Description from extension meta

This extension splits a window into two at the selected tab.

Image from store Tab Scissors
Description from store This simple tab organization tool divides one window into two. If you have at least two tabs in the selected Chrome window, it will split that window into two smaller side-by-side windows. All the tabs on the left side of the selected tab will stay in the left window, and the rest will move to the window on the right. It is especially helpful for those who have lots of tabs opened at a time. This extension works great with Tab Glue (http://bit.ly/WjGnm7), which will glue all those pesky Chrome windows back together. Version 1.2 Update: You can now also perform a glue or cut using a shortcut specified on the chrome extensions page. Default is Alt+S to cut, Alt+G to glue, Alt+A to glue all (including minimized windows)

  • (2021-05-15) Kayla Flores: Have no idea what the complaints are about. I had opened about 50 pdf tabs open, needed them separated into two 25 tab pdf windows, did the thing perfectly. I use mine side-by-side all the time. Resizing isn't an issue, just slam the window up if you want it fullscreen, to the left or right if you want halfscreen.

  • (2020-08-14) Deanna Geertsema: I have a MacBook Pro. I clicking alt+s it doesn't work
  • (2020-04-10) Carl Meacham: Why does it need my browsing history? You dont need that in order to split my tabs. Looks fishy.
  • (2020-02-02) Christian Gilbert: Instead of splitting tab view, it split the whole Chrome and you end up losing tabs open on the left of current tab because they are opened in a new window. The demo shows current tab only been opened in next window. I had to reopen 5 tabs split to new windows cause there is no option to undo. Just choose to open the tab in a new window, it will do the same without waste of time.

  • (2018-10-24) Becky P: I love this! It's especially useful during report card writing time. I can have ideas for remarks on one side and my report card template on the other. So useful.
  • (2018-10-19) Lily Chen: You may not be aware that Chrome has a built-in feature to do what this extension does. Simply click on the starting tab of the ones you want to split off, then shift-click on the last tab of the ones you want to split off. Then all the tabs you want to split off will be selected. Then you just drag-and-drop the selected tabs into another window, or drag into blank space to create a new window. This extension does save a few clicks though.
  • (2018-09-10) Victoria: Great at snipping (which I find useful for when I want to create a new Desktop on OSX, or if my tab divider app crashes and all my tabs reassemble themselves in a single window), but I find that only one of the windows preserves Chrome's application and bookmarks toolbar. Not sure if it's a bug or if there's a setting I can flip to fix this, but it's annoying to have to manually create a new window and drag the tabs back into the new window if I want to e.g. select which folder my new bookmarks are saved in, or use any of my applications with a shortcut.
  • (2018-08-21) Mason Thrall: Great but one of the windows created is missing the extension buttons.
  • (2018-07-21) Sam Shef: Does exactly what it says it will do. Love it!

  • (2018-07-01) Rx Foo: nice. have support for my dual monitor setup. it asks for what monitor and what location
  • (2018-06-05) senselocke: Oh sure, it cuts just fine. But it also has a "lump every open tab into one massive window, which is a completely unwanted, obnoxious "feature" that shouldn't be included, or at least should be able to be turned off. No shortcuts, no options to do so, and it activates on ALT+a--y'know, that thing you use in text editors to replace. Unless and until this "glue all" feature is OPTIONAL, this is less than useless--it's actively counter-productive.
  • (2018-05-02) Keren Manzano: Love it but wish they tabs would separate to fit both halves evenly. I always need to adjust it.

  • (2017-12-30) Google User: Problem 1: It drives me crazy how the new windows are always half as wide. I understand how that could be useful for someone, but I can't imagine it ever being useful for my purposes. I always have to resize both windows manually. Solution: Add an option to the settings page to either resize or don't resize. Problem 2: You have to either install two extensions or you have to go into settings and change how the button works if you want to both snip and glue. Solution: Add a popup.html menu that appears when you click on the button where you can select snip or glue. To maintain the original use case, add a toggle to your options that enables or disables this popup menu, and set default to false.

As discussed on your Google Store for "Tab Scissors" in the "Support" tab since October 1, 2019: Posted by Wallace Carroll - Oct 1: "On some of our 18 computers, Tab Scissors works as described. All 18 are running the same Windows 10 version. However, on some computers Tab Scissors does make two windows, but each is full screen, not side by side. Maybe there is a Chrome setting on those computers affecting this. Is this a known issue? What should be done?" Posted by Me (Jon Thomas [email protected]) - On our 20 computers (at TayFHC.org): "Our recent symptom on Windows-7 Chrome is very similar, but instead, the left tabs stays in one full screen window, but then the current (and farther-right) tabs gets moved into a half-width window on the right. That is not how it is supposed to happen. The left tabs resulting window is supposed to shrink to a half-width window on the left half of the monitor screen. So please fix.

  • (2019-07-29, v:1.2) Jānis Ķengurs: Accidentally in some Languages writing does actions undesired Alt+S to cut, Alt+G to glue, Alt+A to glue all (including minimized windows)
Google Latvian Keyboard, to see how online it works to make alt+s to make š, alt+a makes ā, alt+G make ģ. We have 2 keyboards, with preclick tilde symbol ~ or most used one alt holding, which is more ergonomic. So it would overtake on theese letters while in English keyboard writing in Latvian, when forgot to change to Latvian.
  • (2019-05-03, v:1.2) taylor1277: Curious about name of extension and icon
How come like every other extension, this extension doesn't have the same icon as the chrome web store and the extension that is placed on my browser. like the scissors, are vertical on one and horizontal on the other, and when you highlight it in the browser it says split at selected tab instead of tab scissors. this a good extension, although I like to keep track of my extensions by bookmarking them. if they don't work I out them in an bookmark folder called extensions trash, could you think about making the icons the same and when I highlight the extension it says tab scissors, instead of what I said it was above, thank you.

After using Tab Scissors, the original window no longer shows extension icons. The "fix" is to drag each tab, one by one, out to a new window. Can be quite a long process. Not sure what's happening, but it appears that the URL bar is extending too far to the right, pushing the extension icons out of sight.
