Open new tabs to the right of the current one.
Open Tabs Next To Current
=========================
Open tabs that would normally be opened last next to the current one. Tabs that are being re-opened are thus not included. You can use `Ctrl-Y` (`Ctrl-Shift-Y` on Windows) to open a new tab at the default location.
Note for Chrome
---------------
Keyboard shortcuts are not automatically set up. You need to do that manually on the extension page in settings.
Note for Firefox
----------------
Tabs that are opened by clicking on links are opened at the default location. You can change the setting `browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent` in `about:config` if you want even those to be opened right next to the current.
Known Issues
------------
Caused by limitations of the webextension API, see
https://github.com/sblask/webextension-open-tabs-next-to-current/issues/26
and
https://github.com/sblask/webextension-open-tabs-next-to-current/issues/29:
- tabs are visibly moved to their final position
- the tab bar is scrolled so the opened tab becomes the first visible one on
the left (Firefox only)
- when opening multiple tabs at once, only one of them is opened at the right
position

- (2023-08-15) Hayden Strzina: It's a very simple but effective extension that we shouldn't need - it doesn't make sense to open a new tab at the end of all other tabs. Chrome, please just add this feature already
- (2023-08-08) i don't have drag around new tabs any more

- (2023-02-25) Влад Гнітецький: Thanks for your work
- (2023-02-24) Kuroi Mato: It certainly opens a new tab next to current, but if you have scrollable tabs option enabled in chrome flags it scrolls to the last tab every time...
- (2023-01-09) Andrew Huang: Doesn't work now
- (2022-12-30) EGYMAN: problem : scrolling to the end of tabs
- (2022-12-29) Robert Dziubek: insane
- (2022-12-24) J B: Chrome tab opening defaults are unchangeable and makes browsing frustrating. Why would I want a new tab open to the far right of the tab bar when my current tab is on the far left? Whether it's a new tab or clicking a link from my mailbox, Chrome opens at the end of the tab bar. Finally decided to search for a solution, and after digging through the settings it was clear Google has no configurability that will make it easier to use. So I searched the Chrome store and found this free extension. I'm using it for a week or so and it makes browsing much better. Would definitely recommend to others.
- (2022-10-01) Jin Tham: nice simple tool, just what i needed
- (2022-09-24) I: With scrollable tab bar this extension doesn’t moves focus to newly opened tabs
- (2022-07-16) Mike Bilel: awesome
- (2022-06-09) Smith W: it works
- (2022-05-23) Benjamin Philipp: All in all, sadly, not good :/ My personal Issues: 1: The classic problem of Chrome still scrolling to the end of your tabs (I have chrome://flags/#scrollable-tabstrip enabled), which gets annoying quick. What I do to counteract this is to press Ctrl+Shift+Tab, Ctrl+Tab (or which ever shortcut is linked to left tab, right tab). With 280 tabs open, that's worth it. I then made a shortcut for that with AHK, now I can just press F2 to "scroll the active tab into focus" 2: It focuses on the right tab after closing one, which may have never been focused this session. Why are we focusing this tab? There was no indication made that we're interested in this tab! ^^ If it's a tab with autoplayable media on focus, suddenly your browser is loading, then autoplaying what ever is there. Not cool. Opening a tab is just half the story, there should be a way to decide what to do when it is closed as well. 3. Lack of customization Do you want to control whether this behavior to apply to the "new tab" button as well? Would you like a separate shortcut? What should happen when you close a tab? Would you maybe like to be able to toggle this on and off without digging through your list of extensions? Well tough tiddies, you ain't getting any of that! There are other issues people reported, but they either don't bother me or I haven't encountered them yet, so I won't include them in this review. Just know that they're out there, fellow extension seeker

- (2022-03-26) aZtraL EnForceR: Thx. works as promised. no problems or whatever as others mentions here..
- (2022-03-14) e: amazing
- (2022-03-10) Steve Kempf: Unusable. I *only* want to override the behavior of ctrl-t. I do not want the + button on the right to change behaviors, and I especially do not want ctrl-y to be overridden to "open tab at the right", since I use ctrl-y extensively for a different purpose in my workflow.
- (2022-02-24) Budi Pratama: Working great and helpful. Thanks dev
- (2022-02-10) Person 1: What is this bs. Have to install an extension for even a simple function like this. This should be in Edge settings.
- (2022-01-21) Ade: Perfect, thank you!
- (2021-12-27) Mike Cohen: Opens new tabs next to current as advertised. Except 2 flaws: Most important one is that even though the new tab DID open next to current, it also scrolls your tab bar (horizontal) or tab list (vertical) all the way to the end. So you have to scroll all the way back and find your current tab's position. Not sure why it does that. Almost as if the extension did indeed open the next tab in the correct spot, but the browser is still assuming it was placed at the end, and repositions your tab bar to that point. There is no option to stop the browser from manipulating your tab bar/tab list, so I am not sure how to stop this behavior. The other flaw is that if you open multiple tabs from the current one, it seems to place them in reverse order as opened. There should be a way to place each new concurrent new tab AFTER the previous one, as long as you do not switch view from the current. Similar to how Firefox works without extensions. Example: "C" is current tab you are viewing and "1-3" are tabs you are opening from "C" as in First, Second, and Third. This is how they order presently "C, 3, 2, 1". But it should be "C, 1, 2, 3" Unless you take viewing focus away from "C", the new tabs should be stacked AFTER each other, not before.
- (2021-12-24) Noal Balint: nice, simple extension. does what it says. very useful!
- (2021-11-20) CreativeBuilds: works exactly how I needed, no unnecessary popups 👍
- (2021-11-02) JoeBusLife: This works, but like Samuel Tremblay said in his review, it alters the behavior of the new tab button at the right of all the tabs. Now it will also create a new tab next to the currently selected one instead of at the end. "Duplicate Tab Shortcut" IS MUCH BETTER. It preserves the new tab button function and has options for other shortcuts as well.
- (2021-10-31) 张骋: good
- (2021-09-28) Marc Castells: This extension, combined with Ctrl+PgUp and PgDwn, saves me a lot of time. My hands don't have to leave the keyboard to go search the mouse and then find which tab was I before opening a new one.
- (2021-08-22) Colin McDonnell: lifechanging. has worked perfectly for years, all the negative reviews are outdated.
- (2021-07-16) Guillermo Siliceo Trueba: Works as expected, saves a lot of clicks and key strokes in managing tabs.
- (2021-05-31) Evgeny Stefanenko: In version Chrome 91.0.4472.77 something was broken
- (2021-05-29) Joe Vanderbilt: This extension stopped working around the time Chrome 91 was released, . It mostly opens the new tab at the far right end but also occasionally seems to open tabs to the left of the active tab as well.
- (2021-05-29) Seve82: Stopped working. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
- (2021-05-29) Alp Kaan Gökçe: It hasn't worked since yesterday. Please fix it.
- (2021-05-29) madafaka766: Not work anymore
- (2021-05-21) Kevin Kuhle: It was good when it was working. Lately it seems lose track of the current tab or something and open in the middle of a bunch of tabs which is worst than the end. I am on Chrome 92.0.4515.0. Maybe it's the tab groups feature messing this up?
- (2021-05-05) Adam Badawy: doesn't work unfortunately. it probably broke cause of an update to chrome. opens tab in rightmost position for me (like the normal new tab shortcut)
- (2021-05-01) BJ Pike: This should be the default behavior I'm using Edge. This extension mostly works, but sometimes inconsistent. When it's not working, I fix it by fiddling about a bit (closing a tab and clicking on another tab or something like that). It's fairly rare; rare enough that it doesn't annoy me. One request: For Edge's vertical tabs, if you have enough tabs for a scroll bar (i.e. more tabs than vertical space), opening a new tab will scroll to the bottom of the list, so sometimes your new tab isn't visible until you scroll back up. If you can, I suggest updating the extension to maintain the vertical position the current tab (except when the new tab would appear offscreen, in which case you'd scroll one tab up or down so that you can see the new tab). For now, I press both Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab to get similar behavior. Thanks for the extension.
- (2021-04-12) Владислав Ф: Спасибо
- (2021-01-26) Krzysztof Maliszewski: Doesn't work properly in incognito mode with extensions that open multiple tabs at the same time, i.e. RevEye Reverse Image Search. One tab opens next to the current one, the rest at the end.
- (2021-01-15) Nate Schley: Been using SebBlask's FF add-in for years as one of my must-have extensions. Why did I not know he'd done one for Chrome, too? I just installed it, and it works like a champ!
- (2020-12-19) Landon Ferguson: Came back after having it for two years just to let you know you changed my life ty
- (2020-10-31) sikret persen: I started get used in chrome, but still get annoyed when new tab option cannot be modified like Firefox. And at last after I found that there an Add-on like this, Thanks a lot "Sebastian Blask" and Team
- (2020-09-23) Michael Tran: The keyboard settings on Chrome aren't configurable as the explaination says, so there's no way to configure keyboard shortcuts if you want to be able to open tabs in the old location occasionally)
- (2020-04-15) Justin La: does what it says - great.
- (2020-03-31) Uri Argaman: Works as expected. Thank you!
- (2019-11-29) Thibault Messemacre: Works just fine! Thanks
- (2019-10-18) Tony Philip: Working great on chrome (canary) 79.0.3944.0
