Open New Tab After Current Tab

CRX id

Description from extension meta

Opens new tab after the active tab, instead of last position.

Image from store Open New Tab After Current Tab
Description from store By default a new tab is opened at the end of the row of tabs, but it's not intuitive: with this extension a new tab opened with the keyboard shortcut (⌘ Cmd+T) or with the "plus" button will be opened just after the current active tab.

  • (2021-04-29) Kevin Kuhle: It does what it says it does. It would be nice to be able to define a keyboard shortcut to open a tab in the default location like the "Open Tabs Next to Current" extension does.

  • (2020-02-04) Tony Snark: Still can't find a perfect replacement for the classic "Tab to the next" that went missing from the Chrome store. This one is close, but one issue is that when you do an undo close tab (ctrl+shift+T), it reopens that tab to the right of the current tab instead of in its original position. "Tab to the next" was able to differentiate this and handle it appropriately. I hope the developer will update this extension to do the same.
  • (2019-10-27) Does exactly what it claims: opens the new tab after the current tab instead of as the last tab in a window. This is very useful for not losing one's place in a crowded window of tabs.
  • (2019-07-26) Michael Gallo: it's a travesty that Chrome was allowed to ship without this functionality. Thank you.
  • (2019-06-25) zero xia: Middle button click usually opens the new tab on the right most, not next to current tab. Quite annoying.
  • (2019-05-22) Mauricio Oliveira: very practical. if possible I could add function to close the tab and return to the last active tab https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tab-position-customizer-2/jglbflnkbgbklegdblkohbbbheeeklej?hl=pt-BR
  • (2019-04-20) Hosty: I dont know why when I startup chrome and restore my session the tabs are in reverse order than what I left them I think this extension might be the reason.
  • (2018-10-25) André Kelling: seems just working on every second new tab opening
  • (2018-10-11) Saikat Guha: great extension. but just wondering why does it ask for permission to access data on all websites and modify your extension and all ?

If you don't want to read it in such a small window, without clickable links, here is a PDF: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9viXv1z5Ij5WjlGNDdyaEkzdm8/view?usp=sharing Hey. I already gave you a review, but I found some minor problems. I think, that this add-on is kind of new, so I want to help improving it, by reporting Bugs. 1. Normally, when I open a new tab (Ctrl + T), the tab opens at the end, and then goes to the place, where it is supposed to be. But from time to time that doesn’t work, and it stays at the end… It may has to do with the fact, that I always have a lot of tabs opened… - Here a Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/m6YOiTT.jpg For you to get to find out where the problem is here my current setup: - Windows 7 64bit - Chrome 47.0.2526.106 - Installed add-ons and userscripts: http://hastebin.com/noterujace.vhdl (please at least look at this, it took me quite some effort to do this…  ) 2. When I save a session in “Session Buddy” and reopen it, all tabs are in a different order, because every tab is opened not at the end, but after the active one. The problem occurs not only with this add-on, but every time a tab is opened. May it be possible to add an options section to your add-on, where you could set its behavior to only open a new tab after the current one, if the shortcut “Ctrl + T” is used? Or that its only opened after the current one, if “Open link in new tab” / middle-mouse-button OR “Ctrl + T” is used? Would like that a lot. Or maybe even some other conditions, which have to be met… I hope I could help, also I hope my English isn’t too bad (I’m from Germany…). I would really appreciate it, if you could answer on this, because it took me all in all quite some effort.  If you have still some questions, mail me at: [email protected]
