Accessibility testing tool from TPGi

Image from store ARC Toolkit
Description from store The ARC Toolkit is a set of accessibility tools which aids developers in identifying accessibility problems and features for WCAG 2.0, WCAG 2.1, WCAG 2.2, EN 301 549, and Section 508 The toolkit is designed to be integrated into automated and manual accessibility tests and works alongside the auditor or developer in order to simplify repetitive tasks and interactively explore accessibility features and problems. The ARC Toolkit is tightly integrated with Chrome’s Developer Tools and uses the ARC rule set, the same rules used by default in the ARC platform. This allows developers and quality assurance testers to take their ARC testing into their development environments and thoroughly investigate issues raised in ARC scans. Launched from the Developer Tools, the ARC Toolkit panel includes a set of tests that shows results both in the panel and in the page itself. Each test can be toggled on and off so types of issues can be isolated. Issues can be selected and viewed directly in the Elements panel. It runs completely local within Chrome and works within iframes, so it can evaluate any page you can browse to. If you would like to pages that are not live on a website but are in development, turn on the option to "Allow access to file URLs". Because this tool is actively used by the TPGi team, there are frequent updates as we further develop and refine the rules and features. If you would like training on how to use ARC Toolkit for testing, please contact TPGi at https://www.tpgi.com/contact/. This extension is governed by the license agreement at https://www.tpgi.com/arc-toolkit-the-service-terms-of-service/.

  • (2023-09-07) Forest Walker: This is the only accessibility tool that works with iframes... Not even google lighthouse can do that! Thank you for this awesome tool. 5 stars!!
  • (2023-01-19) Heather Migliorisi: UPDATE - Thank you so much for adding the missing items back. I absolutely love this tool! It is extemely helpful for viewing things like headings, landmarks, lists, forms, aria, and alt text for screenshots quickly and easily. 💗💗💗 -----------------original review----------------- The update removed the majority of features that made this tool so useful. Please rollback or bring back the features (resize text, headings, landmarks, lists, forms, aria, and easily displaying alt text for screenshots).
  • (2022-08-26) Shelly Gearheart: Since the last update to the toolkit, I'm seeing two errors. For the issue of "Aria label on incompatible element", it's showing in ARC toolkit as a "Best Practice", not as the error it is according to the ARC scan from their website. Also, the issue "Modal has no accessible name" is no longer showing in ARC toolkit scans. Other than that, at my place of work, we really miss the feature that showed the tab order.
  • (2022-08-23) Krzysztof Busłowicz: This used to be great, clean tool for preliminary accessibility checks and I used it for 5 years. Easy and stable interface. Sadly, the new version is almost unusable. Tool is sluggish and has messy interface. In previous version you could switch between topics with one click. Now you have to uncheck one and check another. Everything was available on main view. Now you have to perform addiitional clicking to get to ie. check reflow. That's no good UX for professional tool to make users click more and search for most used options. With such an improvement I'm going to find another tool.
  • (2022-08-05) Kinga Lisiecka-Garbaczewska: Previous version was really good. This is... truly terrible. I have no idea why you've decided to make your plugin so much worse. Please make previous version available again!
  • (2022-08-02) Rose Peruski: The previous version was so great, I don't know why the features were taken away. I loved using this tool for headings, landmarks, lists, easily displaying alt text for screenshots. I don't feel like there is anything in this version that I can't get in other tools any longer.
  • (2022-07-28) Jaime Anderson: Really disappointed with the update. Not helpful at all. Please rollback. I am going to look for another tool as ARC Toolkit is no longer helpful.
  • (2022-07-27) Srinivas Reddy: Newer version did not work, it shows blank. Kindly fix the bug or rollback to the older version.
  • (2022-07-26) Levan Taktakishvili: The previous version was so much better. Please roll back, or let us know if we can use older version prior to this major update.
  • (2022-07-21) Francis Zinke: Since the last update the good GUI is gone. The favorite Taborder feature is gone. No highlighting on the real webpage, just check in code. Good comparison can be seen in the old video with version 3.1 for instructions.
  • (2022-07-19) Norbert Goossens: Since the last update the Extension didn't work on my chrome anymore. I see no GUI. On Edge it works but I also miss the aweful tab-order.
  • (2022-07-18) Kurt Bunge: Don't know if the question is, "What have you done?" more so than "Why did you do it?". I've been using this tool since 2015. No more. Once you put glasses on The Mona Lisa or paint on earrings, it's no longer priceless. At that point it becomes a misguided effort. Be like Walmart and roll back, please.
  • (2022-07-14) Gosia Szymczak: The previous update is a disaster, the app is slower and doesn't have a tab order. Please return the previous version!
  • (2022-07-13) Iryna Slisarevska: New version is awful! Some of functionality is lost, it`s hard to understand ne one. How to download previous version?
  • (2021-02-03) Ivan Vladimirov: Using this as one of the top tools for semi-automated inspections, especially when doing WCAG-EM reports. We also recommend it to all QA and Dev: the selected element inspection and sending code fragment to W3C markup validation service are invaluable: let say when we want to validate only a new dialog inside a complex web interface. It will be nice to have more information on the upcoming replacement, to plan accessibility testing process changes accordingly and promptly.
  • (2020-01-27) Axel Holene: Just started using this one, and it looks promising. Though I would love some support for Dark Mode...
  • (2020-01-04) Cyprian: Great job!
  • (2019-06-11) N K: I like it but there seems to be a bug when I begin to scroll down to the lower test groups. Steps to recreate: 1) open ARC toolkit tab in inspector, click "run test" 2) click a test group with an error or warning 3) click an erroneous element in the test results (takes you to the "elements" tab) 4) go back to "ARC Toolkit" tab and try viewing a test group near the bottom of the list. The panel should jump back to the top when you try and scroll down.
  • (2019-05-22) Orsa Orsa: Checks contrast of text over images (not every instance, but often), provides a visual representation of tab order, and allows you to modify elements in the developer console and re-scan to see if fixes clear the error. EXTREMELY time saving for QC, as many other tools do not allow you to re-inspect the elements without refreshing the page and clearing any changes. Also appreciate the clear remediation recommendations.
