Image from store Rename Tab Title
Description from store Renames the Tab Title (Firefox 52+) Click the icon on the ToolBar (or) use the shortcut Cmd/Ctrl + Shift+ E (can be customized from chrome://extensions/shortcuts) You'll get a popup, enter the new title a)Click on Save (or) Press Enter to Save or Esc to close the popup without saving title (closing the Popup without saving makes the title non persistent) --- b) Click on "Edit All" in the popup to manage saved titles or use regex feature In Urls section, select the URL from dropdown located at the bottom of the page Edit the Title in textbox Click on save (or) Press Enter to save the title. Click on delete to delete the title. In Regex section, add/update regex and the corresponding title and press "Save" eg: /.*google.*/ matches all the websites which has the term google in the url, /*/ matches all websites *some websites keeps updating the title on some events (eg: gmail.com updates title whenever hangouts gets initialized and whenever someone pings) this addon doesn't work in such cases as i didn't add the polling. If have any workaround for this please do mention in the comments.. thanks If you have any suggestion for shortcut. Please mention it in the comments and the reason why it is better. Because of its prior effectiveness, temporarily I'm reducing my rating by just one star. === PERSISTENCE: this is one of the very few renamers that persists through reload and even restart. SIMPLICITY: no need to go into menus and specify "rules" in order to do the retitling, DOWNSIDE: just one - unlike other retitler extensions, the pop-up's text field does not present the existing title already highlighted, which would enable any new modification of the existing title to automatically erase the existing title; in other words, to type or paste in the new desired title, it takes an extra step to first manually highlight the current title. Were it not for this omission, it would be the very best and easiest retitler around. [Windows 11; Vivaldi 6.5]
  • (2023-09-25) Caleb Moore: really great tool that fixes an awful user experience i have on a tool that i used daily, where all the <titles> are the same no matter what. i often need to have like 10 tabs open. this one REMEMBERS what you chose to rename a URL to.. amazing
  • (2023-08-22) Ali Schipani: This is exactly what I needed - so easy to use. I often have a lot of tabs open to make my job easier but I am always triple checking I am in the right tab. Now I can work even faster because of this extension without second guessing myself.

  • (2023-02-15) Роман Ю.: Мои потребности полностью удовлетворяет, уже давно им пользуюсь. Разработчику спасибо)
  • (2023-01-16) Aman Shaukat: get reset everytime the page reloads.
  • (2023-01-13) Brenda Posh: I tried about 8 tab title renames and found this one simple and does what it says. I wanted a one time title change. Very easy in my test. Click the tab - click the extension icon - puts up a box to change the title - press save - done. Title changes immediately - no need to refresh (which all others I tried required). I opened another page in the same tab - it kept the new title. I closed the tab and then reopened it - it kept the new title. I did F5 refresh - kept new title. When I opened a new page in a new tab, it old title came back. That works for my purposes - maybe not for everyone, But I give it high ratings for what I wanted.
  • (2022-10-19) Peter Amir: Just work for one time
  • (2022-08-16) Kevin Watt: Wish it'd prevent the tab title from changing through navigation/etc in the future as well.
  • (2022-05-26) Сергей Друзь: Work's fine, easy to use (ง •_•)ง But I prefer to use this "Tab ReTitle". It’s more for my needs.
  • (2022-04-01) Đorđe Jović: Does not work.
  • (2022-03-04) Nick P: Thanks for the free tool. Please keep developing! (Make sure names don't change, right-click context menu would be fantastic if possible...)
  • (2021-11-12) Patrick Faulconer: It doesn't work when the page reloads if the site is using jQuery to set the tab title. The developer of this extension could fix this by waiting until the page has fully loaded to set the table title.

  • (2021-09-21) Alex E: doesn't work
  • (2021-09-15) Denis Cowley: Exactly what I needed. Renames Chrome browser tab with simple click.
  • (2021-09-13) Max Georgievsky: Tab name resets after reloading page, so this extension is useless...
  • (2021-07-28) Christoffer Brobäck: the regex doesn't seem to allow capture groups, i added in the title $1 and /1 and didn't get other title results than "$1" and "/1" i would maintain this plugin if the source was on github and i could fork it
  • (2020-08-27) KONGOU 3: Is there a limit to the number of tab titles that can be saved? I have saved hundreds of titles so far. But recently I realized that I can no longer save. If the limit is set, please remove it. Or please tell me the file name of the local file where the settings are saved. Thank you.
  • (2020-03-29) Tim Hueller (TwoCables): I wanted an extension that would rename a tab for YouTube history to "History - YouTube" from the Google-forced "YouTube". I tried a few and none of them worked. Then I tried Rename Tab Title and my search ended. :) Now every time I go to my YouTube history, boom: the tab title changes to "History - YouTube". Thank you, Anush Veeranala! Edit: Now it's no longer holding the title of "History - YouTube". It holds it for a while, but after some indeterminate amount of time, it goes back to "YouTube". I can never predict when it will do that. Back to the proverbial drawing board...

  • (2017-11-11) Mark Kehn: I use a bookmarking website called Tagpacker to keep my favorites in the cloud. Although this extension does work, this site I use breaks the extension in the sense that they constantly refresh the site which causes the renamed browser tab to revert to normal naming. Can you fix this extension so that the renamed tab persists until the tab itself is closed, no matter how many times the tab is refreshed? I sure hope so. Thanks in advance.

  • (2017-08-24) Сергей Викторыч: Can you add another extension, that automatically uses bookmark title of page for tab title. So when I save bookmark google.com f.e. as "Start page", tab title automatically becoming "Start page", when rename bookmark to "Searcher", tab becomes "Searcher" and so on.

  • (2017-04-28) Chad Bishop: All I wanted was a simple tool to rename tabs that had very similar urls. This was the only tool that I could get to work and yet it was the simplest to use. I don't write reviews often enough, but I felt this fully deserved it.

Hello. I am trying to get rid of the (Number) notifications on page titles from sites like Facebook, Linkedin, etc. but not succeeding. Tried with the following: Site: /*/ Added Regex: \(.*\) (.*) \1 This is how that extension dialog looks like: https://i.imgur.com/j1x1otS.png I refreshed those pages and I continue to see those annoying notification counters in page titles on tabs. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

  • (2020-10-26, v:1.2) Sergiu Oanea: Question regarding implementation
Hello. Great work with the extension. I have to update the tab's title while working on one of my extensions. I've search for an API to do it, but it seems that is not possible to change tab's title with `chrome.tabs.update()`. Do you mind pointing me in the right direction of how you've implemented it? Thanks.
  • (2020-05-14, v:1.2) Craig Lambie: RegEx
Hi mate, Great idea for an extension - so many sites name the page title wrong... I often end up with 8 tabs the same name. Xero are useless.... my main bug bear atm. So I am using https://www.regextester.com/ to make sure my RegEx is working with the URL I am looking at. Except it isn't working. If I save the one URL it works, but I want it to change the title on any sub page, etc. anything relating to the URL part I am looking at. In this case URLs (adjusted for privacy) https://go.xero.com/BankRec/BankRec.aspx?accountID=CAFA-4033-AA25-D51869B6F6F6&blah https://go.xero.com/Bank/BankTransactions.aspx?accountID=cafa-4033-aa25-d51869b6f6f6&blah RegEx: /.*(CAFA-4033-AA25-D51869B6F6F6)/ig or /.*(CAFA-4033-AA25-D51869B6F6F6) Both work in RegEx tester website, but not in the extension. Your extension does work if I save the URL, for exactly that URL only, if case changes, it doesn't work anymore, hence moving to RegEx. Help...please.

  • (2019-05-22, v:1.2) Avi Baron: Regex tab renaming
Hi, Maybe I don't understand the original intent. I'm looking to rename all tabs that meet requirements of a regular expression and I want the result to be part of the original tab title. E.g. I often have multiple tabs open that start with a string that matches this expression: "^Ticket - T[0-9]{8}\.[0-9]{4} - " I'd like the part of the title that matches that expression to be removed from the tab title. Is this possible? Thank you so much for your work, I know creating extensions is often a thankless job.
