Image from store Open in Firefox
Description from store "Open in Firefox" extension opens the current tab or links inside the current tab in the Firefox browser from the right-click context menu, toolbar button, or even left-clicking on a link with and without a modifier. This extension eases the link transferring between the different browsers. There is no need to copy a link from one browser to the OS clipboard and paste it into another browser. Features: Open a hostname in Firefox Open a specific URL in Firefox Open all URLs with a specific keyword in Firefox Close the tab when a link is transferred (Optional) Do not block left-click action when a link is transferred (Optional) Support managed storage to configure the extension from the administration panel If a Firefox browser is opened, the extension opens the link in a new browser tab. If no open instance of the Firefox browser is detected, a new Firefox window is opened. Using this extension, you can define custom URLs or hostnames to be directly sent to the Firefox browser from the options page. Also, it is possible to close the source tab when the link transfer is successful. This way for instance you can view a particular host in the Firefox browser, although Chrome is your main browser. Important Notes: 1. For this extension to open links in the Firefox browser you will need to install a minimal native client. The instruction to install the native client is displayed once a link opening is requested. There are two short video tutorials in the screenshot section for both Windows and Linux or Mac operation systems if you want to see the installation steps of the native client. 2. This extension supports managed storage which means some preferences can be configured by the domain administrator 3. This extension can send links on left-click, a combination of the left-click and a keyboard meta key, and top-level navigation 4. At the moment, there is no version available for Chrome OS. Legal: Firefox is a trademark of Mozilla Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. This extension is an independent project and has no relationship to the Firefox team or Mozilla Inc.

  • (2021-08-12) R.A. de Hosson: Doesn't work anymore after update to 0.4.0 on Windows. Did work on previous version. Please fix.
  • (2021-07-20) Georgia Papayeoryiou: It doesn't seem to work for Chrome OS. I downloaded the zip file but what I got seems to be for windows and they don't have an available file for chromebooks, or at least as far as I can see. Also, the steps are way too vague and don't really help if you don't already know what you're doing. I think it should be made clear it doesn't work for chromebooks.
  • (2021-05-04) Serge Delbono: Bien, mais avec Vivaldi, et Vivaldi connect, impossible d'avoir une configuration portable d'une machine à l'autre, si elles n'ont pas le même OS !
  • (2021-03-27) Nguyen Tuyen: Thank you very much! Please to support new menu context "Open Link in incognito Firefox window"
  • (2021-02-24) feo loco: just awesome - lets me surf the web with firefox and have all my often used webapps being run as chrome SSBs (app shortcuts). thanks to reverse mode, all clicked links inside the webapps open in firefox again. thanks for this great tool!
  • (2020-11-21) Martin: It works! Great for multi-monitor setup
  • (2020-09-17) Ryan C: It works for me (and in the Brave Browser no less)! Just install the extension, download the zip file it tells you to download, extract in contents into a local folder (I used "Documents/Open in FireFox" as my folder), and then double click on the install.bat file. Hit any key in CMD Prompt when it opens and you are set! Well probably anyway.

  • (2020-09-09) Y G: Doesn't work without installing additional software and that's not made clear before hand. Be honest from the start.
  • (2020-07-16) Sorin Ionuț Sbârnea: This extension is a real must for escaping Chrome Apps jailing as Google is forcing opening Chrome for any link present from a web app created with it. As Firefox support for web-apps is not yet useful for practical purposes (no dock windows or app icons on macos at least), we are forced to create web apps using Chrome. That comes with a big price: any link you click on these apps, will open in Chrome instead of using the system default browser. This extension can ameliorate this but it seems to still not work for changing all links by default, even if I tried to reverse mode.
  • (2020-06-26) Bruce Burns: I don't need the functionality of this extension myself. I was looking for a simple Windows solution to convert PDFs to Text out of the browser for a large group of people who are provided PDF files - in order to use an excellent text-to-speech reader. There might be a pdf reader and if there is I'll eventually find it. I use linux personally for most of my file manipulation including file conversions. So, 1 star for being the only kid on the block that has anything posted. The second star to encourage the developers to code this into a typical extension that provides a straightforward process. I won't be using this add-on at this time. Super Users might get it to work and that is cool esp if you don't have any other solutions. Good Luck Developers.

  • (2020-02-05) Len Kowalik: I have heard some disturbing things about Google recently, but unfortunately that was not long after the purchase of my second Chromebook. The fact that it did not work for me is not the developers fault. Google should have one source for code that runs with the Chrome browser on Chromes OS, and another for the Chrome browser on everything else. The fact that the browser and the operating system are both named Chrome has always been a source of confusion.
  • (2020-01-21) Brian Spearman: Doods, works flawless. Low stars are from non-doods.
  • (2019-12-01) Dezider Meško: Installing something more than an extension itself smells, but it looks like nobody else is able to do it without it (other plugins use python etc...) After quick install script review it looks ok. So hopefully it is, and it will stay safe :-) After installation works fine.
  • (2019-09-27) Je Gr: Extension has issue where if you also have Firefox Developer Edition installed, the link will open in standard Firefox and then also in Firefox Developer Edition.
  • (2019-09-14) Anthony Aniston: A great extension!!!
  • (2019-08-26) Charles Herold: Did what it said. I did have to install a small something in Windows (the first time you use the extension it will tell you what to do), but that was easy enough.
  • (2019-07-20) Ardianto: It works! Need one extra step to make it work. Thanks.
  • (2019-05-22) Ning Cao: good
  • (2019-05-12) SelfMed. pro: Flawless. The only extension that really works with any other browser with custom path. I'm using Firefox Developer Nightly or Edge Canary (with the Chrome engine). The rest of the similar extensions (the one for example that you need install Python) are should earn lower stars, but not this extension. This works. Low stars? Don't trust them, especially if you need seamless integration opening URL's in any other browser.

  • (2018-09-27) Andre Goree: Does exactly what it says it does, works flawlessly.
  • (2018-09-17) Ismael Ramirez: It works. You have to install something in your PC that takes you 15 seconds and then it´s set to start.

  • (2018-05-22) michael sam mendiola: i love this
  • (2018-03-16) V. Z.: I clicked the "one more step", downloaded the zip file. But giving access by letting this program run a batch file, and also an executible file? No, I'm not that trusting of any app developer. I thought "install extension" was install? I agree with other comments, seems too shady. Developer should have the user manually set up the machine rather than batch file and exe files. Uninstalled of course. And I did not run the batch file, no no no.
  • (2018-02-26) John Staples: Works great for me, I use Open in Chrome add-on also. Yes, it took some tinkering around to get them working.
  • (2017-12-31) david dalal: לא עובד ,למרות שהתקנתי תוכנה נוספת שנדרשה ממני ,הוסר במידי
  • (2017-12-27) kelly pratcher: Does not open pages in Firefox!
  • (2017-12-15) Richard Box: Doesn't work. Installed the communicator as directed, but won't open pages in Firefox still.
  • (2017-11-04) Spas Spasov: The extension works as it is expected within Ubuntu. It could be used in more extended way as it is illustrated here: https://askubuntu.com/a/972824/566421 Note to the Author: It would be nice if under the "Misc" section has a entry "Name of the executable: []", that will cause a change of the menu entry name, within the context menu of the browser.
