Description from store Go back with the backspace button! This extension re-enables the backspace key as a back navigation button -- except if you're writing text. What's New in 2.1: ================== * The two lists of URLs in the options now accept '*' as a wildcard for the end potion of any path. For example, entering 'https://www.example.com/*' will match any HTTPS page on www.example.com (including https://www.example.com/ itself), and 'https://www.example.com/some/path/*' will match any page within that path on that site. * The minimum Chrome version for the extension is now 55, because that's when a simpler and more robust method that it uses was added to Chrome. Before Chrome 52, the backspace key navigated back (if you weren't writing text). Many people lost their progress while working online by accidentally pressing backspace and leaving a page -- so we removed the feature from Chrome, and created this extension for those who prefer the old behavior. This extension can't restore backspace on certain special pages, for example any of the "chrome://" pages such as Settings or Extensions. About the requested permissions: "Read and modify all your data": In order to capture backspace on every page, the extension needs to install a little piece of code on each one. It does nothing else with the page, its information, or your typing. "Manage your apps, extensions, and themes": This lets the extension detect when it has been re-enabled and install its code into tabs that are already open then. The extension's source code can be viewed at https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/extensions-by-google/+/master/go-back-with-backspace/ By installing this item, you agree to the Google Terms of Service and Privacy Policy at https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/.
Latest reviews (2019-11-16) Pedro Henrique Garcia: Does not work. (2019-07-29) Klaus: BEWARE: Only works on some URIs, if the option "allow access to file URLs" is enabled in the options interface, as extensions are by default blocked from interacting with those. (2019-07-17) Stephen Teasdale: Originally a 'One star' review simply to complain about the removal of 'backspace' to go back in the first place. Now, 5* as it does solve the issue. But I'd rather that this functionality was an option in Chrome rather than an extension that I have to install on every Chrome browser I use. (2019-06-07) Tobias Beer: it should not work whenever forms elements are active, esp. not in any inputs or textareas! I'm going mad trying to edit anything in TFS, constantly goes back one page. (2019-05-25) whodini mcgee: thanks for UNbreaking something universal to browsers, right up there with INVERTED scrolling trend on the OS level... (2019-05-09) Michael Köhler: Simple and tiny tool that nothing else do than brings back the "Back" Shortcut. Works fine, thanks! (2019-03-09) Taylor Gridley: Been buggy as of late. If I load a new page, I can hit backspace to go back while the page is loading. But if it fully loads, backspace does nothing unless I click the page. This is just adding one more step for no reason. (2019-03-05) Doesn't work (2019-03-05) MEA Just: My most frequently used extension by far! And when I had a question about the extension, I had an unbelievably quick response. Thank you! Not ideally, but still comfortable. (2018-12-12) Frédéric Ginoux: This extension should'nt exist. Just go back to the previous behavior, or at least add an option to let us re-enable the shortcut... (2018-12-08) Peter Källgren: I didn't know for a long time that this was made by Google themselves. This gives me hope that Google really cares about its users. (2018-11-15) Nam Vũ: Like many people here, I was angry with Google's change. But unlike most people here who gave it a 1-star rating out of anger, I was actually equipped with an average intelligence. I actually googled (irony intended) their reason for this change, and I realized it's a very valid reason. This change was made so people who was filling out forms don't accidentally lose everything when they press backspace thinking a form was selected. I've been there, I know the frustration. And unlike other companies, Google knows removing this feature is not something everybody wants, so they made this plugin for people who didn't ask for it. If anything, people should be grateful instead of voting this down like idiots. That is all (2018-11-12) colo capacco: i had another extension with this function that worked perfectly but by some reason it was removed and it just disappeared from chrome (i dont know how since i erased the update url from the extension manifest json) and im just left with this thing that makes pages losing all format, looking just text and links without any format. just impossible to read. later i just will search for the packed previous extension that just worked, if someone knows about it please help... these are two of the sites that failed to load correctly and made me loose my time https://www.cnet.com/products/bose-a20-aviation-headset-without-bluetooth/specs/ https://www.flyingmag.com/electric-aircraft-developers-hail-part-23-rewrite just another dumb corporation enforcing things on their users because it believes owns us too (2018-10-18) Christopher Mills: Google are often known for taking two steps forward (making their own phone OS) and one step backwards (copying Apple). Sadly, they went full-Apple on Chrome and removed this essential keyboard shortcut that laptop users rely on. Someone at Google knows what they were doing - thanks whoever it was who coded this extension. (2018-10-14) leseanu catalin: Face ce trebuie! (2018-09-15) Christophe Breland: Thank you im so used to doing it and nothing happens so happy i stumbled across this
