Image from store Tab Extract
Description from store ● Too many disorganized tabs open? ● Slow to find the tab you're looking for? ● Want to reduce tab and window clutter quickly? Tab Extract helps you easily re-organize your tabs according to the subject or site, or quickly find a tab, or easily remove multiple tabs. How it works: Tab Extract will move all tabs from any window with a keyword match (in their URL or page title), into a new window. To use, type "ex" followed by a tab/space into the address bar, then enter keywords. ✓ "ex facebook news" will extract all facebook tabs and any tab with "news" or "facebook" in their title or URL, into a new window. ✓ "ex ." merges all tabs into the same window. This works because all URLs have a "." in them. ✓ Batch-remove tabs by extracting tabs to a new window using Tab Extract, and then closing the window. ✓ Tab Extract can merge tabs from across different windows into the same window by using a common keyword amongst the tabs. Notes: There is no need to select anything in the auto complete box, just press enter. If your Chrome has saved some "ex <keyword>" as a search term for autocomplete, clear your history. • (2023-11-10) Gage Adrian: Works perfectly. Absolutely genius. Edit: Unfortunately not working on Brave browser as of Oct 2023. Still works amazingly on other chromium as far as I can tell.
  • (2023-06-11) David Lane: Quite frankly all I ever wanted in life .... well in a life with tabs that is.
  • (2023-04-11) Google Store: It probably is Chrome's fault, but when I want to extract, e.g., all wikipedia tabs, it barely extracts half of them (say 100 out of 250) and on the next take only 3, the next take another 3.... so it seems to ignore the so-called sleeping tabs, hence it loses its appeal, because it's faster to copy tabs manually, tab by tab, than to extract three to a new window and then use another extension to export the tabs. Any way to address the presumably sleeping-tabs issue?
  • (2021-12-10) Cecil Mathew: Good extension, has been very useful. Have been using it for years on Chrome. I just started using it on Edge in the last couple month. I just noticed it won't grab all the tabs with the domain I typed. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact hat Edge puts the tab to sleep?
  • (2021-04-05) a13ph (a13ph): Does one thing well, for a decade already.
  • (2018-08-23) E s: This is the first extension I always install - whether I'm setting up a computer for me or someone else. Very powerful yet simple and lightweight, this is the functionality that should be built into chrome. Thanks for developing it!
  • (2018-08-14) Samuel Brasington: very nice extension. I am a developer and constantly have searches for dev technologies, and great to be able to group tabs by technology
  • (2018-06-28) Justin Reinhart: This is probably my favorite chrome extension. I've never had a complaint. Simple brilliance.
  • (2018-06-10) Hyperion Marshall: I use Tab Extract several times a day. I consider it essential. The only hitch is when a tab is not fully loaded - but this is not Tab Extract's fault - and when you're typing in your keyword, it will tell you in real time how many tabs fit into search criteria. Most of the time I do not even have to type in an entire word - just enough to differentiate, but on occasion adding the .com (or whatever) helps. One of the very best and hassle-free Extensions Chrome offers.

  • (2017-05-17) Cindy Lai: I have > 100 tabs open all the time, hence I could never find the tab I need. With this plugin I can finally clean up my tabs in an efficient way! this plugin is fast too!
  • (2016-12-30) Nirut Tamchoo: EASY & WORKS !!! FANTASTIC !!!
  • (2016-03-05) I like ex a lot as it helps me organize all the tabs that are opened by bug trackers that I use. A feature I would like to see is the ability to remove duplicate tabs. It would also be neat if I could define shortcuts to common ex operations as I otherwise have to copy/paste the base art of urls for the tabs I want to merge., for example, all google docs into one window, all bugtracker tickets into a window.
  • (2016-03-01) Tim: It's amazing. You can move all Google search tabs from different windows into a new window quickly and close them all at once to free memory. Try ex tab q=
  • (2015-11-09) Francis York Morgan: Fantastic.
  • (2015-09-12) Najwa Laylah: Just installed and already like it. If it has no annoying quirks after a week, I will give it five stars. It does something that seems missing from TooManyTabs for Chrome and will complement it.
  • (2015-02-25) Christoph Wagner: Fantastic. Just what I was looking for. Completely unobstrusive UI, no extra button cluttering up my toolbar. Very flexible with the filtering. Great for power users.
  • (2015-01-21) Marcel Partap: small but useful. could use a "goto" keyword.
  • (2014-09-09) Rayna Kuzio: Easy to figure out...I've been using it, and organizing my junk doesn't seem as daunting! 100% a KEEPER
  • (2014-08-25) I like to pull apart tabs and put them back together with the "ex ." shortcut in the omnibar.
  • (2014-07-17) x Sass: Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks Google search results & TabEx developer(s)! :D I predict this is going to save me clicking through blank squished tabs many a time more!
  • (2014-03-05) Marlon Bong: Does one feature and does it well! Love it.
  • (2014-02-28) Sami Haahtinen: Wow, after searching high and low for a proper extension manager, this finally popped up on my radar. Exactly what I needed. And best of all, works without ever leaving the keyboard.
  • (2013-12-31) Alex Lee: Wish it did pinned tabs as well.
  • (2013-05-07) Garrett Winters: Wonderful and useful...however, there's one issue...sometimes, when I use the command, it starts opening tons of windows with nothing in them before actually doing what it is supposed to do. All these windows do close, and a window does open that has the tabs I extracted, so it does work, but when it makes thousands of windows open it makes me panic slightly...do you know why it does this sometimes?
  • (2013-03-10) Riaz Ali: Very useful once you get the hang of it. Using 'ex .' is a great tip.
  • (2013-02-08) Jerry Rapp: It is a very useful extension if you have a lot of tabs open. However I would like to have an option to not grab pages that i have set as "applications" via chrome (tools/create application shortcut).
  • (2013-02-05) Jon Smithers: Quite handy! I wonder of regex would be a practical addition...

  • (2020-08-27, v:1.3.0) Richard Hodgson: Great Suspender support?
Hey, would it be possible to add support for The Great Suspender? (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/the-great-suspender/klbibkeccnjlkjkiokjodocebajanakg) Right now Tab Extract seems to have issues extracting suspended tabs, likely because they're suspended. Obviously. I think I've seen other extensions able to access info from these suspended tabs when they're present, though I don't remember which right now.
  • (2020-05-05, v:1.3.0) Paul Dowsett: Can Tab Extract de-duplicate the browser.
Great extension. Thanks for creating it. Can you tell me if there's a way for TE to move all duplicate tabs to a new window? Thanks
  • (2018-12-13, v:1.3.0) A B: Keywords
Would love to be able to include multiple keywords to search. For example: Wordpress and WP to include both options. Also, I don't know if individual browser windows can be Identified, but it would be great to see the Keyword on the preview at least when selecting which window to open.
  • (2018-08-29, v:1.3.0) can I sort tabs but keep them all in the same window?
As subject, but if it cannot, then do you have any recommendations for extensions that can do this?
  • (2018-06-03, v:1.3.0) Sowa Odwa: Does not working on UCbrowser (chinese clone of Chrome).
After typing: ex and TAB - nothing happens. Can it be made compatible with UC Browser (program has an English version too), or add another way to run it? ps. Working good in SRWare IRON

I click on the extension and I get no prompting, I click tab extract and go to the webstore? Only other options are to remove or hide it. Is it current?
  • (2017-04-14, v:1.3.0) Andy M: Support for Vivaldi
I've recently made the switch to Vivaldi and while many chrome extensions work I was disappointed to find that Tab Extract (which is one of my favorites and most used) does not. Would you consider supporting Vivaldi?
  • (2017-03-15, v:1.3.0) Sami Haahtinen: Option to include pinned tabs
While I like the fact that there are no configurable options, I wish I was able to include pinned tabs in the extraction. My normal workflow goes something like this. Throughout the day I run 'ex something' and at the end of the day I run 'ex .' to consolidate the leftovers. This usually leaves the pinned tabs in a separate window, which means I have to manually move them or re-open them to have them all in a single window.

Is this still in active development? Core function seems to work and extremely usefull
  • (2015-01-21, v:1.3.0) wildcards/regex
Can I use wildcards or regex? Want to extract google mail and google translate into their own window but I can't seem to do it. What keyword sequence should I be using?
  • (2014-03-27, v:1.3.0) Michael Hsu: Not working still?
I'm on the dev beta of Chrome. Tab extract comes up, but nothing happens.
