Simple Blocker

Blocks all websites from a list which you can edit. Free + easy to use + powerful. Just don't forget to press "save black list" each time you edit the list of websites to block.

Latest update, version 0.6.4.4 (2023-05-11): Not working at all currently, even if you give it full access to the sites it's supposed to block. It seems like the developer has been iterating rapidly, maybe fixing bugs then breaking it again. Though I still wonder if it's been hijacked. There have been no updates in the change log, and the support site is still down. I think I'm going to develop my own blocker extension, since I can't find any that don't ask for full read/write data access. I'm leaving the other info below in case it starts working again. ---------- (See below for how to disable the scary permission) Very suspicious: This extension suddenly asks permission to "read and change all your data on all websites", after working without that permission for many years. Most other site blockers also require this permission, but at least some of them explain why. I'd go find one of them if you're not already a user of Simple Blocker. The lack of permissions required in old versions was my one reason for choosing this extension over others. I'm very sad; I've been using it for many years. However, you can disable that permission if you want. I'm doing that in Simple Blocker because I already have it set up the way I want it. Open the Chrome Extensions settings page and click on the Details button for the extension (or for Simple Blocker just go to chrome://extensions/?id=akfbkbiialncppkngofjpglbbobjoeoe). Under "Site Access", change the pulldown from "On all sites" to "On click". Note that you have to install the extension before doing this, if it wasn't already installed, and it will be enabled when you install it. If you're newly installing the extension, I recommend closing all other tabs while you do the process above.

This extension has worked like a charm for me, though just today I noticed that sites and keywords on my list were no longer being blocked despite the extension and its main power switch both being turned on. Other than that, I really appreciate the simplicity. Add some websites/words, set a password, and you're done.

It works great, I love how simple is. However this review is because I have some issues now where it suddenly stopped blocking the websites. Not sure why, I didn't change anything. It just simply won't block the urls.

Is it possible to give a user a choice to "block requests to advertise specified websites" ? I feel uncomfortable giving permission to "Allow this extension to read and change all your data on websites you visit:"

I love the simplicity in both general use and updating.

Would it be possible to explain why "Point all website references to HTTPS version" requires the blanket data access permission that is now being requested?

After trying other, ad-ridden blockers, I am grateful to have found Simple Blocker. I'm trying to use less social media, and this tool's simplicity and clear UI make this straightforward. Plus, trying to open up social media and seeing a big "THIS PAGE HAS BEEN BLOCKED" badge gives me juuuuuust enough shame in public spaces to nudge me away from websites I don't want to see. Thank you, dev - never change!

It's good and does what it says. I personally could use an option to let me know when the timer has ended, like the tab it's on shaking or something.

its really good and easy especially the option on and off can be contacted easily. though instead of timer sleep please have the option to turn it on automatically in the timer of 10 min,etc. after switching it off and please make it able that a password box appears in the relevant blocked site so it can be temporally turned off easily

simple, effective and unlimited websites can be blocked freely unlike other tools. thanks for this great app

I like this extension. Can you add option for reverse timer where it turns off the blocker for a chosen time?

As the name says "simple". But also effective. And it's also not overly intrusive (it requests browsing history which is required, but it doesn't request data from sites (unlike other extensions... I'm looking at you block site).

Absolutely love this plugin. Have used it in all of my browsers across all of my computers. I keep a text file in my onedrive to cart around the block-list. Wish this was available everywhere! Only a couple Features remain to make this perfect: - Synchronization of Block List across devices. (Perhaps to a shared config folder or embedded in browner) - Allow-list to override the wider block-list. (IE, Allow certain sub-reddits, but deny everything else, or search results mistakenly getting blocked)

Works Perfect

Using the blocker with "pinterest.com, pinterest.co.uk" and all the other pinterest sites in the blocker list, I did a google search. It produced MANY pinterest web site finds. So I guess it doesn't work.

Pretty good. It would be perfect if it can have a hotkey to add the current website into blocklist, or a right button shotcut option.
