FAQ
*** What is an adblocker? ***
An ad blocker is a tool that prevents advertisements from appearing while you browse the internet. It works by detecting and blocking requests from known ad servers, stopping banners, pop-ups, video ads, and other types of online advertising from loading. Ad blockers can also improve page load times and enhance privacy by reducing tracking from ad networks.
*** What is a tracker blocker? ***
A tracker blocker is a tool that stops websites and third parties from collecting data about your online behavior. It blocks tracking scripts and cookies that monitor what you do across the web - like the pages you visit, what you click on, or what you buy. By blocking trackers, it helps protect your privacy and can even speed up browsing.
*** Does Ghostery Tracker & Ad Blocker work on Youtube? ***
Yes, Ghostery Tracker & Ad Blocker works on YouTube by blocking ads and trackers that load with videos. While some video ads may still slip through due to platform changes, Ghostery continuously updates its Chrome Ad Blocker technology to improve your experience and protect your privacy, even on sites like YouTube.

Latest reviews
- (2025-09-15) Sukuna: excellent extension , works flawlessly on firefox but in chrome it is unable to block much
- (2025-09-14) Google User: It's a good uBlock alternative. Ghostery has recently greatly improved but lacks ability to block ads or annoyances within the context menu. But you can add custom filters in the settings. In the past I wouldn't use it due to it's poor blocking but now it's really good. However, it still lacks the manual "picking" of annoyances that disturbs your browsing experience. Additionally, Ghostery has issues on Outlook Live (Hotmail) it doesn't block the annoying spam mail by Microsoft that always shows up as the first email. Adguard used to block this too, currently only uBlock still does. Latest version allows you to add custom scripts (use AI) and block them permanently. Reputable independent analyses have highlighted that the extension no longer effectively blocks ads on YouTube, leading to a considerable number of uninstalls. On the other hand, there are still a few extensions that manage to block YouTube ads, at least for the time being. Adguard, Malwarebytes, and uBlock Origin are some alternatives worth considering. However, Malwarebytes significantly slows down the browsing experiences in my personal experience. If I need robust protection now that uBlock is killed, I'll use the slower Adguard. But for casual to moderate adblocking and removing annoyances, I will use Ghostery. Peace.
- (2025-09-13) Luke Wells: Works so well, I can forget it exists
- (2025-09-13) Julius Rabbito (Jules): it does not block a single facebook ad and does not have thye option to manually block it like UBO had
- (2025-09-12) Google User: It's a good uBlock alternative. Not sure how it compares to uBlock Lite though. Ghostery has recently greatly improved but lacks ability to block ads or annoyances within the context menu or anywhere via the extension. I wouldn't use it in the past due to it's poor blocking but now it's really good. This extension, like uBlock fails to block the persistent pop-ups that annoy users on many sites by insisting they disable their ad blocker. Furthermore, the extension allows many trackers through and categorizes them as "essential," which undermines its purpose. - (2025-09-11) killer beans man amogus: very simple, very good. protects from all trackers
- (2025-09-11) Леонид Гончаров (Udolda): well done devs
- (2025-09-11) Shaun Carter: I have been testing Ghostery for a while, but it is not as effective as I would like. The user interface is clean and easy to use, and I like that it blocks trackers, adverts, and pop-up cookie alerts. Having Ghostery completely free and unlimited is also good. However, there are some problems. Some websites do not work or display properly if pop-up cookie alerts are blocked, so I have to allow all cookie alerts to appear. Ghostery does not block adverts in Youtube or Facebook, and Youtube detects Ghostery and refuses to play videos unless I disable Ghostery. Also, there is no way to turn off Ghostery on all websites easily - sometimes I need to disable Ghostery on all websites, but the only way to do is to go through the settings menu in Chrome.
- (2025-09-11) Adam Elbaz: For a free service it really surprised me how well it works, never getting pop ups on fim streaming websiites, or getting flooded with ad on the side of a website. never failed me in the years of using it
- (2025-09-11) Pratyush: one of the best ad blockers I've ever used

- (2025-09-09) Eric Crittenden (KingShear): I am so tired of being tracked all the time and this is a great app to stop that!
- (2025-09-08) Bullshit Namehere: Turning it off does not turn it off. Cannot use this, it causes problems absolutely everywhere I need it turned off. Shopping is impossible until uninstalled. Do not recommend.
- (2025-09-08) lucia youtz: Only one that worked for me on hulu
- (2025-09-07) Antrikkos Kanenas: What can I say? Really, really too good to be true!
- (2025-09-07) Kajonsak B.: I’ve been using Ghostery for a while now and it’s honestly one of the better privacy-focused ad blockers out there. Pages load faster, clutter is gone, and I like that it actually shows me which trackers are being blocked in the background. The interface is clean and simple, not overloaded with settings but still gives you control if you want it. It feels lightweight compared to some other blockers I’ve tried. Overall, it makes browsing smoother and a lot more private. Definitely worth keeping on Chrome if you care about your data and don’t want ads following you around everywhere.
- (2025-09-07) Manish Gupta: I've been using this forever. truly does what it says and allows me to simply use chrome without any hassel wondering whose siphoning my data! Thanks to the guys behind it! Highly recommended!
- (2025-09-06) Sean Hages: thank you for blocking ads on youtube. i appreciate that you're always making ghostery better and finding ways to block stuff i dont want to see
- (2025-09-06) KaoticDude: I love Ghostery but Youtube is recognizing it now.
- (2025-09-05) George Genco: Why would anyone NOT like an extension that blocks ads and unknown redirects? I "can't" visit some Google Sponsored ads because of this. I learned that it seemed to redirect me to another page WHICH still wasn't where I was trying to go!! This was wasting my time and it shares my info somewhere else it shouldn't be. Now I skip the sponsored ads and go straight to the page I wanted with minimal tracking. I say Win Win!
- (2025-09-05) Brian Gale: Ghostery has been a wonderful, silent guard. It's always shocking to see how many trackers it blocks.
- (2025-09-04) Rose Merchant: Works incredibly well. This is the single best ad-blocker I've ever used.
- (2025-09-02) Klaus Hesselberg (Harddrive): Help protect me
- (2025-09-02) Dhana Rizky: Simple and lightweight.
- (2025-08-30) Mark Scott: so far been using for a month and its perfect! youtube is watchable again!
- (2025-08-30) Athul: I would always pick Ghostery over any other ad blockers for its simplicity and efficacy in blocking all ads without charging any premium price.
- (2025-08-28) Aditya Kapde: Best multi-use extension I have came so far on browser 👍
- (2025-08-28) Bolaji Simbiat: excellent work, Best ad blocker ever
- (2025-08-27) Aman Lol: Actually works and does what it claims although doesn't blocks ads very well.
- (2025-08-27) Lovish Jain: Best plugin to avoid unauthorized access to your data without any consent. I love it. Will contribute to their github repo in any way i can.
- (2025-08-27) Ashton Marie Smith: This is not blocking yt ads i do not recommend it for anyone anymore
- (2025-08-26) Greg Donworth: The internet is a dark place! Ghostery helps make it a bit safer.
- (2025-08-24) Juanma Pinkus: Blocks everything, even YouTube and also has the plus of keeping you a little bit more on the private side of things. Amazing!!
- (2025-08-24) Vedansh: Works like you want it to. Made using the internet much less annoying
- (2025-08-23) Suzuma: pretty decent
- (2025-08-23) crazedinkblot: Ghostery is great when it works consistency. I've noticed that it will occasionally stop working on YT. The fix I use is to close YT, remove the extension from Chrome, add Ghostery back and then reopen YT.
- (2025-08-22) Matt: not blocking yt ads
- (2025-08-22) Jayriel Aponte: Best ad blocker out on this planet.
- (2025-08-21) S K: Until now, Ghostery has been excellent for watching old movies on YouTube but now I'm getting hit with ads as if I had no add-on ad blocker software. Sadly, I can't change my browser and chrome does have a corner on the market for users like me. I know all the browsers but this is a fairly old desktop and gets bogged down with those browsers. Well, I'll have to use one of my laptops and see what's happening there. Our power went out a few times from very bad weather and Ghostery stopped working. I'd love to give it a 5 for the last 6 months to a years but now it's down with YouTube.
- (2025-08-21) Alex: Prevents ads on Youtube which is something I am forever grateful for, and does a much better job than Adblock pro. The internet would be much more annoying with out it.
- (2025-08-21) pete: ghostery works better and is more reliable than adblock and adblock plus which I was using, and would recommend it.
- (2025-08-20) Retardoskop YT: Don't use ghosters! It's malware that infects your system with various analyzers etc. Check its files via CRX manager! It's funny that an extension that pretends to be a protector injects infected Google analytics functions into all open pages... really funny..
- (2025-08-18) C.A.T. Smith: Best ad blocker I have found. Very simple and easy to use. It does an outstanding job.
- (2025-08-17) Aydan Temple: Best ad blocker Never have to pay and it helps me from not being tracked
- (2025-08-16) Eratas: Amazing. But I do not recommend activating "never consent" because it can break some sites, instead you should use consent o matic to auto accept or reject some cookies.
- (2025-08-15) Michelle Joshua: Nice, so good
- (2025-08-13) Marc-Antoine Daoust: Doesn't work at all
- (2025-08-13) Jeff Helgeson: Love it! Works like a charm.
- (2025-08-12) Varun bajaj: Very good
