Highlights your WaniKani kanji and vocabulary on webpages that you visit.
WaniKani Highlighter marks the kanji and vocabulary you learned through WaniKani and brings them to your attention. This lets you more easily recognize what you are able to read and allows you to get an idea of your overall level.
Features include:
* Choosing the color to highlight with.
* Selecting to highlight kanji/vocabulary at a certain proficiency (apprentice, guru, etc).
* Create a list of websites to exclude in case you do not want to highlight on those sites.
* The ability to specify the opacity of the highlight in-case furigana is hidden behind the highlight.
Privacy Policy:
WaniKani Highlighter does not store any user information on external servers, nor does it share any information with any 3rd party. The user's extension settings, WaniKani API key, and kanji/vocabulary list are all stored using Chrome's storage API.

- (2020-12-03) Nathan S.: Just tells me API key doesn't work.
- (2018-08-12) sirati97: sadly the way it is implemented keeps many other plugins working. instead of just highlighting the word it is put into some tag that marks it as its own unit. this means that google translate for example translates the word independently of the enclosing sentence, or rikaikun doesn't recognise it as a word anymore if only part of the kanji are learned. please fix!
- (2017-12-12) Ary Borenszweig: Awesome! Now I have an idea of how much kanji/vocabulary I can read in a webpage, so it's a great way to see your "real" level, or your progress.
- (2016-12-30) Schindler Shadow: Great, but I wish it would color differently based on level.
- (2016-10-21) Goreae: It works great on japanese websites, but my only real issue is that it doesn't work on the wanikani forums. There's a section there that's exclusively in japanese which is a fantastic resource, and I would love to use the highlighter there, but the extension excludes the wanikani website I assume to prevent it highlighting in reviews or lessons and the like.
