  • (2023-01-31) ClarifyAI: feels just like im on linux, i like that i can change the keybinds
  • (2023-01-09) Manoj Khot: Really a useful window manager not just for the browser tabs but other apps installed on Chrome OS, found just what I was looking for.

  • (2021-03-08) Abraham Huitron: Great application for managing windows in ChromeOS. It took a bit of configuration at first (the shortcut keys in the extension options page) but it was well worth it afterwards.
  • (2020-10-10) Reema Bennekaa: I was delighted with it until I tried and failed to get windows to switch positions with each other (I'm sure there's a way to do this with keyboard shortcuts that I just haven't figured out yet but dragging doesn't seem to do it) and then I created a virtual desktop and new Chrome windows in the virtual desktop kept tiling as if the windows on the other desktops were on the same screen. Support for virtual desktops? I did try to set up a keyboard shortcut to move windows clockwise, but then when I used it the windows just flickered and remained in their original positions.
  • (2020-02-20) Khalil Bey: This is truly great, though two small bits of feedback keep it from being fabulous: (*) Dragging the final tab of the window into another window often becomes tricky since the remaining windows will resize as the dragged tab attaches to the new window, only to separate again when the windows resize. One fix would be to avoid window resizing when the pointer is performing a drag. (*) docking to an external screen tends to be pain since there's no way to reevaluate screen geometry short of disabling and reenabling the extension. A keyboard shortcut binding to toggle the extension on and off would be extremely useful.
  • (2019-11-02) Srdjan Rosic: Works great ! when I remember what I need to press. (UX feedback): The keyboard shortcuts take a while getting used to, and me not being used to them makes it harder to start using the extension, which made me disable it at work where I usually have multiple displays and running into snags and friction is more likley and more frustrating. Any chance we can get an options menu to pop out with all the "commands" on a key shortcut (a chrome tile palette menu if you want to think about it that way) , will all the possible chrometile commands and their shortcuts listed?
  • (2019-10-28) DJ Adams (qmacro): I use Amethyst on macOS and am so delighted to (a) have found this WM for ChromeOS and (b) discovered that it works REALLY well. Thank you! BTW, I recorded a short video demonstrating its use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wurUJniyaKk
  • (2019-06-21) Roberto Pablo Ríos Siliceo: For someone used to tiling windows managers (I use i3), this extensions is a must. It is Amazing! The setup is quite small, and it suggests keyboard shortcuts that will not conflict with other Chrome OS shortcuts. You do not need to set them all up, which is also convenient if you do not use all of them. And yes, it has shortcuts for changing focus, moving windows and switching what display the window is in! The layouts are predefined, but are quite convenient for my use (3 vertical windows). There are also shortcuts to modify the size of a screen, so you could modify the layouts to your liking. This is a solid extension and quite happy to find it for Chrome OS!
  • (2019-03-26) Mike Wayland: Wonderful! There is a hefty learning curve, especially coming from something like i3, but man is this a nice WM! Best in store!
  • (2018-12-07) João Paulo Souza Soares: I've been looking for something like this for years, I used i3 for a time and never found a good replacement, I wasn't expecting to find it in ChromeOs.

I prefer having the right side be the "main" panel. However, I couldn't find this as an option. Is this supported?
  • (2022-04-19, v:0.7) Alberto Gonzalez: Doesn't understand desks
If I use this extension in combination with desks (virtual desktops), the tiling manager will leave gaps for windows that are in a different desk.
  • (2021-12-13, v:0.7) Dylan Curley: requires permission to read browsing history?
Hi! Why does this extension require permission to read browsing history? Is there any way to use this extension without granting that permission?
  • (2021-08-30, v:0.7) Jose Inestroza: It works great but not at first installation
Great web app. If you are having issues making it to work, read the following text. At first I could not get it to work, even installing it and uninstalling the application multiple times, however, seeing that many others were commenting on the effective functionality, I had to keep testing it to verify what the problem was. Web app version: 0.7 ChromeOS version: Version 92.0.4515.157 (Official Build) (64 bits), August 2021 The findings that I can share with you, are the following: 1) Before installing the web app, I recommend that you make your resolution very high. In small resolutions the app has not worked for me. Changing the Chrome OS resolution on the fly helps too. 2) Configure the keyboard shortcuts, since through the "cycle to next layout" you can "force" the web app to recognize the windows while navigating the different types of window formations. Not all the key combinations must be filled, however, the ones I have configured are (I have not yet tested the web app on more than one monitor): Alt + Shift + H shrink the main pane (Suggest Alt + Shift + H) Alt + Shift + L expand the main pane (Suggest Alt + Shift + L) Alt + Shift + J focus the next window counterclockwise (Suggest Alt + Shift + J) Alt + Shift + K focus the next window clockwise (Suggest Alt + Shift + K) <none> focus display 1 (Suggest Alt + Shift + W) <none> focus display 2 (Suggest Alt + Shift + E) <none> focus display 3 (Suggest Alt + Shift + R) <none> move the focused window one window counterclockwise (Suggest Ctrl + Shift + H) <none> move the focused window one window clockwise (Suggest Ctrl + Shift + L) Alt + Shift + 1 move the focused window to display 1 (Suggest Ctrl + Shift + W) Alt + Shift + 2 move the focused window to display 2 (Suggest Ctrl + Shift + E) <none> move the focused window to display 3` (Suggest Ctrl + Shift + R) Alt + Shift + P swap the focused window with the main window (Suggest Alt + Shift + Return) <none> increase the number of windows in the main pane (Suggest Alt + Shift +,) <none> decrease the number of windows in the main pane (Suggest Alt + Shift +.) Alt + Shift + Space cycle to next layout (Suggest Alt-Shift-Space) <none> cycle to previous layout (Suggest Ctrl-Shift-Space) <none> force windows to be reevalulated (Suggest Alt + Shift + Z) 3) Not all windows are compatible with the web app. Windows such as the file manager, Chrome applications (e.g. Caret), Android Apps or the windows of programs activated by Linux, have not worked for me. Common Chrome windows, the incognito window (the flag to allow the web app to run at incognito should be activated), chrome settings window, PWAs (e.g. Google Keep, Google Drive) and the Linux terminal (crostini) worked correctly. 4) My Chrome OS configuration is in Spanish, so some of the options text can show visual errors so I recommend you to fix the source code as I did if this annoys you, and install the app as an unpackaged extension. https://github.com/brockgr/chrometile I can recommend the author to update some of the app description because information like this can help other to use it more, because once working, its great.
  • (2021-02-08, v:0.5) Jonathan Kibarsky: Not Working: "move the focused window to display X"
Working with 2 displays and can't move windows between displays with the key binding. Doing so with mouse drag and drop is rather cumbersome since the extension doesn't seem to pick up on the fact that its moved 80% of the time and moves it back to the display it was on. Only if you resize it to be smaller than the display bounds and then move it does the extension pick up on the display change.
  • (2020-10-18, v:0.5) Reema Bennekaa: Help!
Suddenly stopped working for me. Originally couldn't get it to recognize virtual desktops as new desktops, but now new Chrome windows are just taking up the whole screen/overlapping existing windows (on the same desktop). Thanks. I installed an adblock application a little while ago but I think it was still working after that. Noticed that it says "no access needed" in the extensions menu, not sure if it needs access -- but I can't seem to give it access! Not sure if you're still interested in developing this/providing user support (I think it might have been a Chrome update that broke it though...?). Will update if I can get it going again, thank you for the memories.
  • (2020-09-14, v:0.5) Zac Yauney: Documentation?
I'm not able to actually get this to work on my Chromebook and I would really like to. Is there any documentation I can read to get it running?
  • (2020-05-09, v:0.5) Gautam C: Does this window manager support binary space partitioning, or just predefined layouts?
So can one decide to use the more traditional method of tiling where when a new windows is opened it splits the current window, or is it more like here is a pre-defined 4, 3, or 2 window layout?
