Description from extension meta

Set your icons for bookmarks which came without it!

Image from store Bookmark Iconizer
Description from store Some of your bookmarks don't have any favicon (icon)? Well, then add one! Google Chrome doesn't let you do this natively ¯\_(°∩°)_/¯ So this extension uses a hack on Google Chrome, that works ;) FEATURES: → If your bookmark doesn't have an icon (or has a blank icon) this will let you set it a favicon! → This is permanent, so favicons stay even if you turn off or uninstall this extension :D Unlike in every other extension I saw! (That's why I made this one.) → If you leave it, though, it will provide you a simple quick and dynamic search through your bookmarks :) → This extension allows you also to set favicons also for bookmarklets (=scripts)! \o/ USER'S SAY: → "A tiny bit of fiddling around involved but worth it." → "it's a bit fiddly but it works" INCOVENIENCES: → Google Chrome doesn't let extensions managing favicons. The only way to do this is to import bookmarks (one or more) from a backup file with a fixed favicon stored in it. This extension will let you choose bookmarks, choose favicons, create such backup file automatically and then you'll have to export it and import it again. There's no other way ¯\_(°∩°)_/¯ → And while it's importing bookmarks which you already have, it results in duplication of them. No worries, the duplicates are all in one directory (folder) at the end of Bookmarks Bar. → In Google Chrome favicon is related to a bookmark's address (URL) and is permanent (when set in this way). So if *you* change favicon once, you can't change it again. The workaround is to change the URL of bookmark a little (e.g. add "#" or "/" at the end, or empty parameter "?sth" or "&sth") – for Chrome it will be a new bookmark. → While you can set a favicon for bookmarklets (scripts) it's probably not possible to set if for bookmarklets with only anonymous function, like: "javascript:(function(){…})()". Sorry. I also had to edit half of my bookmarklets. → It is not possible in Google Chrome to change icons of folders. Sorry. I'm sad, too. ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS EXTENSION? • (2023-08-18) Agnaktorex: Does not work. It says "rightclick this icon and save on disc" but this option is greyed out. It does not even explain why i should download the old icon. Still 2 stars for the effort.
  • (2023-06-05) Tim Ervin: I can't get it to work. I can input my desired image and get it to appear correctly in the extension's Base64 Encoded column, but when I import it, it still has the same favicon as before. My use case FWIW: multiple Azure DevOps agile boards that I would like to pin in my browser with different favicons representing our desktop & mobile apps, etc.
  • (2021-02-20) Haodong Du: It works, with some drawbacks. 1. The extension should be able to request file permission and write bookmark directly 2. Icon changed after update url 3. The extension should embed base64 encoding service
  • (2021-01-24) john hamann: blank icons are all gone thank you!!!
  • (2020-08-02) Adrienne (RetinAdrienne): Thank you!!!! This is the only extension I could find that would allow me to change the favicon for a bookmark that was pure script.
  • (2017-09-01) John Martin: Garbage. Did all the steps and doesn't work... or very poor documentation.
  • (2017-04-25) Johny Why: 3 issues: - requires export/import (convenience) - results in duplicate bookmarks (convenience) - requires "data" prefix on base64 (should explain in extension options). This converter will give the "data" prefix: https://www.base64-image.de/ - converter could/should be built-into the extension Otherwise: works great!
  • (2016-05-06) Solar Lark: Makes it a wee bit easier to change javascript icons. (I hate having those blanks on the icon bar.) Especially useful if someone isn't familiar with manipulating the code themselves. Takes a little time, but given Chrome's restrictions, the workaround is well-conceived.
  • (2014-01-12) Eric Williams: Thanks for the detailed instructions. I'd like to donate to your fridge fund, but the PayPal link disappeared when I uploaded the iconized favicons to my Bookmark Manager.
  • (2013-09-19) John Swire: This is infinitely better than nothing at all! But as far as I can see you can't change the icon for folders so it doesn't address my specific issue of a bunch of identical folder icons on my bookmarks bar. Thanks to the developers though - good effort.
  • (2013-07-02) Sandy Motteram: I'm so glad that someone has finally got round to doing this. As Dean stated, it's a bit fiddly but it works and that's the main thing! Thank you!
  • (2013-06-22) Dean-Ryan Stone: Excellent first attempt at working around important missing functionality in Chrome. A tiny bit of fiddling around involved but worth it. Well done!

  • (2023-06-25, v:1.7.1) lawrence d'Aniello: Favicon disappears on page refresh
Hi, thanks for your nice extension! I was able to import a favicon for this site https://scoprirete.bibliotecheromagna.it/opac/page/advanced but it disappears on page refresh. This is the HTML file with favicon I am trying to use: https://filetransfer.io/data-package/Z38gswgk#link I also tried to add "?parameter=nothing" (without quotes) at the end of the URI, without success. Could you help me, please? Thank you!
  • (2020-10-10, v:1.7.1) Randolph Price: Bookmark Folder Icons
I'm sad like you are and maybe one day Google chrome will allow this....so much more efficient for us visual types. Firefox had an extension once upon a time, not sure if it's still available. I have considered going back to Firefox if that extension was still available. Why can't it be done in Chrome? Just curious. Take care!

Things went on well until the page which previously changed loaded again. That icon disappered forever.
