Image from store rikaikun
Description from store As a Japanese dictionary, rikaikun helps you look up the only the words you don't know without losing your place. It's also useful for Japanese speakers wanting to know how to say Japanese phrases in English. Features: * Using shift or enter, switch between word, names, and Kanji dictionaries. * Enable text to speech in the options to hear Japanese words you look up spoken out load. * Press 'c' to copy the current word and definitions to the clipboard for making flash cards. * Customize how the pop up dictionary looks and what content it shows. Activate the extension by clicking the 理 icon in the top right. When the introductory pop up appears, rikaikun is ready for action. When it's activated, when you hover over Japanese words they'll be translated in a pop up. If you hit shift/enter, you'll see some information about the first Kanji. Press 'd' to hide the English definitions; press it again to bring them back. (Also changeable on the Options page.) Changelog: https://github.com/melink14/rikaikun/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md

  • (2024-07-13) MrLeung99: This is very useful but does anyone know how I can enable this extension by default when I launch Chrome? Now everytime I must click on the icon so it's "On"
  • (2023-10-11) Ioan Jivan: I love it, but I can't find a way to make it start when I start the browser.
  • (2023-08-31) highwizard: Could have more languages besides english. I have to use the translator anyway, so it's not useful.
  • (2023-04-18) Anthony Guillo: Doesn't work at all...But maybe we need to do something about settings but not information about it so useless.
  • (2023-03-22) しらゆき_: 要是能有日语的解释(而不是英语)就好了,更贪婪地说,想要可以导入辞典的功能
  • (2023-02-01) マリオニク ちゃん(Marionic酱): We need Chinese. 我们需要中文。 中国語が必要です。
  • (2022-11-21) Richard Lee: I have to click the icon every time to turn it on. Can it automatically turned on or always on? 每次都要點圖示才能啟用,可以一直開著嗎?
  • (2022-11-20) Amelia SH: This extension is perfect but I notice some bugs: 1. It gets on the way whatever japanese text I am typing exp when the cursor is near the text 2. It often turns on the "hide definitions and show only reading" by itself. It's not like there is shortcut to it, right??
  • (2022-11-18) Nonthawit Sudhisongkroh: Love the app. but keyboard shortcut without clicking the icon would be super useful. Thank you.
  • (2022-09-26) Flower Ss: 这个插件太强了!希望能追加中文!
  • (2022-09-04) Moebits: Good for reading difficult Japanese words on the fly, but not that great for studying to put words into your long-term memory because there is no integration with Anki (AnkiConnect). If you can add Anki integration I would use this over Yomichan since the popup design is prettier.
  • (2022-06-20) Waris Ruzi: I use this extension on a daily basis. It's extremely handy, and I enjoy it.
  • (2022-05-20) C K: 什麼都沒有跑出來啊…
  • (2022-03-30) Milena Krzemińska: cool but maybe pls change the color of the english translations like i mean the text color because it blends w the blue background and i hardly can read it
  • (2022-03-30) Jonathan B: I love this extension. Its super helpful. If you could get it to work on PDF files while in chrome, that would take away my only complaint.
  • (2022-03-15) Rumi Hira: Thank you for making wonderful tool. I always introduce this function to Japanese Teacher who teach student with dyslexia. It works great.
  • (2022-03-08) Fabien Correge: I really love the extension. It looks like it uses JMdict under the hood, which makes its translations consistent with many other learning tools. However, I have not been able to use it today on google Doc. I don't know whether this is because of an update from either Rikaikun or google, or just because of an issue on my end. Hopefully the issue will be fixed in the future, or will fix itself if my environment's to blame. Great tool anyaway.
  • (2022-02-28) Elkie Chan: Is it possible to enable text-to-speech, not automatically, but when I press a key? This is so it only pronounces the word when I want it to. Best is if the pronunciation could be repeated when my cursor is pointing at the word.
  • (2022-02-04) Petar Radojevic: Pretty useful extension. For some reason, it won't let me translate phrases after a comma, so I'm forced to delete commas in sentences to use rikaikun to translate a word. Fixing this issue would be good for user experience.
  • (2022-01-10) Akira Wang: I really really really love it, but sometimes it cannot be used, any tip to fix that?
  • (2021-11-21) ZdrytchX de Frisquilous: No longer works on legacy versions of chrome before version ~90 or so. The way this extension works is that you need to click the icon to enable it, then hover over the kanji/kana that you want to read and provides several potential readings up to 4 character long or so. Very straightforward and does the job well.
  • (2021-10-10) Lee Sommerfeldt: Helpful, but they should allow users to bind the keys. When a page is full of text with nowhere to put your mouse and the Enter key is stuck shifting the dictionaries, it's infuriating. Please allow users to change the controls.
  • (2021-09-14) Mustafa Ege Gürel: It's great! Very useful extension.
  • (2021-08-30) Emily Lee: very good
  • (2021-08-22) Tumi: This is an absolute lifesaver. While I wish there was a slightly more comprehensive tutorial and list of commands in the options menu (I only discovered the names dictionary after coming back to the store page many months later), it does everything it needs to do and packs in so much functionality! While there are possibly some other quality of life changes that could be made, I don't think I can give this any less than 5*, especially seeing as it's totally free!
  • (2021-08-06) kashinath panta: 素晴らしいツールです。しかもPDFファイルでも操作ができればともっと助かります。
  • (2021-07-11) Lily Liu: Absolutely amazing tool that made my life many times easier. However I think a font colour option would be helpful since the contrast is not ideal.
  • (2021-07-09) JT: Only seems to work for Japanese websites, not Japanese text across the web in general; i.e. - doesn't translate if you're on an English site that uses Japanese text.
  • (2021-06-29) Firo Yang: Love it!!! Very useful!!! Japanese salvation.
  • (2021-06-28) van i7as: 除了加入英语翻译之外,能不能加入中文翻译啊?
  • (2021-06-21) je faus: It's AMAZING! but saldly to make it work u have to install it and uninstall it over and over again cause IT WILL STOP WORKING after 1 o 2 days without any reason, and it's always the same, it works for 1 day or 2 and then it stops, so, 1 star for the idea! 0 star for the bad programming of the app! :/
  • (2021-06-08) Mainichinopia: I love this!! It has helped me a lot while reading Twitter and other websites in Japanese. The best part is you can check in a fast and easy way the reading of the word you want and at the same time, see the English definition so is a great way to learn kanji and vocabulary. Thank you for creating this!!! I always recommend this extension to other Japanese learners.
  • (2021-06-07) 津路水炮900ml: way too convenient to be true
  • (2021-05-28) Michael Rose: I really like this extension, but it sometimes stops showing the English translations, so I have to remove the extension and then add it back again. This happens every couple weeks. ;(
  • (2021-05-26) Claude Slater: Is good but doesn't seem to work with certain fonts.
  • (2021-04-21) Sailor Katana: Seriously the best Japanese learning extension I've ever used. It makes everything easier to study. Thank you so much!
  • (2021-04-20) Hannah B: Doesn't work. Nothing is happening.
  • (2021-04-02) Mike Slides: nice
  • (2021-03-05) ゴンザレズジョセフ: great but would be better if: -they'd remove the pinyin entries -make it so "画像" doesn't pop up when you scroll over an image
  • (2021-02-21) Nigel Lim: Makes it really easy to go through a kanji heavy page. Thanks a million!
  • (2021-02-08) Madison Jane: I love this extension, I've used it for years and it's helped me study so much. Big thank you to the creator <3
  • (2021-01-30) Moisés Magaldi: melhor que tem, pena que só tem versão em inglês, mas o tradutor do google consegue traduzir.
  • (2021-01-25) adrian verdugo: se vee muy interesante, ayuda muchisimo a la hora de aprender. ありがとうございました
  • (2021-01-22) 馮名逸: 非常方便的擴充程式
  • (2020-12-01) Justin Bacon: Rikaikun has been a life saver for over a decade. I do have one problem... Recently it keeps resetting the highlight text setting, which is really annoying when you're trying to fill out a form and the text boxes keep losing focus. Not sure why this suddenly started happening, but it's the only problem I've ever had with the extension since it was first released.
  • (2020-11-30) Maja Košutić: This is amazing!(I would only work on adding popular authors’ and historical figures' names and book titles etc. to the database) (Also, when I try to copy paste with my keyboard, the extension bubble shows up, because I press SHIFT A or SHIFT V and then ENTER) Otherwise, this add-on saves lives. Thank you so much for the effort of making it!
  • (2020-11-21) CowFroggers: Works Great But How I wish it had Romji like RikaiChamp has for FireFox, O well I don't use chrome much anyways. ツ
  • (2020-11-12) baby bang: very comfortable but sometime meaning not show how do I do. I try to enter/shift but not work
  • (2020-11-08) Legoshi _: é uma ferramenta muito útil para ler textos em japonês, tem de saber ler em inglês também, mas isso não é culpa dos desenvolvedores podia haver em outros idiomas, seria bom
  • (2020-09-18) dekhadmai: this is the best chrome extension i ever installed in my life. seriously. both in term of usefulness and quality. thank you very much.
