Image from store Zoom Block
Description from store Zoom Block disables zooming in Chrome by default preventing unwanted or accidental zooming. Zooming can be re-enable on a per-tab basis by clicking the Zoom Block icon. FAQ: Q: What permissions does Zoom Block require? A: Zoom Block does not require any permissions. Through careful handling of errors, Zoom Block is able to operate without access to any sensitive information. Q: Does Zoom Block use analytics? A: No. Zoom Block respects its users' privacy. No network requests of any kind are ever made. Q: Can Zoom Block "lock" a custom zoom level? A: The browser extension API does not offer an elegant way to accomplish this. The best option is to change the browser's default zoom level. Chrome's default zoom settings can be found in Settings -> Appearance -> Page Zoom. Zoom Block will then prevent modifications to the set level. Q: Why does Zoom Block's icon sometimes turn gray? A: Some browsers do not allow extensions to modify certain pages (typically internal or settings pages). Zoom Block is therefore unable to prevent zooming on those pages, and the icon will turn gray to indicate such a situation. Q: I found a bug! Where can I submit a report? A: Please open an issue on GitHub (https://github.com/warnellw/Zoom-Block/issues) with a detailed description. Pull requests welcome! License: Zoom Block is licensed under GPLv3. • (2025-05-06) M CD: This extension is exactly what I needed. I kept accidentally zooming in and out on websites using the trackpad or keyboard shortcuts, which was super frustrating. Zoom Block completely solved that problem—it stops unwanted zooming without affecting anything else. It’s lightweight, easy to install, and just works. A must-have for anyone tired of sudden page zooms!

You can say that you tested it---until you're blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that it does squat for most of your user base.
  • (2025-01-29) Jay Gothard: I got this extension, as many others others probably did, to stop the annoying accidental zoom in or out when touching the touchpad wrong. I have a Logitech keyboard, but I'm guessing this issue also happens on laptops with a touchpad. Installing Zoom Block had zero effect on my ability to zoom in or out using the touchpad. Didn't work in Brave or Google Chrome. You can say that you tested it at the time of this review until you are blue in the face, but IT DIDN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • (2024-12-15) Albert911emt -: Doesn't work at all, on multiple sites and pages.
  • (2024-12-05) Joe: Praise the Lord! [And Zoom Block] Come on Chrome people, let's have this baked in as a default. Like tabs recovery you have added lately - so my reliance on session buddy has reduced.
  • (2024-11-11) Laurent Grimaldi: thank's for your extension !
  • (2024-10-21) Mark K: I definitely like that zooming is disabled in Chrome by default. I have been plagued by "random and inopportune" zooming, especially when I use any of my laptops, each having a track pad between me and the keys. I'm sure that I'm the cause the zooming and have been wanting to disable zooming for a long time. 1) After installation, the icon didn't show up on the toolbar as shown in the description. After some hunting, I ended up at the extension settings and saw it was on, but it wasn't set to be pinned to the toolbar, so I enabled that setting. 2) The icon was grayed out on my current tab (the extension settings). While the description doesn't say it works with ALL Chrome pages, I assumed it did from the description. After more hunting, I found that one of the FAQs stated that the extension does not work with some pages, including Chrome settings. It also doesn't work on the Chrome Web Store page. 3) When Zoom Block is disabled on a tab and is Chrome closed, Zoom Block is enabled in the tab when Chrome is started, with "Continue where you left off." It'd be nice if the setting was "preserved" for each tab Don't know if this same issue happens after Chrome crashes, after Chrome restarts from an update, a tab is reopened after closing, or after being closed on Windows shutdown. There's probably other situations. Will try to add to issue site for consideration. P.S. Definitely doesn't fully work on Chrome. Unfortunately don't know what I did to cause the pane to zoom to ~110%, although I'm sure it has something to do with the track pad and me typing. Extension was enabled and Chrome was on a "regular" page, Yahoo mail. Chrome said it was still zoomed to 80% and the zoom setting was locked. Only restoration was to close Chrome and start it to get the affected tab back to 80%. After disabling the extension, I was able to change the zoom setting. I did update Chrome earlier today.

  • (2024-08-12) Shreshth Dharm-Datta: Works really well to help with Accessibility for users where pinch-to-zoom is more an encumbrance than a feature. I have put a request on the GitHub website if this code can be updated by the author or forked to continue the excellent accessibility feature so far. Updated 12 Aug 24: Put the above message into GitHub and the author has very kindly updated the extension to Manifest v3 (and responded). 5 stars!
  • (2024-08-02) CFB IT Support: Great extension, works perfectly !!! Hopefully the developer will update it so it continues to be available!!!
  • (2024-07-27) Mike M.: Hopefully the dev will update this to the new extension API or Google will automatically disable the extension soon. 5 stars as it has worked like a charm for years. (And for now).
  • (2024-07-04) Nash: Installed on my grandmother pc so she would stop bothering me constantly about facebook being zoomed in. Works amazing. Thank you.
  • (2024-03-04) Asif Ahmad: Does not appear to be working on Chrome 123.0.6312.22 for me (under Linux).
  • (2023-11-18) Edwin Barton: Works great after I toggle it off then on again with the toolbar icon. Otherwise it doesn't seem to work on initial page loads (or by refreshing the page, only kicks in by manually toggling it despite the icon indicating that it is enabled already)
  • (2023-11-14) J T: Works for everything except when using the back button to return to a google search or when reopening a prior closed tab containing a google search which the zoom is changed from the default 100% to 150%

  • (2022-02-18) Pär Larsson: Great extension except it also resets the zoom to 100% and won't let you just disable it at a specific setting for a specific website, say at 125%. Meh.

  • (2019-12-13) Chris Vydas: Blocks nothing. Browsers continues to zoom in when the focus is placed on the text input field which would be ok if the browser didn't zoom so far in and reverted to the previous zoom level once focusing on the main portion of the page, but that's not what happens. This extension does nothing at all.
