Hides all the metrics on Twitter.

Description from store The Twitter interface is filled with numbers. These numbers, or metrics, measure and present our social value and activity online, enumerating followers, likes, retweets, and more. But what are the effects of these numbers on who we follow, what we post, or how we feel when we use the site? Inviting us to consider these questions through our own experience, Twitter Demetricator is a web browser extension that hides the metrics. Follower, like, and notification counts disappear. “29.2K Tweets” under a trending hashtag becomes, simply, “Tweets”. Through changes like these, Demetricator lets us try out Twitter without the numbers, to see what happens when we can no longer judge ourselves and others in metric terms. With this artwork, I aim to disrupt our obsession with social media metrics, to reveal how they guide our behavior, and to ask who most benefits from a system that quantifies our public interactions online. Works with https://twitter.com and https://tweetdeck.twitter.com. 100% support for many language versions of Twitter, including English, English (UK), German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, Norwegian, Hungarian, and Sweedish; near full support for many other languages. https://bengrosser.com/projects/twitter-demetricator/

  • (2023-03-24) AlsoFlick: Its a great extension, It has to be updated again with twitter counting how many bookmarks someone does per post now since that is now visible. As well in DMs too, the follower count is shown when you are speaking to someone in the direct messages.
  • (2022-12-23) Violet Scarelli: Does exactly what I wanted. Can we have a switch that just hides view counts while leaving the others alone, though? Likes and retweets aren't as... pervasive as the new view counter.
  • (2022-12-23) BlakDragon220: It's SO CLOSE!! It needs the update to lose the real-time view metrics that were dropped 12/22/2022! PLEASE GET ON IT!
  • (2022-12-08) Pip: Helps me not worry so much about numbers
  • (2022-12-02) T: Hi, I've been using this extension for almost a year and I love it!! Though recently, it hasn't been hiding my following and followers numbers and I don't know how to fix it.
  • (2022-09-06) just shiro: This was a great extension, worked perfectly until today. I don't know if it's because of chrome's newest update but I still can't see likes and retweets but I can see my follower/following count. 2022 edit: It's still alright
  • (2022-07-11) Naga: I'm sorry. Not what I'm looking for. But It's good design.
  • (2022-05-12) Jay Kozatt: Lately my own self-esteem has taken a massive hit due to these awful metrics. This extension is a breath of fresh air for me. It feels so comforting to no longer be a slave to the numbers, so that I can soon enough begin my recovery. Thank you so much, Grosser. I don't think it's an understatement to say that his work has probably saved my life.
  • (2022-02-05) FELICIA CHANDRA -: omg!! I've just tried it today and I'm amazed. I'm constantly battling with social anxiety from using social media especially when it comes to the followers count. I really don't want to see that and it seems like that number controls my anxiety, I hate it so much! But after I tried this extension, all of that numbers were gone, my anxiety went down a lot! thank you!! It would be great if in the future there's an option to toggle people you are mutually following each other (since they're my friends and I don't want to ignore them because I don't know if they're replying to my comment or not on my TL) But overall this is an amazing extension!!
  • (2022-02-05) Anh: Love this extension! I would love to be able to see comment numbers however- I use twitter mostly for community engagement, and it's hard to engage in conversations if I have no clue if they're being had!
  • (2021-12-09) Kyle Liu: I found the twitters numbers are too addictive! I found myself constantly checking the follower numbers for increase or decrease. I felt bad if I see people quit following. Felt good if I saw more people followed. This has affect on the brain dopamine reward circuit. This can't be good. This plugin instantly hide all the metrics without setting after installation. Now, I feel peace. Thank you!
  • (2021-08-18) Komma: It works like it intended to do. And (as a content creator) I can't use twitter without this extension. Indispensable. Thank you very much for my sanity.
  • (2021-08-08) d: Great extension, would love to see it for Reddit and YouTube as well.
  • (2021-08-07) Marina Neira McKinzie: This is incredible for my mental health. I do wish There was an option to show reply count, however. I do want to engage with my followers. So I'd like to see how many replies a post has. I just don't want to see likes, RTs, and especially, how many followers I have. If you could make it so replies could be toggled on, it would be perfect. I am grateful for the extension all the same!
  • (2021-07-21) Luna: I know this is perhaps kind of "defeating the point" but I still would really prefer to see mine, via whitelist. I've been needing to hide everyone else's metrics for a long time so this is a lifesaver. Being able to toggle mine and only mine on or off would be even better. I'm also planning on sending this to some of my friends who are hyper active on Twitter as well. ^u^
  • (2021-06-09) Joshua Daniel: Really like the idea with this extension. My only issue with it is that when I hover over a post, it still ends up showing me the metrics of that post. If I'm not moused over it, the numbers are hidden but as soon as I mouse of it, they come back
  • (2021-04-19) William Leclerc: Does what it says on the tin.
  • (2021-04-08) Uni: Great extension to help with insecurity and anxiety caused by social media, would reccomend. However, it could use soe ore items like hiding replies, hiding the date of the tweet once expanded (when viewing it on a timeline, it hides the time at the top right, but when expanded you still see the date posted). And possible the ability to hide related tweets section too. d(-_☆)
  • (2021-01-08) Michaela “Kelly” Pettersen: Just installed this and I'm already so happy. As an artist, I absolutely struggle with critically analyzing the amount of engagement I get and compare it to others around me. I'm ecstatic to have these numbers hidden from me so I can focus less on others and moreso on myself and feeling better about the works I put out. Truly- thank you so much.
  • (2020-11-30) Neeha Baral: i love this extension! i was getting really sick of twitter when i realized i had started getting obsessed with the numbers on my art and other posts. it's just not a healthy way to live lol glad i found this and it works like a charm
  • (2020-10-30) Charles H: *EDIT* it looks like it has stopped completely working as of a few days ago. There are several instances where I can still see the twitter metrics now. It'd be nice to do an update, but I'm not sure where the update would need to happen. I entirely rely on this extension to use Twitter. I consider Twitter's methods to be psychological warfare, exploiting our obsession with numbers and being the best. I started using this extension 2 years ago and it's helped me so much at uncoupling my sense of self worth with the scores my art and animations get. Now all I care about are the comments. My sense of how something does now is only vague, like "Oh this got a lot of comments" or "this didn't get as many" and this is often not indicative of the actual score. I've gotten tons of connections and opportunities without having to obsess about metrics. I seriously fear the time when this extension stops working. It's so blissful using Twitter without worrying about how I stack up. I'm doing fine.
  • (2020-08-22) omar benaidy: thanks man. was looking for something like this for ages it doesn't work for me for trends but it's ok for me since i don't look their too much anyways thanks and have a great day.
  • (2020-08-13) Gnarly: Doesn't work anymore, now shows that everyone has a like, retweet, and comment. (the little dots)
  • (2020-07-27) Opening Theme: Thank you. Exactly what I needed to be able to use the platform without having a spiralling meltdown.
  • (2020-07-26) Grey (ChadQuaza): doesn't work, doesn't actually ask for permission for changing site data, but for reading browser history instead obvious spyware
  • (2020-02-16) Fumiya I: Awesome. I used to hate see my twitter info all time I do tweeting. This one helps me a lot.
  • (2019-12-15) Li Lai: Exactly what the other user said below—this extension works beautifully and instantly, but I also wish that timestamps weren't removed from posts.
  • (2019-03-16) Daniel Gratz: So glad this exists! I've been hesitant to try twitter for years, weary of the effects it might have on me socially. I simply was unwilling to give over the time and energy I imagined I might give to something so well designed to tap into my ego. Having discovered this, I'm finally willing to give Twitter a shot. Thank you! This is one I'll share with my friends. P.S. My only gripe, also mentioned by another reviewer, is that this extension (the Facebook one as well) lacks the ability to choose which metrics are hidden (I especially would like to be able to see the timestamps sometimes). That said, I understand the circumstances around this extension's development. If the user base ever reaches a point where monetary incentive from the community allows further development of Ben's extensions, I hope he knows I'd be a happy paying customer.
  • (2019-01-27) Matt Thurmond: Works great. Creates a very different, more calm and mindful twitter experience. It even encourages me to interact and post *more* since I'm less aware of and concerned with my metrics being low in comparison with those of others. I'm recommending this to friends.
  • (2018-07-14) Atika Azzahra Akbar: this is really what i needed but it would be nice if the tweet's posted time wasn't hidden.
