  • (2022-05-24) Preston: I absolutely love it. I have used it for months and I can't go without it. I always wanted to find something like this and was so pleased when I discovered that this did every single thing I ever asked for. You can even tell it to censor text and audio that isn't included in the wordbanks like saying the Lords name in vain by typing them into the words section of the settings.

  • (2022-05-23) Isaiah Farb: Fantastic! However, as of late, the extension does not work on any site other than YouTube. Trying to switch the extension on is impossible on these sites; it changes my cursor to a 'no sign'. Never had this problem before.
  • (2022-05-16) Manslaughter: Absolutely phenomenal. Ever since I started using this, my stress levels over people's stupidity have decreased significantly. No more wasting time on explaining the science of biology, cognition, ethology or the values of non-human animals to people who won't even listen to science. I am online all day long and interact with a ton of articles as well as random people, which unfortunately exposes me people who are willfully ignorant and extremely unethical. I'm not even going to mention the times I devolved into writing entire essays for people who don't give a flying F. I adore the malleability of this add-on. It's simple to use once you figure out what you need to do and it's extremely effective at censoring the words. I assume it goes through the entire code of the website and blocks out the words even if they're not immediately visible, yes? Brilliant. Keep it up, OP.
  • (2022-04-29) David Thompson: been loving this extension but suddenly is not working, tried everything, no joy :(
  • (2022-04-25) Charles: Absolutely love this extension for watching my movies/tv shows on Netflix, DisneyPlus, Prime and so much more! Kudos to the developers and the support team who address inquiries quickly and resolve any bugs. Keep up the excellent work!
  • (2022-04-23) Kelly Leigh Grant: Richard was so supportive, knowledgeable, and quick to reply to my email. He went above and beyond to help me. He took time out of his own day to troubleshoot the extension for me and kept in constant communication. He didn't stop helping until I was satisfied. Thank you Richard for helping me and creating an extension where people could watch movies without profanity. Kelly
  • (2022-04-08) Sebastiano Privitera: Very good.
  • (2022-03-30) Yakup M: The filter does a GREAT job removing offensive language. In our culture, profanity is becoming much too acceptable and the ability to watch prime and other streaming services without constantly being offended is greatly appreciated. Using God's name in vain, the F word and other exclamations are totally unnecessary and unfortunately highlights the limited, stunted vocabulary that is common now a days.
  • (2022-03-15) Christian Sorensen: Love this. Also love that Richard is active and supports it. Makes streaming so much more enjoyable
  • (2022-03-13) Jonathan Tran: Tested the audio feature on Disney+, works well!
  • (2022-03-10) Miro Nyholm: omg thank you so much!!!
  • (2022-03-05) Christian Barrington: WORKS ON LITERALLY EVERYTHING!!! This is the best product for filtering! Outs VidAngel and ClearPlay to shame! The audio muting is phenomenal!
  • (2022-02-23) Ashley Paul: This is the most useful extension I've used to date. It filters text profanities on websites and also mutes profanities on streaming videos. This enables me to watch movies and series without being forced to listen to people swearing. I found a streaming site (Amazon Prime Video) where it did not work and the Developer was extremely helpful with resolving it. A huge thank you to Richard Frost for the assistance and support provided and for providing this extremely valuable extension.
  • (2022-01-16) browsing falcon: Amazing Extension. You have to click on mute audio checkbox under the audio tab for it to begin working on youtube. Extension works great. Thanks to the developer.
  • (2021-12-19) Chronicles of Luke: Been waiting on someone to make something like this extension for years. I watched many of my favorite movies growing up edited for tv and was disappointed when I bought the movie and realized it had so much bad language. So glad I stumbled upon this extension. I didn't know something like this existed. Now I can really enjoy my movies. Keep up the great work.
  • (2021-12-07) Projekt Darkside: waste app, waste tons of code if block only loaded text ..... peoples need block own what write lmao
  • (2021-11-29) Julie Gagnon: Works great most of the time, but in YouTube captions if a custom added word is all in upper case the plugin doesn't filter it or mute the audio. Also I can't seem to get it to allow certain swear words; the S-word and F-word seem to always be filtered no matter what. :( Other than that, a great plugin!
  • (2021-11-18) s l: Perfect! I just love this developer. When I asked Richard to add showmax audio support it was done in a matter of a few hours. He really made my day. Please support him in any way you can. Thank you Richard :)
  • (2021-10-26) AoNeko: I added Netflix to the list of sites where the muting requiring the subtitles to be shown failed. I added Netflix to the sites that should be filtered. I think Netflix updated or I was missing something.
  • (2021-10-21) DavidStrongInChrist: Set up can be a bit confusing at first but once you configure everything how you want, it works really well! So many shows on netflix with bad language I can now watch. Thankyou to whoever made this!
  • (2021-10-21) Pat MySecret: 10/20 This is more than a Profanity Filter if you let it be! OH.. I needed this LONG ago! You can use it to replace words for filtered summarizations and filtered copy/paste. For instance, I go on a blog where the writer puts anything posted with a name like his, amongst various other odd things he censors, on hold. And a lot of times I unwittingly copy something with the name Michael, or the word author, or links etc in it and it gets put on hold.. This can filter that copied info automatically. Thank You!!
  • (2021-10-19) Raimundo Ricketts: This extension was just what we needed. It is THE BEST for Chrome compared to others of its kind. Developer please note: It seems to be having issue muting audio in HBO Max lately. It does continue to censor subtitles flawlessly.
  • (2021-10-04) Deal Finder: I can't get this working. I mean, it edits the subtitles but doesn't mute the bad language on Netflix.
  • (2021-10-01) Savannah Howell: Excellent extension. Well-made, kept up-to-date. This is probably my favorite browser extension I have ever used. The author is responsive if bugs arise. It is so extremely customizable, too.
  • (2021-09-01) Aleksandar K.: Handy tool. Blocked a couple of trendy words by pressing a few buttons.
  • (2021-08-16) Nathan Webb: Works unbelievably well! Even work on tweets
  • (2021-07-31) Ryujinxed: Very helpful for my anxiety triggers for certain words
  • (2021-07-23) Taylor English: It's pretty great extension! Thank you for creating this! One problem I've been having recently is that YouTube takes forever to load when I have this extension enabled. Do you know what I can do to fix that?
  • (2021-07-19) Cam Newell: fantastic
  • (2021-07-18) Hayden Anderson: I absolutely hate cursing. IT ALWAYS GETS STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR A WEEK! This extension filters out curse words all over the web. Now I don't have to worry about them getting stuck in my head. Thanks!
  • (2021-07-02) Kat Simpson: My kids wanted to watch Hamilton and I wanted them to, but the profanity was too much! Now, we can watch it as a family. Thank you sooooo much!!!!
  • (2021-06-23) Sam Malgren: Finally, something that works on Amazon Prime. I used to use Stream Clean, but for whatever reason it can't keep up with Marvel movies. Nice to find an equivalent that actually does the job.
  • (2021-06-20) bill LL: 感谢你的开发,非常好。另外希望能加入中文菜单,让更多人使用,谢谢
  • (2021-06-06) Aryan Narayan Narotra: This extension is good at filtering bad words from all of my favorite websites, like itch.io game store, where i bought only 2 games at the time. Now there are bad words in Comments sections, including YouTube's comment section, and other websites where they write bad words. I haven't tested it \on YouTube's Subtitles or Video, where they say bad words on YouTube's Video, and on subtitles. The only problem I think it has, it that it doesn't filter out bad words from the pictures, like foul-mothed Comic strips, or some other pictures. The Extension has to be more advanced to filter in PIctures or Videos, like skipping a part of the Video where the Video's Publisher included Subtitles that are built inside the Video, and not on the YouTube's Subtitles. Maybe, if this extension can't help us filtering words in Pictures, maybe it should contain an option to disable those pictures with bad words while other pictures that doesn't contain bad words should be there. It should also filter out bad images that does/doesn't contains bad words. I can't name the pictures I'm talking about here right now, but it should be updated to remove bad pictures, and skip parts of the Video where there is an bad word containing clips. It should also check some websites and disable adult websites. This Extension have good branding name, but it should be updated, like skipping video clips containing bad words, removing images that contain bad words, etc. This extension surely makes Internet a better place to explore.
  • (2021-05-22) emu: I like this Profanity filter a lot, but unfortunately it only works on Netflix..I've tried using this on YouTube,Disney, Paramount, and so much more and it doesn't work. Which is so frustrating because I want to watch movies with my Mom and siblings. Please help and fix this issue.
  • (2021-05-21) Alan Lamb: I am in LOVE with this extension. It's crazy how hard it is to find something with this function. Not only do I feel way more comfortable browsing now, I can substitute with words and phrases that give me a good laugh! I will download and support this on every browser and device I ever own. The only thing I haven't had luck with is the audio censoring. When I use it on Netflix, I can either have the audio censored, or have subtitles on; not both. On youtube it just wasn't working for me at all, but I see there was an update recently so hopefully that's coming! Thank you Frost for all your hard work!
  • (2021-05-21) t s: NICE
  • (2021-05-20) Mercy N.M: Thank you brainiacs for developing this for the layman!!! What a difference it has been watching shows. Albeit, there are instances where the text falls behind the audio and the whole process becomes nullified. I would suggest pre-filling the words with a list. I had to seek out my own list, which was inconvenient.
  • (2021-05-20) Naiya Dyani: Thank you so much for making this! It's a lifesaver. However, I'm still getting curse words on sites like Pinterest where it's part of an image. I imagine it's much harder technologically to filter those, but is there a setting that lets you do that?
  • (2021-04-27) Bradley English: I would give it 6 stars if I could. It is so useful and effective! The settings interface was tricky at first, but it works like a charm once it is set up to your liking.
  • (2021-04-03) Ayush Hirachund: Hi Richard, great filter. Works really well on Netflix and on Youtube which is what I primarily use. Just wanted to see if you could help apply the filter to other streaming sites such as https://123movies.mom/ and https://gomovies-online.me/ - would really appreciate it, thank you. [Extra, thanks for helping with the queries I had Richard]
  • (2021-03-30) YuAre A. Stranger: Noice. Now I can go around searching things on Google while streaming on Twitch, worry-free. (mostly.) Two suggestions: -Censor words that have already been inadequately censored such as "bum" with an @, "frick" with two or three asterisks, "dung" with an exclamation mark/two miscellaneous symbols, etc. You can probably do that with regex or manually adding permutations or something but I have other coding to do. -Custom CSS for censored words would be nice. Not even gonna ask for things like homoglyph detectors, acronym detectors, substitutable glyph lists, context AI, whitelist malice or anything of the sort until people read this review and decide to get way too smart with their swearing endeavours.
  • (2021-03-15) mikey stakey: works
  • (2021-02-17) Gregory Teichert: I recently found this extension, and I really enjoy it! I've been using it especially for muting profanity in online videos. Very clever and helpful! Richard was very responsive and helpful when I was trying to add a new streaming site. Five stars.
  • (2021-01-16) Nathan Freestone: I love the extension so much that I wanted to rate it a 5 star review! It blocks out bad words on the screen! You can replace bad words to whatever you want! On this computer, I made bad words replace to "Censored"! You can add or delete bad words on it! The word "blocked" gets filtered out for no reason! I deleted the word "blocked" to be unfiltered because the word blocked is not a bad word! I really love it because children and your family won't see it and repeat it! Richard Frost, how did you come with this Chrome Extension? I really want to know! Thank you!
  • (2020-12-10) 2 S: this program creator is god
  • (2020-11-15) Daka Baka: Best profanity filter I've ever used. The only issues I found is it sometimes fails to recognize profane words, (thats youtube's automatic captions fault), and it adds a good 8 seconds to loading to every page. I'm very patient, so it doesn't bother me, but I can see it bothering other ppl. Eitherway, get this extension. Its great. I can watch Gordon Ramsey on youtube without the profanity.
  • (2020-10-20) Adam Dawood: Such a great extension!!!
  • (2020-10-10) Kevin King: it works great.....sometimes. I watch a lot of Disney+, and for the most part it works. But every now, and then it just misses a few. Besides that it is a GREAT profanity filter, and unless there's a better one out there, ill keep using this one.

At the moment, I had to add the words into the list, manually. Anyways, I'm extremely thankful for your extension! It's life-changing! Regards.

  • (2022-03-10, v:2.33.2) ツBrayden: play.stan.com.au - removes text, but does not mute audio.

  • (2022-02-13, v:2.32.1) Maria Stayer: Critical issue: Even the extension default profile does not work
I reinstalled Advanced Profanity Filter (3.23.1) and found that the "Whole" and "Partial" match methods still did not work with the minimal, default profile. In the first place, my large config did not cause the problem, the cause may be that I am using Google Chrome 83.0 and Google Chrome Canary 83.0 which are fairly outdated browsers.
  • (2022-02-01, v:2.30.0) Katie Guidry: Disney Plus

  • (2022-02-01, v:2.30.0) Maria Stayer: Add dozens of newlines before and after each word in a config file
I want to examine the config file but I currently cannot. Can you add dozens of newlines before and after each word when exporting config data? This way, I will not have to see objectionable words nearby while I examine a legitimate word to test if a feature is working. Which in turn makes a config file safer to read. Since JSON is a structured text format, I believe it is easy to simply ignore all the redundant newlines when importing config data.
  • (2022-01-31, v:2.30.0) Maria Stayer: "Whole" and "Partial" match methods are broken

I can go to the extension in Chrome, where I see screen shots of settings, but I can't find a link to actually get to settings. And on your website, I see a description of all of the different settings, but still can't find where to go make changes to the settings. Thanks for your help, Carl

First of all, thank you for developing this extension. My family and I have really appreciated the filtering. A few months ago, we used it to watch all of season 1 of Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ and it worked great. We tried watching it again and now the filter is not working. It is toggled on and CC is enabled and showing all the subtitles, but it is not filtering either the text or the audio any more. The filter works on Amazon Prime just fine, but no longer on Apple TV+. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

The Gomovies site is having troubles of their own, not anything filter related cause that is still working great (thanks again). The movie I was trying to watch was the 1979 Alien - https://123movies.mom/film/alien-xPYgC/watching.html - which did have captions with it. Got the filter to censor the words but could not mute the audio. So just wanted to see if you could maybe help me out with that one, thank you (hope you're well). Regards Ayush Hirachund

Just wanted to see if you could help add the sites https://123movies.mom/ and https://gomovies-online.me/ to the filter me or if you could help me in making them custom sites in case you're busy. Thank you, the filter has been working great for me for Netflix and such.
  • (2021-03-12, v:2.17.0) Maria Stayer: My achievement summary
I have no suggestions here. I believe I am truly doing great to shield myself against profane words. My past suggestions became your features to improve its ease of use and usability. I also have my own extension to fill the gaps Advanced Profanity Filter is not able to deliver me enough protection. My extension can block all emojis to be safe, alt text and redirect if it is a profane url.

  • (2021-02-16, v:2.15.0) Gregory Teichert: Subtitle censored but audio not muting
    Hi Richard, I just found this extension and am really excited about it. Thank you! I tried adding pbs.org as a custom site for filtering of video. I got it to work to censor the words in the subtitle text, but it doesn't mute the audio. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?Here is the video at pbs.org I was testing on: https://www.pbs.org/video/episode-6-jqctii/ And here is the custom site json code I was using: { "www.pbs.org": { "className": "vjs-text-track-cue vjs-text-track-cue-en", "mode": "element", "subtitleSelector": ":scope div > div", "tagName": "DIV" } }
  • (2021-01-28, v:2.14.0) Bill Roy: Audio not muting on Netflix
Hello Richard: THANK YOU for this amazing extension! It works perfectly on my PC Laptop using Chrome while watching Netflix (The Crown, specifically). The subtitles are filtered, and the audio is muted for the phrase containing the profanity. However, when I try to cast to my Chromecast using the "Cast" feature of Chrome, the subtitles filter properly, but the audio profanity is not muted. Might you be able to walk me through the proper settings to mute the audio when casting? I also have a Fire Stick, and other browsers if that helps. We sure appreciate your good work. Does your extension export, or share, my censored words? Are the censored words kept only on the PC where the extension is installed? Thank you.

  • (2020-12-23, v:2.11.0) Josh Cougle: Hulu stopped working
I have a Chromebit and Chromebox running this extension and it's a life saver... your work is so appreciated. A few weeks ago, Hulu stopped working on both... no matter what settings I select on APF, the captions display (even when told to hide)... it does filter the captions, but does not mute the audio... So... while on Netflix, my settings hide captions until an offensive word, then display the alternate dialogue and mute audio... on Hulu, same settings, show the captions the entire time, then at an offensive word, continue to display the captions, but include the alternate word and does not mute audio. If I can provide more info, let me know... and I so very much appreciate your time.

Is it possible for you to filter the url too? This is relevant on places like reddit, where post titles show up in the url.

Hello! I am very interested in using this extension, but I want to try adding a list of blacklisted words. The problem is, whenever I try to bulk add a list of words (separated by returns), and save it, it says it failed to save. Do you know what the issue may be? Thank you!

I have some movie files on my computer that I would like to filter. Is there a way to do that? I can get the files to play in a browser such as chrome and I even found a plugin that inserts the subtitles. I just can't find a way to make the profanity filter recognize it. Any ideas?
