Mute Tab Shortcuts
Quickly mute tabs with keyboard shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts for muting tabs.
Default setup:
- Mute/Unmute current tab - Alt + Shift + M
- Mute all except current one - Alt+Shift+N
- Mute/Unmute all tabs - Alt + Shift + Comma
Keybindings can be edited through the "Keyboard Shortcut" menu at the bottom right in the Chrome extension settings.
Or past this in the omnibox:

Is there a firefox version of this extension?
It's a excellent extension but it will be removed soon. The original developer no longer maintains it, so i have upgraded it to mv3 based on this extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/mute-tab/djnlklfindboblpikpeaedoamfhgklfd
like someone else said, its crazy how this function isnt built into the browser... anyhow, awesome extension!
excellent plugin. but for it does break when you have many tabs open. around 35+ tabs.
It works great! But first you should go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts to set the shortcut key and it only works when there is a tab playing audio

Working great, thank you, one correction to the description, the "Keyboard Shortcuts" menu is no longer at the bottom right but you need to click on the menu icon on the upper left and then in "Keyboard Shortcuts".

Super helpful! Make sure to set any of the shortcuts you want to use when not focused on the chrome browser to "global".

Didn't actually work for me. Muted sites made noise and the chrome mute stopped working. Bummer.

This is just a life saver now I can mute out my teacher and watch youtube instead tysm!!!

The extension works fine but for some reason, it changes the layout of my keyboard too so when trying to use @ its is now on Shift + 2. I try all of the combinations to undo this but still wont change back and have to reboot my whole PC to get it back to normal.

Really works well and does what it says. I didn't think it was possible to mute individual tabs from the same site but with this you can.

There should be a keyboard shortcut to mute tabs, and this accomplishes that.

funciona bien siempre y cuando se tengan todas las pestañas en la misma ventana, si tenemos dos pestañas reproduciendo audio en dos ventanas diferentes, silencia ambas no sólo la de la ventana activa...
There's always room for improvement, however, the key bindings and behavior make this one of THE best extensions if you desire to mute one tab or another. Works great in coordination with the default Chrome behavior muting sites, BTW. And you can bind to alternate keys if you so choose. Excellent work!

It is better than most for having multiple options. It does what it says it does, but i would like key binds because that would make it less uncomfortable to press.

I've been using this extension for a year or more, and although I like all the features/rules -- it's just been too buggy/inconsistent for me. Sometimes I press the keyboard shortcut 3 times before it will engage -- and sometimes it never works and I have to manually go into the menu to quiet my tabs. Plus it often (but not always) defaults to muted tabs, even though my settings don't say to do that. I just switched to a new extension (unMute) that I'll give a go.
