Re-enables the "Mute Tab" feature once found in Chrome itself.

Description from store
Once upon a time, Chrome had a feature hidden away in chrome://flags to allow users to mute individual tabs by clicking the speaker icon next to the tab's title. This was deemed "not good enough", as the Chrome developers wanted to remove the need for users to manually control tab audio, so it was removed in favour of the "Mute Site" feature.
Chrome can't yet automatically determine which tabs should be playing audio, so I made this extension to let the user make that decision. The button's in a different place due to Chrome API limitations, but apart from that, this extension should work exactly as the old "Mute Tab" feature did.

- (2025-06-03) zwycieza: It fits its function, it would be nice as an addition to be able to mute with some keyboard shortcut, without having to click on the extension, it would be a plus
- (2025-03-14) Zapp Maier: Perfect, simply mute tab with one click. Remains muted even if you change the tab or mute another one.
- (2025-02-23) Adeel Zafar: Just here to bump this essential extension.
- (2025-01-28) fdhjfdsdb: IF YOU ADD A FUNCTION KEY FORM CHROMES SETTINGS IT BECOMES AWSOME
- (2025-01-15) Deven Jordan: I really like how it does it's job, but I think an unintended side effect is not being able to mute tabs by right-clicking now. I have to solely use the extension, which I'm not sure if that's intended. I'll use it for now and hope it gets fixed later, but it's definitely not ideal to have to solely use this extension to mute tabs.
- (2024-11-10) Eye Heahah: Freak'n Awesome! Exactly what I needed. You can (easly) set the short cut in (chrome) extensions manager and use the key board short cut to mute individual full screen windows (this helps if you have multiple vidoe feeds and you want to mute each one separately). BIG Thank you Ash Holland! (P.S. What's another word for donkey? --Marty Bass(see comment below) is just a dumb stupid Donkey Hole who doesn't know what it's talking about.)
- (2024-11-04) Sean Gray: Works well. Just wish it wasn't a necessary extension. Wish you could put it inside the tab's right-click menu rather than in the extension menu. (I assume this is part of the API limit that you talked about in your description). Well done on nice work on this extension.
- (2024-09-29) Marty Bass: This should not be necessary. It has worked for me so far. But developers should just enable muting using the tab. The one star is for "unnecessary" .
- (2024-09-24) Chris Myers: FYI - This extension is NOT currently needed as this feature was re-added back to Google Chrome in version 100 on March 29, 2022. On Chrome versions 100-135+ you can enable it by going to "chrome://flags" and changing "#enable-tab-audio-muting" to Enabled. It's true that this flag could be removed in the future, but I think it's unlikely within the next year. You can track the status of it here: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/q/tab+audio+muting

- (2024-08-25) Gareth Williams: Working well so far, anyone else's Youtube mute button suddenly stop working properly? That's what lead me here. Not sure if Chrome or a change on Youtube's end conflicting with my uBlock configuration (again)
- (2024-06-06) Vitals: can't live without it
- (2024-06-04) Josiah Womack: I dunno ab all the negative reviews, but i've been using this extension for a while now and I haven't faced any issues or bugs. One thing I'd like to see tho is a shortcut to make it easier to mute tabs, but that's just me being lazy. otherwise 10/10 software.
- (2024-05-16) ylluminate: Works great in Chromium Ungoogled (`brew install eloston-chromium` via Homebrew on macOS). Thank you!
- (2024-05-07) Dead Kennedy: Started muting whole websites and now mutes tabs even when unselected and needs uninstalling. Chrome needs to just have a one click mute.
- (2024-03-19) Felix Schweda: No longer works with newer versions. Only mutes whole websites and not single tabs.
- (2024-03-15) Eixie Frost: Perfect for Twitch. Sad we need an extension for this. Chrome needs to do better. Thanks for the perfect addon. I am having no issues so far.
- (2024-03-07) Narc1zzz: is there any hotkey to mute/unmute? i just dont like always open extensions and clicking "Tab Muter"
- (2024-03-04) Albert Mok: Stopped working properly since last Chrome update. When I mute a tab with a Twitch Stream, all Twitch streams tabs are muted.
- (2024-03-03) Koua Lee: Great, downloaded it in less than a second and it used it the next. 10/10. Does what it's supposed to.
- (2024-03-02) Zarak Singh Sambyal: Amazing extension, even with the recent bug from google.! Hope it gets fixed but its still fully functional even with the recent bug which occurs only with group tabs and with more than 30 50 tabs open at once
- (2024-02-14) M M: Works great. A useful feature would be to add a section where site URLs can be added to automatically mute by default.
- (2024-02-13) Reiko Pugh: It sometimes automatically turns off entire Chrome's sound even when I don't touch the mute tub. It happens like on the next day. I discovered that it can be solved by disabling the extension. Audio sound gets recovered by disabling it, then I enable the extension to use it again. Could you please look into this issue? If this extension works without this problem, it is extremely helpful for me.

- (2023-03-08) kne2t3: It was working well for a while, but it's stop working consistently lately. The only way to fix it is to toggle the on/off on the extension.

- (2022-12-18) John Bond: I feel it is necessary to inform people that you need to pin the extension. This can be done by clicking on the puzzle piece icon in the upper right. Then scroll to Tab Muter and click on the pin to highlight it. Now you will have a speaker icon next to the extensions icon. (puzzle piece) Click on this on this speaker icon with the tab that you want muted open. I hope this helps.

- (2022-11-13) Joe Mullen: removed it before i realized that I still had some tabs muted, so now they're stuck muted even after I reinstalled and tried to unmute :/ Worked, but worked a little too well in my case

- (2022-10-11) SilhyGames: It used to be good, but recently I've found that it seems to crash or break far too often, usually after extended use of the browser. Always requires the browser to be closed completely and reopened. I know it's probably minor, but I don't know, I just don't like my extensions having lifespans, I guess.

- (2022-08-01) Fiona Marley: The plug-in keeps getting corrupted and crashing my browser. I have tried "repairing" it through Chrome's repair function, but it still is causing problems for me. It worked well when it worked, but unfortunately it's not working for me.
