Description from store 📡 Internet Connection Monitor aka ICM for Google Chrome 🎯 ICM IS THE BEST FOR ⭐️ Recording and analyzing outages of Internet connection ⭐️ Verifying ISP/provider issues ⭐️ Verifying some hardware issues 💻 FEATURES ✅ Precise connectivity test with configurable testing interval ✅ Latency measurement ✅ Detect when Internet doesn't work over operating Wi-Fi or Ethernet ✅ Disconnects, availability and downtime stats ✅ Play sound when connection goes online or offline ✅ Events log with CSV export ✅ Realtime connectivity and latency monitoring ✅ Light and dark themes support 🚀 NEW IN ICM v5 ➕ Realtime connectivity and latency monitoring ➕ Main popup opens up faster ➕ A couple of bugs fixed 👓 FAQ 🌎 https://internetmon.org/#faq Q: Where is the extension icon? A: At some point Google Chrome changed the way extensions are displayed. You need to click on the puzzle icon to the right of the address bar and then pin Internet Connection Monitor Q: What exactly can be monitored? A: The extension monitors the Internet connection and reports 3 statuses: 🟢 Online: LAN (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) connection is stable, Internet connected 🟠 Connection issues: if Chrome itself cannot properly determine whether Internet connection is down while you're connected to LAN (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) - this status will popup. Most likely, your LAN (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) is connected, but there is no Internet connection behind it. In most cases, it is ISP/provider issue 🔴 Offline: LAN (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) is down, no Internet Q: How does the extension test the connectivity? A: The extension uses a combination of Chrome internal API and pinging Google servers via https (port 443). It does not expose any open ports or something else that could compromise user's security Q: What is the testing interval? A: How frequently to ping Google servers to determine the status of Internet connection. The option is configurable: check very 1, 2, 3 or 5 seconds Q: Does this extension have access to my browsing history, etc? A: It does NOT. Moreover, it does not require any special access at all (you can notice that other extensions ask you to give them some permissions during the installation process) Q: Can this extension measure Internet speed? A: It cannot. Please, use Speedtest by Ookla 🌎 https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/speedtest-by-ookla/pgjjikdiikihdfpoppgaidccahalehjh?hl=en Q: Will it work if Chrome is closed? A: Not, it will not. You need to have a Chrome window open to track your connection log. It's relatively easy to add Chrome to autostart on Windows, Mac or Linux Q: Will it work if computer is in sleep? A: Yes, it should work, but the mechanism of tracking the disconnects while the computer is in sleep has not been thoroughly tested. Macs, for example, wake up every couple minutes and ICM checks the connection. But do not rely on precise measurement during the computer sleep, keep the computer running. Alternatively, use Realtime monitor feature inside ICM to check what's going on. Access it via main extension popup Q: Can you use it on Microsoft EDGE, Brave or Chromium? A: Yes, you can. It works on all Chromium-based browsers Q: Is there a Firefox extension? A: Currently, only Google Chrome and Microsoft EDGE are supported. There is a feature request 🌎 https://bit.ly/icm-firefox to implement the Firefox version. Vote for it if you want to speed up the development Q: Can you give an advice on how to improve Internet connection overall? A: Read the article about the 3 primary reasons of Internet connection issues 🌎 https://bit.ly/icm-improve-conn ✨ Icons by svgrepo.com 📩 Contact and support: [email protected]

  • (2025-03-25) Rajshekhar: Best extension out here on web store, detailed reports and stats with charts and logs as well to monitor and report outages. However, it records incorrect data on the total disconnect count. Every time the Wi-Fi reconnects or refreshes, it records that event as online. The Windows PC insists on connecting to other Wi-Fi networks and disconnecting even no other Wi-Fi is available after connectivity is lost. Somehow, this extension records all those events as online. Therefore, the total tally of disconnects is more than it should be. How come it's able to ping google.com when connectivity is lost. I tried changing frequency of ping in setting, but problem still persist.
  • (2025-02-21) M: There is something wrong with this extension. When using the live monitor (the full page that shows statistics), after a little while, CPU usage stays between 5% and 10% and power usage stays between high and very high. As soon as I stop Internet Connection Monitor, CPU and power usage drop back close to zero. You guys need to do some testing about this or stop using our CPU for your personal projects. Thanks

  • (2024-08-30) John Barclay: Love the tool. Could be a coincidence but my network issues went away when I installed it and set the ping time to 1 second. Perhaps coincidence, perhaps the isp was disconnecting me when during latent/off periods? Regardless the tool is a perfect fit for my use case. Thanks.
  • (2024-08-29) Hyoroemon Meto: cool tool but it merely show if my connection is cut off, not if internet is connected but no internet access

I came back today to test my connection with this tool it monitors 24/7 gives me great data to tell me how healthy the connection is. • (2024-04-18) Ananya Shamihoke: Great tool, thanks so much for creating it. I need to consistently monitor my internet connection to determine whether I am being given a lower level of service than my contract states, this is just what I needed.
  • (2024-04-12) David Rhind: Excellent extension. Does exactly what I need and very simple. I have a Starlink connection that has intermittent dropouts and it's important to be able to know when it happens (the sound setting is a must for me) and also to be able to see if it's just a slow page load or a connection issue.
  • (2024-03-15) Nimesh Patel: Very useful to monitor my internet connection. But can we change ping source to my website?
  • (2024-02-01) Khuthadzo Mukwevho (Khuthi): Thank you, very useful to monitor my home connection.
  • (2024-01-26) Mark Newton: Thanks for all the recent changes. What was already the most convenient, helpful and practical chrome extension in my menagerie, just got even better. You're always spot one ICM, after-all who doesn't want to know they fell offline, why and when?
  • (2024-01-25) Steve Schwartz: Update 1/25/2024: Oops: the icon is configurable, my dumb error. I guess the update changed it, however, so I JUST SPOKE TOO SOON. Fixed, and still at 5 stars++ . Sorry for the error...Update 1/24/2024 - the new icon is just plain awful: the nice big green dot was much more discernible, and the new one is almost invisible. Plus, the adoption of the WiFi symbol is misleading/confusing in addition to being hard to spot. Please at least make the old green dot optional. Otherwise, it is still useful, but this tarnishes a gold reputation. Exactly what I was looking for - very much appreciated!

  • (2024-01-21) S To: Great extension. Would be nice if there could be an option setting to repeat the sound alert when internet goes down. Thanks.
  • (2024-01-19) P NONE: Great extension. Does just what I need on my wife's computer to determine any issues with wifi mesh, wifi router or computer wifi card. Thanks Dmytro. Would like additional testing intervals or ability to enter my own value up to 30 seconds.
  • (2024-01-16) CN J: i installed it and there's no instruction on how to use it
  • (2024-01-08) Rhys Gottwald: Great extension, very useful. I would like to request one feature, an on/off switch so that I can turn it off when I don't need to monitor my line.
  • (2023-12-31) Martin Butterworth: Excellent utility! Installed at my old mans house so can see when the issues he reports are issues with his internet connection or something else. Does an amazing job of helping me diagnose that his internet connection is not very good...
  • (2023-12-30) astronut: I NEED this extension, have terrible internet, it provides data I can show Comcast techs to prove my connection stinks - but as of 12/27/23 it no longer loads - tried it on my laptop too, won't load on that either - just see a msg: Internet connection monitoring Monitoring will appear soon... Dmytro - I don't know how to answer a question on extension reviews, so I'm editing my original one to answer your questions - just emailed you everything you wanted. It looks like a problem with the Brave browser and your extension, I got it to work on Chrome and Edge, but I hate those browsers and refuse to use them. Edit: Wonderful - the author fixed the extension within 36 hours of me reporting that it broke after a recent Brave browser update, now back to working great - I'm SOOO happy it's fixed! I want to send this guy some money for his efforts but don't see a donate link like many extensions have - Dmytro, if you see this, let me know how to thank you monetarily.

  • (2023-09-27) Gary Roberson: SIMPLE TO READ AND USE. I don't honestly know why someone hasn't thought of this WAY before now. We have Spectrum, and our node for the entire neighbohood went down. It sucked, and the only way I kept my sanity was to look and quickly see if it was down by a simple red X or green checkmark. And I plan on using the detailed statistics log to prove they owe me about a weeks worth of credit!
