All the settings data is stored on your browser and the only data that may be sent to a server is the text that was selected to be spoken by Google voices. Works well but it's a bit annoying that I have to reinstall this every time I upgrade chrome because the languages disappear for some reason.

Plays short snippets, but for long passages or eBooks, it fails to play at all. I wanted to listen to eBooks and PDF's and it's not up to the job.

Great for the first few seconds, until it stops reading in the middle of a random sentence. Every single time. Makes the entire thing completely useless.
Doesn't read more than a few words at the time. Frustrating
For some reason this program will only read a sentence or two. I need it to read whole paragraphs or even entire articles.
