Scrollbars that match Windows 7's native appearance.

Image from store Win7 Scrollbars
Description from store Newer versions of Chrome have replaced the system native scrollbars with a new design that, among other things, lacks the arrow buttons. This extension restores the scrollbars to the native Windows 7 appearance, including restoring the arrow buttons. *** FAQs and Common Problems *** * Why does Chrome warn that Win7 Scrollbars can "access my data on all websites"? Are you tracking me? No. Win7 Scrollbars does NOT "access your data," do any tracking, talk to any servers, or do any other nefarious thing you can think of. It is implemented in 100% CSS; it contains no JavaScript; and it does not access any external resources. It does only one thing: restyle the scrollbars. And it does that entirely locally, on your computer. Chrome is providing this warning because CSS is technically able to do other things, such as add and remove content from pages that you view. Win7 Scrollbars doesn't do that, but Chrome has no way of knowing that, so it provides the warning out of an abundance of caution. * This doesn't work with drop-down menus. That's correct. As far as I know, it is not possible to fix these with an extension. * This doesn't work with URLs beginning with chrome://, with Chrome's built-in PDF viewer, or with Chrome's developer tools. Unfortunately, extensions do not have access to these areas of Chrome. * This doesn't work with URLs beginning with file://. It does ... but you have to enable it. Open Chrome's menu and go to Tools / Extensions, or simply type chrome://extensions in the address bar. Look for Win7 Scrollbars, and check the box that says "Allow access to file URLs." * This doesn't work in Chrome's incognito mode. It does ... but you have to enable it. Open Chrome's menu and go to Tools / Extensions, or simply type chrome://extensions in the address bar. Look for Win7 Scrollbars, and check the box that says "Allow in incognito."

  • (2025-05-25) Jump with the Devil: Almost perfect! I didn't like the recent browser update replacing the generic Windows scrollbar with a "Mac-ified" or mobile looking one--thin, with rounded corners. While it looks alright, it's bad for usability since it doesn't show you the area where you can click to scroll, and no buttons appear when you click the up/down arrows, just changes the triangles' size. This extension works so well, this is even better than what I had before! This is the GOAT Windows 7 scrollbar, even better than Windows 10 one. My only (very minor) gripe is the rectangle bar image (what you click on to scroll) lacks a proper border on the top and bottom. It looks like someone cropped the jpg. I don't know if this is actually possible to fix or not, but just putting it out there. Anyway, I highly recommend this extension regardless.
  • (2025-05-17) Marco Galvez: Please fix the borders, i really love the addon, and i will give it 5 stars the moment it's fixed
  • (2025-05-13) Rayna Kuzio: What a throwback! Thanks!!
  • (2025-01-25) David Trout: This WAS a great extension! I loved it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work any longer. :( Maybe it's the new version of Chrome? Or maybe it's the new version of Supermium? I don't know. But unfortunately it is no longer working for me. If it still worked, I'd give it 5 stars! But since it no longer does, I can only give it 3. That's sad, since it WAS such a great extension! I *loved* it during the time it still worked.

  • (2024-08-29) Savannah: This was a really good extension! Appears on every site, and while it can look a bit awkward on some sites like the browser version of Discord, that's not the fault of this extension, lol. Unfortunately though, after a few weeks of using it, it just recently has been causing Status_Errors when Googling (so like you can Google things, but then if you tried to adjust the search in the Google bar--not the URL bar--or tried to click the images tab, it would just show a Status_Error). Such a shame as I really loved this extension! But it unfortunately made Google nearly unusable :(
  • (2024-08-11) ANP Kindle: The scrollbar itself will appear on nearly every site I visit aside from youtube, so that's nice (if it doesn't appear at first after you install it, reload your pages!) The arrows only appear on some sites, which I find odd, but when they do, it looks very cool. I don't know how they originally worked, having never used Windows, but basically if you click an arrow it'll automatically scooch your page up or down a tiny bit, which is pretty cool. I had to go into manage extensions to turn this one on since apparently chrome doesn't like it much anymore. Hopefully this extension will be updated so it doesn't get completely disabled, or someone will write a similar one that does adhere to guidelines. I will enjoy as long as it lasts <3

  • (2024-02-05) Rotten Ray: 1 Star ONLY because at the time of writing (05.02.2024) Newest Chrome update disabled the scrollbars working in Youtube, can you please fix this? (Will update the review if this is fixed :) )

  • (2023-09-27) Douglas Gaspar: A fix for the scrollbar getting cut-off on the extremities: Download the extension archive, unzip it somewhere. Then open scrollbars.css on notepad++ and right at the top there will be 7 lines starting with ::webkit. Go right to the end of the 5th line (-webkit-scrollbar-thumb) and add "border-style: solid !important;" without quotes. Then save and add it as an unpacked extension to Chrome (there are guides online). This fix worked for me everywhere but on YouTube for some reason. But YouTube is cursed anyway and a lot of stuff break on it's own there so I'll have to eat that. The more technical explanation courtesy of the Mozilla web docs: "Note: You should specify a separate border-style in case the border image fails to load. Although the specification doesn't strictly require it, some browsers don't render the border image if border-style is none or border-width is 0." Chrome must have changed behavior at some point.

  • (2022-05-13) G6JPG: Great - I've got my scroll arrows back in YouTube, where I missed them most! However, it _doesn't_ work on https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/win7-scrollbars/cifcnoebhbpdndjendfkpehpfbglgfkc/related - i. e. its own page, such as the one you're reading right now!

  • (2022-01-01) iisi “IIsi 50MHz” ø: On Win10 with Google Chrome 99.0.4801.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit), the thumb (slider that shows current position) is missing the top and bottom bitmaps. This makes it look like somebody chopped the top and bottom of the slider off.

  • (2021-04-06) mary birder: I know this thread is old, but---My problem started while on You Tube, where I spend a lot of time. The arrow keys disappeared on the right side, which enable me to easily move up and down. I had installed some extensions to try to revert back to classic Facebook and I believe that was when the scroll arrow keys disappeared for me AND was unable to revert back to original FB. After spending hours trying to get MY arrows back on the right side, all I had to do was uninstall the FB extensions. Hope this saves someone all the time spent getting the arrow buttons back! Remember---uninstall any new extensions, one at a time, to help solve your arrow problems. I can't be the only frustrated person who had to solve this problem on their own. Good luck!
