Chrome Extension to inject random quotes in your Gmail signature.
Automatically injects your favorite quotes in your outgoing emails, both original composes and replies. Click on the extension icon, located by clicking on the "puzzle" icon in the top right of the browser, to load the quote manager screen.
----
Version 2.0.3 fixes the deprecated DOMNodeInserted event removal by replacing with MutationObserver, which prevented quotes from being injected as of Chrome version 127.0.6533.120.
----
Version 2.0.2 includes a bug fix where a fade-in and fade-out on save feature was causing errors in the JSON panel.
----
This is version 2.0.1 of Random Signature Quotes for Gmail™, which includes the ability to add quotes to the signature for replies, not just initially composed messages. This has been a highly requested feature for many years now. 2.0.1 also includes upgrades to the extension architecture, moving from manifest v2 to v3, Chrome's newer extension platform.
----
Version 1.0.0 contained major improvements to the quote manager, accessible at the top right in the address bar. 1.0.0 made it much easier to add, edit, or remove quotes, without dealing with the complicated JSON markup from the previous version.
For power users, the JSON panel is still available, in case you want to export quotes or re-import a bulk collection of quotes.
----
To help inspire others, and so I could more easily see quotes I enjoyed hearing from famous, successful technology startup founders and other influential people, I wanted something that would put those quotes randomly in my Gmail signature.
Well, there wasn't anything out there that did that, so I created something that did. I specifically wanted to be able to control the quotes myself.
When you install this extension, my hand-picked quotes are selected by default, but you can change them by clicking the page action 'S' icon next to the favorites star in the address bar and editing the quotes.
The quotes are stored as a JavaScript array, so you may want to export them to a nice text editor like Sublime text if you're going to make extensive changes via the JSON editor.

- (2024-08-08) Paul T Brown: I've been trying to find a way to insert a random tagline in Gmail forever. I used to use Outlook and I wrote my own VBA script to do it but since I migrated to Gmail my emails have been boring with it. I can't believe I never found this until now! Excellent job on this, much appreciated! EDIT 31-JUL-2024 --- Sometime in the last week or so, it looks some update to Chrome has broken this. I no longer get a quote in my signature. I don't know exactly when it broke. I tried removing and re-installing the extension to no avail. 😭😭 EDIT #2 7-AUG-2024 --- I've logged an issue on your github for this, please let me know how I can help troubleshoot and find the root cause. thanks!
- (2023-06-15) Jean Claude: Hello I would have like to use your extension but no quotes are injected in my emails I can, however, access the quotes panel. When I go to to inspect the popup I see those 2 errors: failed to load resource: net::ERR-FILE-NOT-FOUND glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff:1 failed to load resource: net::ERR-FILE-NOT-FOUND glyphicons-halflings-regular.ttf:1
- (2023-05-22) Yosh Mantinband: EDIT 2023-05-22 Still works great! And James (the developer) is very responsive. I reported a couple bugs in the latest version a few days ago and he's already posted an update that fixes them! I continue to recommend this add-on highly! --- original review from 2017 --- Works as advertised. It was straightforward converting my Quotes.txt file into JSON (albeit I was challenged by some embedded tab characters, but I found & removed those) and then I pasted it in & the extension does the job. Recommended. It will be nice when it supports replies, but it already has value for me with its existing functionality. And here's an easy workaround for replies that I've learned. Just pop out the reply. When you do that, a quote is appended. Thanks!
- (2022-02-24) Jeremy Nicholls: Great! Here are my HHGTG quotes as JSON - https://docs.google.com/document/d/12sjHL8N40mJVNo6sMzhNomA7MsRRwi8GTyqdE1_VBS0/edit?usp=sharing
- (2022-01-12) Jeanne Mawad: works as it says it works!
- (2018-04-17) Jack S: Took a bit of fiddling, but got it working in the end! Be sure to restart Chrome and log out of your email account, it won't work until then.
- (2018-03-20) Ron Doyle: Works just as it says, no issues. Yes, it took a little while to add my quotes and verses, etc. but it was worth it. I may be a little slow on this but I use the Pop out on replies and get no quote. Could someone provide the steps they use to get the replies to work? Thanks for the extension and thanks for the tip.
- (2016-11-07) Aleksandar Langer: I don't get it.. i can't access the option to change quotes. This is just retarded, life is not only about stupid coding and programming ....
- (2015-04-01) Michelle Shackleton: It took ages to replace all the quotes with my own, but now it's just perfect.
- (2015-03-31) Neil Kalman: This would be perfect if there was an option to add a quote on reply as well.
- (2015-02-26) Peter Kesting: This is a really cool app. I like that it can be customized, I've changed all the quotes with Bible verses, so people are getting a wide variety of verses. BUT only reason it is getting 4 stars and not 5, is that it doesn't work when you are replying to a message. The standard gmail signature appears on replies but not the random quote. Could this be fixed? Thanks
- (2015-02-10) Bryant MW: is Not working!!, maybe it worked before
- (2014-10-02) Eitan Burcat: I love it! Replaced the quotes with my own list - so it's even more fun :)
- (2014-08-04) Christian Bates: Easy to install and doe exactly what is says on the tin.
- (2014-07-23) Artemio mio: Cannot figure out how to work with it
- (2013-11-12) Markus Hernández: Didn't work with the default quotes nor with custom ones.
- (2013-11-08) Asif Kazmi: I really like this and I find it easy to use. This would be a 5/5 if I could get this to occur on "Reply" messages as well. For now it only works if I compose a new email.
- (2013-09-26) Maria Fernanda Cassias: How does it work? I cant see any signature when composing a new email.
