Text Editor
A free, highly customizable text and code editor extension for your browser.
Text Editor is a full-featured text & code editor add-on for your browser.
This add-on has plenty of options to adjust and is built on top of the famous CodeMirror open-source JavaScript library (https://codemirror.net/). Once you open the add-on for the first time, you will see a sidebar at the left and an empty text editor at the right. The left sidebar includes file I/O buttons. For example, a button to open file(s) or settings. There is also a right sidebar that includes all the options for this app.
Note 1: This extension uses the new file system access API (https://web.dev/file-system-access/) to open and save files to disk. But, if your browser does not support this new API, it uses the - downloads - API instead to save files to disk in the default download folder (asks for downloads permission when opening the interface).
Note 2: Currently, Text Editor supports three key-maps for famous text editors (i.e. sublime). Moreover, it supports more than 100 coding languages (i.e. JavaScript, CSS, HTML, etc.)
If you have a feature request or found a bug to report, please fill the bug report form in the add-on's homepage (https://mybrowseraddon.com/text-editor.html).

Does what it says on the tin.
I'm not a coder, but I made constant use of Caret for various kinds of text manipulation. I needed to find a similarly powerful text editor that I can use once Chrome app support ends - and this is definitely it. I love it!
I didn't find an option that allows the editor to open inside the browser tab. It opens as a pop-up window. To me being able to open inside the browser with the ability to store either in the local or remote drive is essential. I would like the app to open the editor in a manner similar to another chrome plugin called Papier Without this ability, I find the app simply not useful.
Wow! Better and easier than screwing around with Dreamweaver. Brilliant.

How about native terminal from OS that Chrome browser was installed?, since looking for an alternative for VS Code, but can run offline on Chrome Extension

Amazing extension if you want to get some work done on a chromebook. A lot of times I'm sitting in study hall, bored and wasting time, but then I open this up and I'm able to easily get some work done on my websites. Although the real reason I gave it five stars was because the matrix theme is better than any other theme that any other text editor provides. One tiny suggestion I have is the option to toggle between the bigger button gui and the old one, but other than that, I would give this 6 stars if I could!

I do webdevelopment on my Chromebook for years. Normal i used Caret-editor, but it's not update anymore and have not a lot of functionality, so after searching a lot of time, don't found a good alternative, so last time using VSCode (linux), but this is not ChromeOS friendly and drain my battery (linux/Crostini). Until now, trying TextEditor, and works very well. Okay it missed some functions like Format Document/Beautifying and replace text, but is a good candidate to replace my 'old' Caret-editor and works nicely in ChromeOS. There only a few IDE's on ChromeOS, and the most are outdated or have a lot of bugs, TextEditor is at this moment my favorite. Hope see more functions in the future. Very good work! I like it :-)

It's just what I needed: Open an existing text file from a local drive or create one from scratch. Save the text file to a local drive.

I like it. I wish (1) it could open in a tab and (2) it could enable code folding.

Can't believe the app opens half-window, and can't be resized. Unistalled immediately

how to open this extension as a new tab in chrome, not as a standalone window?

Everything about it seems fine. My only query is that there is not a mode for Java specifically which is different to JavaScript, so when I want to save the file it's preset to JavaScript which I have to manually change. Also it seems for me that when I click the "Save" button nothing happens and I have to continually keep on clicking the "Save As" button whenever I want to save an updated file.

Looks good, like atom.
It's an easy application to use, it also allows me to copy code snippets and quickly locate opening and closing brackets, plus it's distraction-free and shows up every time I log myself into a Chrome browser... What more could I ask for?
