Description from store
Word Counter is a simple extension that helps you get the number of words and characters in a text selection via context-menu.
Simply select a text with the mouse, then right-click and select - Count words & characters - from the context menu. A popup will appear to inform you about the number of words in the selected text. Besides this number, it also informs you about average word length, number of total characters, number of special characters, and the longest word. This addon has no settings or options to adjust. Simply add it to your browser and start using it. It works on any web page as long as you can select a word or sentence. Please note that this addon does not have a toolbar icon.
If you want to report bugs or have a feature request, please fill the bug report form on the addon's homepage (https://mybrowseraddon.com/word-counter.html).

- (2025-04-12) Ameen Abou-Rjaily: This works exactly as I need it to for my purposes: highlight text and get a word count from the right click menu. Perhaps I just got lucky but I haven't had any issues at all, so I am made to believe that whatever is happening in some of the old reviews has either been fixed or there are use cases that I am overlooking where the functionality would drop off. Regardless of any of that speculation, I like this extension and would recommend it to anyone looking to replace other word counting extensions that are no longer compatible with newer versions of chrome.
- (2025-03-21) Nyssa Hunt: This does exactly what I need! The Word Counter Plus extension went down, and I needed a simple word counter that would allow me to highlight text, right-click, and see the word count for assignments I'm grading. This does just that - thank you!
- (2025-02-24) Bob Sorensen (Cowboy Bob): Some people are fussing that it's cumbersome, probably because an extra click will strain their fragile fingers or something, but I rely on this extension and use it several times a week. (The original choice was fine, but Edge detected malware, so this is the replacement.) My need is to get an approximate word count, and this is far easier than copying the text and pasting it into a separate word processing document for that purpose! As for character and special character counts, I can't speak about that as I don't need it.

- (2024-01-09) John Weiss: Works well, but shouldn't count spaces as "special characters".

- (2021-10-25) Pat MySecret: Yet another context-menu-accessed counter. This one requires a right click, going to the tab, and then a left click. Cumbersome.. There are others that do it easier. It has the non-standard feature of stating the longest word.
