LIMITATIONS
Sprucemarks can be used alongside other bookmark extensions but you must be careful that both extensions do not try to sort the same areas. Each extension may have its own sorting logic which may lead to endless sorting as each extension reacts to changes by the other.
LIMITATIONS FOR CHROME
Chrome may display bookmarks out of order if you have a mix of local and synced bookmarks. To avoid this issue, use only local or synced bookmarks, not both.

Great tool, super-appreciate it. If was possible to eventually add option to also auto-sort Chrome's native-Tab Groups alphabetically, that would be amazing--glad to help w/some of my rudimentary coding skills if project is accessible on GitHub or somewhere, and was given some basic instructions i might be able to execute...thanks for the great tool.

I just started using this and I am loving the duplicates and empty folder removal. Would love to see a Select All feature.
This addresses one of the biggest pain points with Chrome. The UX for sorting bookmarks in Chrome is terrible since it requires you to descend into multiple options windows each time you add a bookmark. Firefox can at least sort folders on demand using the context menu, which reduces this to a single click, but an auto-sorter removes even this hurdle! Genius.

Oct 2024: Confused because there's no progress to show if sorting has begun or finished. I have over 37k bookmarks. Too many to leave auto-sort on all the time, so I'll look for an on-demand one that will tell me when the sort has completed. Jan 2020: Wow. Suddenly an extension jumps from free opensource to $7. Even past Patreon subscribers are blocked if they don't reach the $7 minimum. I only sorted my bookmarks once. I don't remember if it was this or another sorter that worked best, but I certainly won't be paying $7 to find out. I can understand a moving to a paid model when significantly upgrading but don't retire the old free one and don't suddenly deactivate the old one. Nasty.

Yes! This sorts bookmarks by date! Clear interface, works fast.

Works for Brave just fine (sort by newest date). Make sure to include "Other bookmarks" folder. Why brave doesn't have this as a native feature is beyond me.

When Sprucemarks switched to a Patreon subscription model, I switched to SuperSorter. Unfortunately for me, SuperSorter added a requirement this week to grant it access to my browsing history. Therefore, I uninstalled SuperSorter. While looking for yet another option for bookmark sorting, I discovered that Sprucemarks no longer requires a Patreon account to work. Yay! I'm back on Sprucemarks — and loving it! It's by far the best and easiest to configure bookmark-sorter that I've tried. And during the past year or so while I was away, Kai has really improved the extension's user interface. It's better than it ever was. I happily donated two bubble teas (using PayPal and NOT Patreon) to Kai. Thank you Kai!

Seems you need to have a Patreon account before it'll even let you demo/trial the software. It's probably great, but no thanks.

"Offers in-app purchases" pretty sure there are a million other tools that can do exactly what this can, dont let the TERRIBLE/SUSPICIOUS search functionality for the Chrome Web Store get in your way when it only shows promoted and subscription hungry extensions like this get in your way. search on google: "site:chrome.google.com bookmarks sort date" (without quotes) and I guarantee that you'll find at least 20 extensions better than this that are free with developers who actually should be making extensions.
