Like if you use the custom theme function to set the background to black and foreground to white, all the links will disappear, since the foreground color for links remain black and there is no way to change it. Custom CSS works but it's quite complicated for regular users.

But, a big issue with this extension is that it injects a ton of code into every single site you visit whether you're using "Clearly Reader" or not. Most if not all of the code injected is completely unnecessary. It also breaks some websites even when Clearly is not being used, ie the clickup.com app.

It will read aloud, export/copy, clip, let you create an account if you want, translate, do a simple index, do auto opens, and more.. but.. there's an irksome little popup in Chinese when I try to try to copy from the Reader and the clipboard highlight is too light to be useful.. seems I would need to go pro to have options.

  The whole point of making a 100 lines of 10 inch long lines of text readable is the ability to re-flow the text into a narrow column of print, like in a newspaper or magazine. Just making the text prettier and ad-free is nice but falls short.

  When I was reading this article "https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-021-01111-2" in the Clearly viewer, the figures in the article were not filtered (which is really nice :), but they appeared as "broken image" icons and no real images were shown.   I have been unable to install Clearly Reader 1.8 on both the Dev and Beta version of Chrome. A window pops up saying: "An error has occured Could not unzip extension." Any ideas?

  Toggle Clearly itself works well, but the result cannot be used by Evernote Web Clipper. The earlier Clearly (I think by EverNote) allowed you to clean up a web page, and even had a link to send the results to Evernote. This program shows a link with a right click, but choosing it has no results. I have to go back to the original, highlight the article, and then choose Evernote from a right click. Unfortunately that process was one of my main uses of Clearly.
