Description from store What is IRIS? IRIS Invigilation (IRIS) is a software program that helps provide educators assurance of assessment integrity during online and remote assessment. It records audio, video, and computer screen activity for the duration of a test/exam. It analyses this information using machine learning and automatically flags potential academic dishonesty through displaying the data in an easy to use reporting dashboard. How does it work? IRIS records video of a student's face throughout their proctored exam tracking head and eye movement. It records the audio from the student computer’s microphone video from their webcam and takes successive screenshots of what the student is seeing on their computer screen. Facial markers are identified and tracked; categorising and distinguishing innocent behaviours from dishonest behaviours. Educators can then review this data at a time that is convenient to help ensure student identity verification and assessment integrity. Is it safe for students to share their data? IRIS Invigilation software is a safe, secure and necessary method of maintaining academic integrity at a university/institute. The proctoring/invigilation of online assessments is necessary when conducting online learning to ensure educational standards are maintained and to avoid academic dishonesty. Students that share their data are helping to protect the quality and reputation of their institution. The privacy and protection of students and their personal information is paramount. IRIS ensures that data security, protection laws, privacy legislation and regulation are their priority. IRIS uses AWS Cloud Security to protect data and host all data in Sydney, Australia. IRIS does not sell or use any student assessment data; only IRIS technical administrators have access to this for maintenance and security purposes. IRIS Security Infrastructure: • Two-factor authentication is enabled for the cloud services account that hosts IRIS • Strict firewall schemes protect all IRIS related services to protect user data and prevent nefarious access to the IRIS infrastructure • Only ports and services that need to communicate with each other and to the outside world will be kept open. These ports/services have strict IP security groups for inbound and outbound traffic • IRIS will never share or sell your personal data to a third party. • Google Chrome will ask your permission before installing the IRIS extension on your computer. • IRIS will only invigilate you during your exam. The permissions you agree to are only for the exam duration.

  • (2023-10-10) Etienne fdb: This is a bad extension. I have never started on time with this thing as it always has problems.
  • (2023-10-01) Wayne: Useless, pops up multiple windows both in tabs and that recording window, sometimes will say tracking is disabled and to see tabs but the tabs provide no action, just says do not close. It mostly does not upload when i was testing it using the mock test. Will stay stuck on the uploading screen, my internet bandwith is 450mbps down and 106mbps up. This is a horrible app to use, and I have a 3 hour paper and they want me to stare at the screen for 3 hours, feels like we have really dumbed down here.
  • (2023-08-31) CAB Church: This is a bad App. I started the exam late because of this App and still it did not record anything. How do I proof that I used IRIS during Exams. UNISA PLEASE BE SERIOUS.
  • (2023-08-30) Callum Archer: The only reason this review gets 1 star is because there's no option to give it 0. If we're being required to use this thing for a major part of our grades, it should at least function remotely as intended instead of crashing every time.
  • (2023-08-27) Thebe E: This extention is just bad ,very bad.
  • (2023-08-20) Sikulindzile Simelane: Doesn't open at all. When I test it on the iris website, it works. However when I go to the UNISA website, a popup does not appear at all. Useless. I tried everything, I give up

  • (2022-10-26) Lufuno Ramadwa: This thing kept on closing when i was starting my exam, I wonder why UNISA recommend it because it is giving us alot of issues
  • (2022-10-14) Ubayd Bassier: Absolutely horrendous software, so buggy, so laggy. Having to deal with the stress of a poorly created invigilation app during an exam is just terrible
  • (2022-10-14) Kayy Johnathan: This tool is the worst invigilator app ever. The face detection does not work property, it lags constantly and occasionally freezes. This is a chromium extension for goodness sakes... why does a chromium extension be so laggy and freeze constantly? I can bet a high school dropout can create a better invigilator app than Iris for chromium-based browsers. This is what happens when corporations don't read comments... they are lazy to improve their buggy software, let alone their inability to take criticism.
  • (2022-10-12) Abraham Mentoor: the face detection was disabled I dnt know why please help
  • (2022-10-12) Tiffany Steytler: ive been struggling for the past 2 years to write my UNISA exams with this IRIS Invigilators app. i have lost 2 years and been setback because this app works one day and the next day it just doesnt work. i couldt write my edam again today because the robot didnt pop up and someof the unsa consultants are so rue thry refuse to help
  • (2022-10-12) Bazi Mtsweni: This thing is very useless and not user-friendly at all.
  • (2022-09-12) Demetri Casotti: Not user friendly
  • (2022-06-30) Halellujah Madida: Its inconsistent and crashes most of the time.
  • (2022-06-08) Zandile Radebe: It is not user friendly. I downloaded the app and successfuly used it once after that everytime when writing tests, it is difficult to access it or to find it active. It is terrible!
  • (2022-02-24) Aafreen Foorooskar: Systems like these make me wish one could give a zero-star review.
  • (2021-11-25) Callum Campbell: terrible
  • (2021-11-19) Alan2022: Hope this doesn't become regular use for exams
  • (2021-11-15) Jodache Ramsamy: I see a lot of students writing complaints about the system, truly though this is the future for online exams! FOR ME the system has worked as it said it would, I use rain and get a steady speed of about 250kb to 500kb, which is sufficient to use the system, to upload my data at the end and it takes about 5 - 8 minutes and it closes automatically. Following the instruction that is given by UNISA is easy and makes this process simple, I recommend the system continues to be used and backed for the future of UNISA. Students that have problems with it being slow, have not followed guidelines of UNISA, data was given to students therefore the online servers should not be a problem. The only thing that needs to happen is UNISA needs a 24 hour support line that replies within minutes to help clueless students, because unfortunately students can't follow written instructions, it would also take pressure off lecturers trying to responds to related issues with exam tools. Time to invest in the future.
  • (2021-11-07) rheedan dugmore: 0/5. This software is absolute garbage, and just does not work on MacOS. Good luck if your institution forces you to use it.
  • (2021-10-27) Archie.Carrie Feldman: It doesn't upload the files, it creates a more stressful environment and it costs you more money and time having to pay to rewrite something that you already written. Sometimes twice already due to the application failing.
  • (2021-10-24) Shuaib Johnson: Looked down at my keyboard and it thought i had left, hopeless application with hopeless capabilities.
  • (2021-10-02) Xolisile Ngubane: still struggling to get this app installed its really annoying to keep trying this with no sign of winning
  • (2021-09-23) Refilwe Molaba: I could not go past the installation phase. Response from support team takes forever. I just hope Im able to get help before my exam.
  • (2021-09-20) resteasy ln: unisa spyware.👌👌👌👌👌
  • (2021-09-13) Dijon Mboko: Trash
  • (2021-09-13) kylie maree: This simply does not work anymore.
  • (2021-09-11) Sboniso Zama: worst exrension on the face of the earth
  • (2021-09-10) Kyra Lee Murcott: I don't see how this is useful when all I need to do is tilt my head slightly and it thinks I've left, they are lying about this extensions abilities. We are in the year 2021 and facial tracking is amazing now. Why the actual f*** are people paying for this, do they think we are still living in 2008? The only good thing about this is that the IRIS instructor looks like a South Park character, so I at least had something to laugh at. Cheers to everyone writing "suspicious" exams.
  • (2021-08-31) Dylan Van wyk: Terrible system. Uses so much bandwidth. Very distracting when trying to write exams.
  • (2021-07-20) Ray Zee: Utter garbage. I couldn't even get past the sharing your screen, the share button is disabled.
  • (2021-06-01) K K: Fail to upload. And now I couldn't even open finanlise recordings. How can I submit my recording to school? This is an important exam for me but IRIS destroy it! Rubbish App.
  • (2021-04-12) Colin Tan: very bad system
  • (2021-02-09) Eunice Mathako: worse than ever, terrible
  • (2021-02-01) Kholofelo Queen Raseu: The worst thing ever invented
  • (2021-01-29) Adam Daniels: Does not work half the time. When updates do get rolled out the end up having more bugs than before. Some backalley development at work.
  • (2021-01-27) Nompumelelo Nkabini: NOT HELPFUL
  • (2021-01-26) Liam As I've said, Liam: I have to rewrite my COS3721 exam for the 3rd time in 2 months. The last 2 times they did not receive my recordings and I was marked absent. Unisa should stop using this malware.
  • (2020-11-30) Bazali Maphosa: Does anyone from Iris or Unisa ever read this. Horrible way of punishing students. Its not user friendly at all. One has to spend time trying to figure it out. How do we upload our pictures? This is a nightmare. Unisa should do away with this. There is only one person trying to help so many students....what a joke.
  • (2020-11-25) Myrtle Tinkle: No help.
  • (2020-11-21) Matome Rasekele: I'm spending too much time getting this to work
