• (2022-09-02) Christoph Brecht: The bad reviews are coming from people who do not really understand what this extension does. 1. OPSWAT is a vendor for critical infrastructure protection 2. This free extension allows to scan files with the OPSWAT Cloud, currently 24 Malware engines (check metadefender.opswat.com for more info). 3. It can also check the URL reputation using the OPSWAT Threat intelligence 4. The API key you can enter is only needed for corp customers who want to use their own OPSWAT Metadefender instance. 5. And of course for the above you need to give permission for certain thinks to work I thinks this extension gives you the best level of security when it comes to downloads on the market, and that for free!

Thought it was browser problem. disable all the other extension but the api key just doesnt load. Disappointed with the extension. using the website is much slower

• (2019-08-23) Doc Flay: I swapped from using a VT extension a while ago and have been very impressed with this. Nobody needs all the pointless AV engines, and OPSWAT uses the ones I trust Now it has domain-checking of any sites you visit, and I was surprised and very pleased to see a warning for a spam domain which my other block-lists missed. The use of StopForumSpam is a great idea as it includes useful evidence for many IPs and addresses.
• (2018-06-28) Sindile Wren: used to have 4 stars... now it has broken my chrome...have had both OPSWAT METADEFENDER ext & EZ-LINK ext on chrome for years... no conflict till now... It nw is incompatable with EZ=link and i need my EZ-link way more so i have to remove OPSWAT.,. thaNKS. ~~~~~~ ERROR BELOW IS THIS: First none of my google searches will load and i get this 400 error: "400. That’s an error. Your client has issued a malformed or illegal request. That’s all we know." ~~~~~~ it says its extension fjampemfhdfmangifafmianhokmpjbcj which is yours ~ This extension failed to modify the response header "x-frame-options" of a network request because the modification conflicted with another extension (OPSWAT File Security for Chrome).

• (2016-09-24) Toro Castano: API key is redacted so no way to save it. I get error messages asking for the key when it seems to disappear. Don' t know if this is Chrome which periodically logs me out or the extension. Couldn't find a support page that addresses this.

• (2016-03-30) Sébastien Lauzon: Pretty solid for a MultiScanner. My suggestion, add a disable and enable button, because sometimes it's just pointless to scan a file, that you know is inoffensive, and sometimes you're just too lazy to wait for it to scan after the download. Just me?

I had been using their scanning service at www.metadefender.com, where you just drag and drop a suspicious file onto their upload page, where it's scanned by some 43 different antivirus engines. Among its roster are most of the heavy hitters in the Anti-Virus industry: Bit Defender, Kaspersky, McAfee, Microsoft, Symantec, Sophos, TrendMicro. Since AV engines all have different definition sets, one engine may not catch a virus, while another one will. When a file is cleared by all 43 virus scans, you know it's secure. This plugin effectively does what their webpage does, but removes extra steps by automatically uploading a copy of your suspicious file to their server. I'm even more impressed when it does catch a virus, because you get 43 'second' opinions on what kind of virus it is, with the result listed by each company It's a phenomenally powerful service. I would have given it 5 stars, except that sometimes the scan results page hangs - however it's easily fixed by refreshing the page.

• (2015-06-12) chad tunis: Took a few hours to get my free OPSWAT API key, but once I got it, and applied the key per the instructions, the metascan extension worked as advertised. It provides another means of protecting computers from the nasties lurking out there! Very nice extension!!!

• (2020-03-30, v:3.9.0) Sean Slattery: Rebuilt Windows 10 system and cannot obtain an API Key
  Everything was working great until I rebuilt my Windows 10 Pro system. Now I have the latest OS updates along with apps e.g, Chrome. The Chrome extension no longer works - constantly indicating that "Can't retrieve API key" and suggests clicking "refresh" API key but no such button exists. Thank you in advance.
