Description from extension meta

This extension lets you limit the width of any web page, for better readability on big screens.

Image from store Skinny
Description from store When a web page has lines of text that run the full width of the page, it can become hard to read on high resolution monitors. If you find yourself making your browser window smaller just so you can read Wikipedia comfortably, this is the extension for you! Just click the Skinny icon to instantly make the page narrower. (The extensions doesn't change any pages until you click the button.) Two vertical bars are added to the page, visible only on hover, that you can drag to change the width. It will keep track of pages that you have set to be 'skinny', except any pages you visit in incognito mode. If there's a site that's not behaving well with this extension let me know and I'll check it out.

  • (2021-03-28) Michal Neoral: Finally, something what is working on the whole domain, even with reloading pages. I tried so many of similiar extensions and nothing worked (except this one). Only thing what is missing for me is possibility of set the width of the page.
  • (2019-02-21) Christian King: Finally overcomes the abysmal readability of sites like Wikipedia. Now I can rest happy, know that other out there can continue fighting over their subpar reading experience.
  • (2017-11-09) Ma Chao: Great!
  • (2014-03-12) Brian Hurd: Exactly what I was looking for, but it would be nice to obe able to define the skinny width, and the color of the sides. I would prefer black on the sides.
  • (2013-10-03) Jordi Maylin: A good alternative to services like Pocket or Readability if you just want to read the article right away and not later. Also, don't forget that Chrome allows you to bind shortcuts to your extensions (on the extensions page); very handy if you want to switch between "normal mode" and "skinny mode".

  • (2020-10-24, v:1.8) Brian: Reset Dimensions Option
A reset dimensions to default option would be extremely useful, I find myself having to uninstall and reinstall the extension whenever I accidentally change the dimensions
  • (2020-05-17, v:1.8) Brian: An option to enable automatically on specific subdomains
I really like this extension and think it works really well on google, however, let's say I want to do an image search, the extension breaks the way that google image search works. I would like a way to disable it on google image searches but not on standard google searches.
