• (2023-07-03) Donald Prescott: Using in Edge. Works well enough when needed - I think the icon next to the phone numbers is a bit large and distracting but it works fine. Bug? It seems that when you load Edge it activates regardless of the switch setting. I leave it disabled most of the time so it is noticeable to me. I see the handset icon next to phone numbers but the icon is displaying the red X. If I click it twice then the handset disappears next to the phone numbers.

But it also detects some invalid numbers like in postal addresses, if they are written in one line, just separated with a comma. It also detects the video position (eg. "00:00:00 / 01:00:00") while streaming on Disney+ as telephone number. Hint for other users: If you want to use this with the Microsoft Smartphone Link app, to dial clicked numbers with your smartphone, select the tel protocol and disable the "Insert '//' notation" option in the options of this add in.

• (2020-03-23) Thom McKiernan: I wanted something that would let numbers use Microsoft Teams. At first it didn't work, numbers were detected but clicking one did nothing. However, I went to the Chrome Extension options and changed the top Protocol Selection dropdown from "dial" to "tel". Then after refreshing the page, clicking a number opened up Teams asking "do you want to dial this number", so mission accomplished :)

• (2019-05-10) Nick Allen: Very nice. Seems to work well for me and intelligently recognises a load of different formats, with different spacing and spacing characters in our global directory. Also intelligently drops the (0) in a number like +44 (0) 20 9999 9999. Seems to change some HTML cell sizes fractionally but it's also super easy to enable and disable just by clicking on the toolbar icon. Very good work, thanks!
• (2019-03-29) Numbers have to follow exactly the one single format that is recognized by this Add on, or they won't be linkified. +49 123 456789 is detected, but it's not capable handling numbers with special characters as they are customary in Europe like +49 (0) 123 456789 and +49 123/456789. There's no "phone" or custom protocol to use with. The former Add on "telify" for Firefox did all this and worked like a charm. But since Mozilla changed the add on API many many extremely good and helpful add ons are gone without replacement.

Allerdings sind die "Nummern" nicht konfigurierbar, sodass auch mal die eine oder andere Zahlengruppe vergessen geht - gerade bei deutschen Direktwahlen. In einigen anderen Fällen genügten lange Zahlen (incl. Buchstaben) um die Erkennung anschlagen zu lassen. Nur mit der Zahlenlänge sind Telefonnummern nicht sinnvoll einzugrenzen. Da braucht's schon regular expressions o.ä.

I have a way to deploy the extension to all browsers but I haven't been able to locate the configuration data.   It is very common to see web pages that have the format of phone numbers is the xxx.yyy.zzzz format.   A useful extension. But on some sites (eg Business Banking) you can get so many false recognitions of numbers as phone numbers it makes the site difficult to use. Adding the option to list sites that you do not want the extension to operate on would make this extension useful without having to turn it off on such sites.

  The controls on detection patterns are very limited - only max and min length. Would it be possible to increase this capability by for example giving the ability to set a regex pattern to match. That way, for example from the UK, we could only recognise numbers starting with '0' or '+44'. This would significantly reduce false positives.

  I see it display the click to call button when opening a google sheet, but then it goes away. I use primarily Firefox but the issue is duplicated in Chrome. I'm on a Mac. I use spreadsheets as a lead follow up tool and it would be great if this would work inside a google sheet.
