Open links as background tabs by clicking links and holding for a half second.
This extension enabled opening links in a new tab with one button. When installed a long click on a link (½ second) will cause it to open in a new background tab.
This is an alternative to "middle-click" or "right-click->new tab" which is especially useful when using it on button-less laptops (Macbook) or laptops with only two buttons.
Note: This should work on all sites, please contact me at [email protected] if you notice any issues.

- [Known Issue] Facebook and Google Reader and some other sites open the clicked link in current window after long click. Workaround is to click and drag off after new tab has opened.

I thought that it didn't work, but then I realized that the following was happening: If I long click on a link THAT IS ALREADY CONFIGURED TO OPEN IN A NEW TAB, nothing happens.

リンクを長押しすると新規タブでリンク先を表示してはくれますが、現在のタブでも表示されてしまいます。一応、タブが開いた後に微妙にマウスの位置をずらすことで回避できますが、面倒です。 特定のページでのみこうなるようなので、そのページのみ拡張機能の動作を無効にできたりすればいいのですが、設定項目等は全くありません・・・
No options at all. Opens link in new tab in background AND in current tab. Useless.
This no longer works, and the developer (who was kind enough to respond when I said it wasn't working) said he does not support this any more. This was as of April 17, 2021.

It opens the page in the background, but also opens the same page in the foreground. Useless.

It works, but it open the link in the current window too. You have to move the mouse to make the link not open on current tab, which is very annoying.

In some sites, like duckduckgo, the new tab opens in the background but also in the current tab. So you'll end with duplicated tabs. I won't use the extension until that's fixed, but then this will be an essential.

Doesn't work at all. I can long click all day and the link opens only in the same tab.

It does what it says it does. Makes browsing the internet with a touch pad a lot easier.

great extension opens link in new unfocused tab. only two problems: Ext doesn't ignore click-and-drag, such as when dragging links to other applications. Also, it doesn't work in gMail.

not working on macbook air 2014
For me, it opens two new identical tabs instead of one. How to correct it?
it opens the link in new background tab, but also opens the same link in current tab. that's not good :/ also there's should be an option to adjust how long you should hold your mouse, 0,5 is too long for some people

It works, but it does EXACTLY the same thing as middle-click of link, so it does not seem to add any value to me.

I was looking for Google Toolbox - but I guess its gone. Then I installed a competitive Extension - (Click to Tab!) but didn't like that I could not really control LEFT click. This works perfectly. Hold the LEFT CLICK a little longer, and it spawns a new tab. Awesome - thanks FEATURE REQUEST: There's need out there for DOUBLE CLICK DELETES TAB - maybe you can add that feature next?
Usually opens the linked page in background AND into active windows. Opera does this better.
