page-refresh without consequences. 1/2/2024 edit: Still fantastic. I wish it was on Firefox.

- (2023-12-05) Hana Ellenoff: I cant get it to work i put in the settings and when I try to turn it on from the extension button the mouse doesnt even work it shows an x over it- it wont let me click anything on it it only seems to allow me to turn it on, on youtube and even then when i played a song with a swear word it didnt block it out Im pretty sure i put in all the settings right also is there a way for this extension to block swear words in spotify if so how do I do it?
- (2023-11-14) Peter Shields: I'm in the UK so Clearplay and VidAngel don't work effectively (even with a VPN). So this is the next best thing. In fact, in some ways it's even better because it will even filter live captioning on Youtube. Unlike Clearplay & VidAngel it does only filter language rather than visual content. But it does this extremely well and with a lot more versatility (oh, and for free!) Whilst it works fine "off the shelf", it works better if you take the time to fine-tune it to your personal preferences. The ability to filter universally across the whole internet and virtually every video platform is what makes it stand apart, and being able to set particular filters to specific websites makes it especially useful and effective. The developer was extremely helpful in answering queries. Me and my family are now able to enjoy a whole range of content that we'd previously banished for polluting our home and minds with wholly unncecssary profanity & blasphemy. I have been more than happy to reward the developer for this. [One amusing incident that I suspect will only make sense to any Brits: Whilst watching the Channel 4 sitcom "The IT Crowd" the filters we had set-up meant that one of the characters said she was going for "...a gay break" and came back "...stinking of gays"!!!! It took us a moment or two to realise what had happened. See if you can figure out what the original script was!]

- (2023-08-28) Tim Fevens: This works perfectly. I ran into a small issue with a particular website, it wasn't a problem with the extension, so I reached out to the developer and he quickly responded with a simple fix. I appreciate this extension as it allows me and my family to watch shows we wouldn't otherwise.
