Using this extension you can strip clutters from webpages and read them on "Reader View" mode. The extension allows you to toggle between normal view and reader view by pressing the page-action button. Note that reader view mode works best for web pages that have a lot of content. There are some tools in the left side panel that can help you personalize your Reader View. You can change color, background-color, font-size, font-family and width of the reader view. Features: -> Remove distraction -> Read in fullscreen mode -> Remove advertisements -> Save in HTML format -> Print document -> Read content using a powerful Text to Speech (TTS) engine -> Edit HTML content (live editor) -> Email document (with title, body, and reference to the original document) -> Correctly display mathematical formulas (MathJax equations are Supported) -> Highlight selected text -> Move to the next and previous pages -> Keyboard shortcuts for almost all actions -> Resize images on the design-mode -> Display DOI (Digital Object Identifier) details -> Display publish date For more info please visit: http://add0n.com/chrome-reader-view.html Change Log: 0.1.3: Calling a reader view by restoring it from history will trigger history.back 0.1.4: A more visible icon. Also at the bottom, fix button is not working. and some letters incompatible with neibour others in words and it looks very ugly and do not look nice when printed. Example: consider "until" word, it shows "unt" part bold and rest "il" is regular. why ? I didn't understand. Also chosen fonts not contain turkish letters, so that it seems like kidnapper notes. Also can you diversify/enrich the sound of speech. It is frequently stop, again and again push play when headers came. You must more develop it.
  • (2025-06-15) Gljeb Markovic-Todoric: One of the BEST!! Simple and powerful.
  • (2025-06-06) Mr Dawson: This is perfect and a great example of an amazing extension. There is another that wants you to sign up an account but WHY? This IS the reader extension we all want and need. 5 stars.
  • (2025-05-20) VT: Still the best one! Private. Work most of the time (though dates/author are missing sometime)
  • (2025-05-15) Mathew Robinson: The extension I didn't know I was missing. Makes the reading experience on the web 10/10
  • (2025-05-02) xianmo tan: Chrome plugin 0.82, the title part cannot be displayed normally, only "Unknown Title" is displayed? How can this problem be solved?
  • (2025-05-01) Nishyank Patel: Dark mode or manually choosing any background colour would be better option than default beige colour background. it's too bright when using at low light room.
  • (2025-04-21) Cat: This works really well, I have been using it for years. It helps me be able to focus on what I am reading and gets rid of distractions.
  • (2025-03-25) Jyoti Shankar: I've tried almost all of the Chrome extensions for removing clutter while reading, and Reader View outshines them all. It has made reading on the web so much more enjoyable and painless. I am able to adjust background and text colors, font, line height, and pretty much everything with CSS. I also use the 8 well-designed light and dark mode settings without tweaking the CSS. The design mode helps me scrub unwanted elements from articles before printing. (For those complaining about the lack of a dark-mode below, please take a look at the settings/options that the extension provides. You can make endless customizations.) A big thank you to the generous author who released this extension and actively responds to questions on Github and on the webextension.org site.
  • (2025-03-04) Clairetta Anderson: This reader extension is what I was looking for. It won't work with all web pages. The beige color is easy to read, but I would have liked to be able to choose a color I like. Even a dark page, with white writing would be helpful.
  • (2025-02-02) Paul B.: Very good! I wish it would operate without changing the address bar, because doing so prevents copying the url for sharing and prevents my save as .mht extension from working on the page.

  • (2025-01-26) AUNG KHAING TUN: Highly recommended it. Outstanding!
  • (2025-01-23) Daniel: Unable to customize shortcuts, which is conflicting with my browser.
  • (2025-01-19) Thiago Araujo: The only one I've found really good so far!
  • (2025-01-05) Smitzi: super
  • (2024-12-23) Aashutosh: Good, using it for years now.
  • (2024-12-21) John Mutch: This Reader Rocks! It has a rhythm once you get on the page as it takes you a little time to get the view to start. I have tried others and this seem to work WELL, exceptionally well!!
  • (2024-12-10) WIM: what's the point of a reader view if you can't even choose basic things like background color? why is there no option for pure white with black text???
  • (2024-12-06) Mad Hunter: Powerful and easy to use
  • (2024-11-24) Ruslan K: Clean and powerful
  • (2024-11-23) Eduard Kotlyar: One of the best extensions in its category
  • (2024-11-09) Green Greenieee: 8:30 AM Hi, I use this application a lot to turn stories that posted in forum into books, but recent update kinda broke it for me. Before it only show the page with story content that I need. Now each comment of the topic is considered a page, so there are just a lot of extra pages that I don't need, and I am forced to turn pages a lot. Please return the old paging method. Thank you.
  • (2024-11-09) Adam Smith: I came here looking for an alternative to Omnivore , a read later app that will shut down by this December. That's a very nice alternative that seems to do more than what Omnivore did , especially with the design mode being some sort of a "mini-Microsoft Word" mode . I just wish however to make some recommendations for improvements : )More Rich text format options (Underlining , strikethrough , etc). )More colors for the Highlighter. )More fonts )Adding comment boxes For people who just started to annotate websites and save them as single-file HTML document : It's very capable and will likely satisfy most people's needs.
  • (2024-11-09) Paul P (Kalian): I never leave reviews but this extension has been so useful. It cuts out the ads shown when I click news articles, reduces visual clutter, AND it has a read aloud function.
  • (2024-11-08) Another Planet’s Hell: No idea what's happened to this thing. Since the latest update (I think the one that added a selection of fonts), this extension no longer honors my custom CSS rules. What a shame. Update: Uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Uninstalling permanently now and looking for an alternative.
  • (2024-11-08) Mike: thank you ! works as intented. simple, fast and straight forward but also has features to be much more! huge upgrade from the built-in reader mode that Chrome has.
  • (2024-11-07) Bano: Perfect for now, thank you for this amazing Extension, keep it up the great Work behind it :)
  • (2024-10-26) Antonio Aguilar: I just found Readers View Extension about 20 minutes ago and I'm already in love. I've always wanted to be able to interact with a webpage "live" and do more than just read. All the features I ever wished for are included. This is fantastic. Thanks for creating this.
  • (2024-10-25) N.: Perfect for now
  • (2024-10-24) The Perfect Will: Out of the box this better than any web browser "Reader" that I've ever used. The option to have simple view and customize some of the text to bold or underline, etc., and then save it as a HTML Doc is great! This rread is great for simple screenshotting of the page content as well (which I do for sharing Christian devotionals). But also in the more customizations available it seems pretty awesome for more advanced customizations, and for developers for viewing local files (I noticed). So I give 5 stars for me in general, and that others might come upon the other customization options, and can star based on their expierence.
  • (2024-10-23) Hassibi: Really, It's the best extension for reading.
  • (2024-10-21) Drew Estes: This extension is fantastic — clean, quick, very functional, and very customizable. Loaded with nice features. I use it to switch all my articles to Dark Mode, and since it lets you customize the text side and formatting, it now sets any article to my exact preferences with one click. No more autoplaying videos or other distractions. The "read aloud" option is a little robotic but still better than the native Mac reader, and only takes one click to activate. It also shows you each sentence it's reading as it goes, so it's easy to follow along. I've paid for Pocket premium and their read aloud feature doesn't even do that.
  • (2024-09-30) RayRayRay Tan: I just downloaded and tried the plugin. It's fast. Arguably faster than invoking reader mode on Safari. Happy that such an extension exists.
  • (2024-09-23) *: Works for me.
  • (2024-09-23) *: Works for me.
  • (2024-09-22) Alan Rempel: Outstanding. Very customizable; smooth as honey; fragrant as olive oil.
  • (2024-09-02) Erica Colin: This extension works well, but looks very similar to the Reading List button in Chrome. I've accidentally hit it many times while trying to add a website to my reading list. The icon should be updated to avoid confusion.
  • (2024-07-24) hassel huespe: I use this extension to save tech support documents in extremely lightweight HTML. Truly excelent extension.
  • (2024-07-24) Amr AbdelKhalek: Full control over text size, font, page width and more. Bionic Reading available! Excellent Extension!
  • (2024-07-23) Tuan Zi: can I change to my pc installed fonts?
  • (2024-06-27) Jerry Suppan: I love this extension. It is very useful for saving educational and informational resources to my personal knowledge reference database. I appreciate the ability to save highlights, notes, and other such annotations and save to html, and/or print to pdf for my information database reference library. Issues: * The reader does not always include article photos in reader view mode. * Does not have the ability to display white/off-white colored text on solid black background. *Recommendation multiple highlight colors besides just yellow. I also agree with the review posted by @Parth Sarsavadiya to have the ability to distill an article by being able to summarize highlighed parts of an article or essay into a concise summary. There is a extension, 'Highligher' that allows you to (copy all highlights of an article to paste elsewhere but unfortunately as an extension it will not function within another extension except to copy and paste into Reader View. I'm a bit concerned a well Reader View has not seen any further development impreviements since 2023. ( 240627)

  • (2024-03-24) Varnit Professional: New review (2024) - BUG - TTS system seems to be broken. Voices jitters and cannot read properly as humans and voices do. Problem with all voices. Hey dev, loved the addon improved a lot but then bugs are still there. Right now, I'm talking about the bug of not reading the headline or title of the blog post. The TTS reading starts from the content not the heading. Please look into this. On firefox and librewolf browser, your addon struggles to work. Please also look into this. Older review (2023) - When I started using reader view addon few years ago, it was less buggy and worked flawlessly but now it is buggy and not working as it was intended. The reader view of the page is broken, takes only 50 percent of the text and rest is missing. In TTS mode, it doesn't read the title or bullet points or wherever points exists (for example take any page from site https://www.healthline.com/). Also when using TTS, the popup of the voice, speed and lang. doesn't open up or minimize properly. The lack of fonts out of the box from settings is disappointing. If dev is really updating this addon constantly, please check the problems both for chrome and firefox users. Usable but very problematic. No updates yet for the bugs and issues.
