A tool for reinforcing your WaniKani vocabulary

Image from store Wanikanify
Description from store Take the kanji you've studied and inject them into the web! Wanikanify takes the vocabulary you've studied, finds the english word on a webpage and substitutes the kanji character. As you learn more kanji, your webpages begin to fill up with kanji! Wanikanify can find word anywhere on a webpage and replace it for kanji characters. It is a great utility for practicing and recalling vocabulary you may have forgotten. To get started, install the extension, and go to the options page. Add your public WaniKani API key, which can be found on on the WaniKani website, and hit save. Navigate to your favorite webpages, hit the Crabigator and read as normal. As you read you'll come across kanji characters you should know. Do you remember what the mean? How to pronounce them? Features: - Importing Google Spreadsheet Data - Custom Vocab Override - Google Chrome Sync - Audio

  • (2021-02-20) Michael Osborne: Doesn't work. I'm sure it was great when it did work.
  • (2020-03-08) Pie Dev: Not supported / functional anymore. :(
  • (2020-02-18) Volodymyr Shcherbatenko: Is it still working? Doesn't seem so
  • (2019-08-06) Olivier Herzog: Doesnt seem to work anymore =/ that why i put this rating.
  • (2017-09-02) Alexandru: Like the idea, but the whitelist doesn't seem to work.
  • (2016-11-09) Andrew Winegarner: Excellent as a sort of flashcard implementation. Obviously not good for actual reading since it is still in english grammar format etc. But as far as ensuring you see recently learning words, it is excellent.
  • (2016-05-03) Jason Rashall: Solid extension, good for remembering vocab and getting proficient at reading quickly. I haven't used the personal vocab lists or tables yet but they seem like they add a lot to the extension. I would highly recommend this extension to anybody using Wanikani. A few things that could be improved on: 1. Blacklist and/or overrides (use a certain meaning over another) for certain words/kanji for words that consistently aren't making contextual sense 2. Increased information shown when hovering above a kanji/vocab such as the reading (hiragana) 3. The ability to click Wanikanified words to bring you to the Wanikani info page for that kanji/vocab With these few added features, this extension could go from a good one to a great one. -1 star for lack of above features. EDIT: Using Rikaikun, #2/3 are resolved.
  • (2016-01-31) Sebastian Campos: Really great tool to get in extra practice. Great for learning secondary and tertiary meanings of kanji. Needs to have some sort of contextual awareness implemented in future versions.
  • (2016-01-04) Sawyer Novak: This app is amazing for practice, but makes me think like I'm talking like a weeaboo whenever I'm on the internet! lol
  • (2015-12-27) Tarron Kayalackakom: Great chrome extension, makes learning Japanese considerably easier by heightening immersion based on your Wanikani level. A couple of small fixes which would be fairly significant improvements: 1) an ignore list for words like "and" which is currently being replaced with "又" (I'm guessing I'll encounter more like that later on.) 2) Including the hiragana/katakana spelling of the word next to the English definition which one sees when one scrolls over a replaced word.
  • (2015-11-19) Death Networks (Deathnetworks): Love it, though recently bumped into a slight bug/issue/annoyance. One day is being treated as singular words, any chance to have this treated as a combination?
  • (2015-09-17) Tom Symonds: This is a wonderful App, allows for immersive learning. Thank you! There is a firefox version out, I'd love to see a Safari version too if possible!
  • (2015-07-27) Anika Heinle: How do I stop it from using SimSun font on Wanikani?
  • (2015-02-02) Rob D.: This is the first extension review I have written and I just have to say how happy I am with Wanikanify. It's so exciting as a beginner, to see my vocabulary slowly start to be introduced into my daily reading. Thank you so much jose.e.falcon.
  • (2014-10-26) Søren Lang: Super useful. Highly recommended for all WaniKani users!
  • (2014-08-30) İhsan Işık: This is awesome. One thing to add up though, it would be even better if there was an option to get the page wanikanified automatically as it loads..
  • (2014-01-02) Izumi Koushiro: Quite possibly my favorite WaniKani add-on ^^ Love it to pieces, thanks.
  • (2013-12-14) Ibby Abouelenein: This is incredible, thanks so much for developing this!
  • (2013-12-07) Josh Maggard: This is brilliant! A great way to study kanji. A must have for all WaniKani users.
  • (2013-10-08) Velimir Radulovic: Awesome!
  • (2013-09-08) William Wright (Scott): This extension is AWESOME!, except for the fact that it causes new tabs to freeze for ~10 seconds.
  • (2013-09-08) Gustav Dahl: Nice app! Love it! However, I have one suggestion: being able to exclude (whitelist) certain websites, such as Google Searches which is VERY slow with this extension (automatic enabled).
  • (2013-08-06) Wow! Now I'm actually being productive when I click the "view random article" button on Wikipedia! The only drawback is that it takes longer for a page to load, but that's to be expected.
  • (2013-02-05) Jay O-H: Good idea. I would like the hover to give you the phonetic pronounciation, and the click to give the translation though.
  • (2013-02-02) Brandon Quaal: I have to give it 4 stars because as much as I absolutely love it, I have to disable it each time I'm writing any sort of email/blog entry as it does not only edit the website.. it edits text fields too which means you will be sending weird emails to your friends with Kanji inserted.
  • (2013-01-28) Edmundas Pilvelis: Amazing. Just one wish: that it had a list, for url, taht would not load it.
  • (2012-12-28) Mat Fisher: Wonderful plugin that really compliments the WaniKani site. Must have if you use the site!
  • (2012-12-16) Lara Barrett: Fantastic--seeing all this vocab in a different context is really helping me with my recall! Thanks!!!
