Description from extension meta

This extension lets you change the title of a tab

Image from store Tab Titler
Description from store An easy way to rename the title of any tab, without changing any of the tab's content! Simply click on the Tab Titler extension, type in a new name, and voila. Your new tab name will be displayed until you leave or refresh the page. The Tab Titler is ideal for anyone who is regularly frustrated by incomplete, in-concise, or just generally useless tab names. Also useful for when you want to rename embarrassing tabs. Super awesome features include: - you don't even have to CLICK on the text box to start typing a new tab name. It just knows. - you don't even have to click on the 'confirm' button. Just press enter. - you don't even have to click 'close' once you've renamed a tab. It'll just close for you. It's that good.

  • (2021-03-06) Newtomic: A very weak one for the purpose.
  • (2021-02-04) Alik Elzin: Didn't work :(
  • (2020-03-02) Chris Larkin: No longer works. Cool idea - wish it worked!
  • (2020-02-13) Pacomatic: I loved it. Just a note to anybody reading this, it won't work on: -New Tab -Any sites that change their name while using it. -Anything connected to Google. Oh, and the name also sticks even if you don't use the tab. It also won't stick if you go to another tab. ALSO also, it doesn't stick while reloading 'cuz I think all chrome does is deletes the link and re-enters it. Hope you found it helpful
  • (2019-08-21) Suzanna Milligan: I use it for Odyssey. I have multiple students and thus need a quick way to access each. The name reverts to Odyssey when you go back to gradebook to set or change anything. Very frustrating to have to redo each time I need to get in and out. I will remove the extension. Let me know when you fix this issue.

  • (2018-10-10) Blake Holloway: Doesnt work
  • (2018-07-24) Tom Hubl: Not working under Chrome build 67.0.3396.99
  • (2018-01-04) Dave Hayes: Doesn't work at all. Tried RenameTab and it works exactly as this one should have.
  • (2017-12-02) Ghost: Does what I want. I understand others would like permanent naming for tabs but for shopping and card making this is perfect! Perhaps have the option for both? Underneath where you confirm, have a tick-box that makes it permanent.
  • (2017-10-19) Enes Çimen: ideal for watching movies at work
  • (2017-10-02) Jack Sinclair: Doesn't work in Chrome version 61.0.3163.100
  • (2017-05-26) Tyler Barrick: Ok so this extension works as advertised however there is a ton of room for improvement. The following should be the focus if this will be developed further - Hold tab names after new page loads and refreshes - Hotkey to open the dialogue box to enter the new tab name I am not sure if these are doable in Chrome but if they were added this would be my favorite extension.
  • (2017-05-16) Herman Fassett: Great idea, didn't work for me.
  • (2017-03-22) Ramon Janssen: Useful, but shame it doesn't stick when the page reloads. It would be SUPER useful if it could tell whether the page really changed name or just reloaded (flash of a different URL, then back to what it was)
  • (2017-03-16) Ted Lam: just what I look for
  • (2016-03-15) :)

As most everyone else, my request is that the renames persist across reloads of the tab or even browser sessions. Ideally, this would work with Chrome / Google Sync, if one chooses to sync extensions.

I want to rename tabs so that they have simple names like CNN--not Breaking News from CNN. I want the names to be permanent.
