Description from extension meta

Grep like utility for browser

Description from store Search and filter text in your browser. This is a utility designed to help you find information in logs. It works best with text files. It is similar to grep in that you can filter lines based on your search. It is better than grep in that you can bookmark specific lines. In this version (1.0) search and filter is limited to case-insensitive strings. INSTRUCTIONS / TUTORIAL: Press icon to activate HotLog on your page. Enter a search-term in the box. HotLog will move the document to the first occurrence of the search-term and highlight all occurrences. You can move to the next or previous occurrence by using the arrow buttons to the right of the search box. With a search-term in the box, press enter. The search-term is now a filter-term. HotLog will filter all the lines so that only lines containing the filter-term will remain. Additional filters can be added. Lines matching at least one filter-term will be allowed through. Double click a log line. HotLog will bookmark the log line by highlighting it and placing a link to it on the left with the same color. Bookmark lines will be displayed regardless of filters. • (2018-06-19) JP: Makes looking at log files a lot easier. Edit (6/19/18): seems to have stopped working very recently (possibly due to Chrome updates)
  • (2016-08-16) Matthew Lavin: Excellent log tool, I use it all the time. The ability to only show relevant log lines makes it much faster to scan through logs. You can also pause and resume filters!
  • (2016-07-20) Hector Tellez: This extension is one of the most useful ones I have come across with. Looking at logs has never been easier, you don't even need to leave your browser!
  • (2016-02-26) Raul Bluesman: adds a button to the browser bar, just stays there and does nothing. I'm sure it's great when it works, but It does not work for me at all.
  • (2014-10-27) Rupert Madden-Abbott: Very useful but it would be great if this could also support inverse filters i.e. grep -v, so that we could filter out lines that match a specific term.
  • (2014-08-18) Valerie Hayes: Easy-to-use tool that greatly assists when looking through logs.

How to make it work with live logs?
  • (2016-07-20, v:1.1) Hector Tellez: Shortcuts?
Are there shortcuts? I couldn't find them. The most basic one would be something like in most webapps with a search bar would be '/' which puts the focus in the search bar. I can contribute, is this an open source project?
  • (2015-06-25, v:1.1) Karl Ulbrich: Inverse search?
An "inverse search" option to EXCLUDE lines matching a particular search (similar to grep -v) would be a wonderful addition!
