- (2023-08-09) David Gessel: It injects google analytics code that includes the full URL of the page visited. What the motivation of the developer is to track every user's every page visited is, whether nefarious or curiosity or just data aggregation is pure speculation, but the call: https://ssl.google-analytics.com/__utm.gif?utmwv=5.7.2&utms=21&utmn=1846634066&utmhn=gessel.blackrosetech.com&utmt=event&utme=5(Bk101ExifAndrey243*NotifUI*msgForNotifsURLs%20is%20EMPTY)&utmcs=UTF-8&utmsr=1548x1313&utmvp=1530x1309&utmsc=24-bit&utmul=en-us&utmje=0&utmfl=-&utmdt=The%20end%20of%20a%20comic%20era%20%7C%20Gessel%20On...&utmhid=598185377&utmr=0&utmp=%2F2023%2F05%2F14%2Fthe-end-of-a-comic-era&utmht=1691540875437&utmac=UA-68817852-1&utmcc=__utma%3D114624785.1112307919.1687648025.1691523257.1691538355.74%3B%2B__utmz%3D114624785.1691437656.70.4.utmcsr%3Dgithub.com%7Cutmccn%3D(referral)%7Cutmcmd%3Dreferral%7Cutmcct%3D%2F%3B&utmjid=&utmu=4AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAE~ that's crystal clear. There's no way to disable this data collection. The privacy page does mention this: Do we use Google Analytics? Our extension, apps or services may use Google Analytics to track basic events like usage of features, catch errors, and improve the quality proactively. For instance, we track service's events like REQUESTED, SUCCESS or FAILED to make monitor the service quality and usage to fix issues proactively. ... "may" ... (does) "requested" means every page you visit with the plugin active. This is unlikely to be acceptable to many users.
- (2023-02-03) Pantel Ain: Δεν δουλευει σε μένα
- (2022-11-22) Tom B: DO NOT INSTALL They secretly added Google Analytics tracking that *tracks every page you visit*. Their "privacy policy" claims they do not do this. This is illegal under GDPR so any EU citizen using this Extension could file a complaint against them.
- (2022-11-01) Percy (Percy): Tracks every site visit using Google Analytics!
- (2022-10-14) Chris Richter: DOES NOT WORK! Other reviewers say the same exact thing. Maybe this worked at one point but it no longer works now. Very frustrating. I rarely write reviews but I wanted to warn anyone thinking about downloading and installing this to their chrome browser - don't do it. It's a complete waste of time. Sorry to burst your bubble but it doesn't work. I wrote this on 10/14/22. Thanks!
- (2022-07-19) John Pravus: Doesn't seem to work, at all.
- (2021-08-03) Cx Files: Has google analytics that tracks EVERY single page you visit. Reported.
- (2021-04-07) Queen Anne's Revenge: Does not work and many of the 5 star reviews are obviously fake.
- (2021-04-01) Tatiana Matantseva:
- (2021-03-10) Hao Peng: Very high cpu usage for no clear reasons. Disabled and CPU usage went down immediately. This does not always happen but I have no clue what would trigger high CPU usage. So I just turn it on when necessary, which is rare.
- (2021-01-03) Chris: Be aware they add their own google analytics tracking to every single site you open so they're tracking everything you do.
- (2020-12-27) たていす: this extension inserts Google Analytics in web page.
- (2020-03-23) Jasper Peters: Simply doesn't work. Clicking the toolbar icon: nothing happens. Using the context menu option: nothing happens. Straight up uninstall. Not worth the time to install!
- (2019-11-03) T I: Didn't work at all.
- (2019-09-13) Mihail Amurov:
This extension does not free the memory it takes when you open EXIF panel, even after you close it or close the tab. As a result, after just a few EXIF lookups, it consumes huge amounts of RAM. Don't use it.
- (2019-06-13) Marra Paneza: AWESOME THANKS
- (2019-03-15) This plugin exhausts my CPU in the background even when I'm not using it at all. Either there is a bug in the plugin or the plugin is mining crypto coins without consent.
- (2018-12-31) Kurz und schmerzlos: Funktioniert nicht!
- (2018-11-24) Scott: This plugin does work in the sense that it shows EXIF data, along with histogram data. It does not show all EXIF data though...only specific fields, so some EXIF data is not shown. Would prefer to see all EXIF data, or at least the option for it. Unfortunately when it comes to security, it's pretty sloppy. It really needs a security audit to determine just how vulnerable, but in a few minutes I was able to find the following issues. I'll break down my rating like this: - Functionality: 4 - Interface: 3 - Security: 1 Total rating with weight on Security: 2 It sends and retrieves data to 9(!) different domains via insecure connections (http instead of https), with no disclosure in the plugin description. These are contacted either by XML HTTP Request (XHR) silently in the browser background without your knowledge, or they have an HTML link. (Most are by XHR.) When you don't use a secure internet connection - https (SSL/TLS) - any website/URL you visit could be a hacker imitating that site and stealing your data (auth cookies, private data, etc) - it's called a Man in the Middle Attack. Also, your data is not encrypted so it's flying around the internet in clear text and you increase your chance of getting hacked and leaking privacy info. Even if you think that the target domain will just redirect your link or XHR to a secure version of the URL, you would be wrong, because it could get intercepted before it even gets to the target site, and then redirected to any site, without your knowledge. In the plugin's code I found the following 9(!) domains accessed via http (insecure) connection instead of https (secure) connection. api.flickr.com cdn.sstatic.net code.google.com dl.comsoc.org maps.google.com ns.adobe.com stackoverflow.com tiny.cc www.google.com In addition, the following 8 domains are accessed via a secure connection (https): ajax.googleapis.com dl.dropboxusercontent.com dsnet.bitbucket.io gapps-61f4c.firebaseapp.com ssl.google-analytics.com www.dpreview.com www.google-analytics.com www.paypal.com That's 17 domains being accessed! That's a lot for one Chrome extension. There's also a lot of room for security issues when you're dealing with that many....it's just not necessary. URL shorteners in the code: tiny.cc In addition to not being a secure URL, this is an obscured link via a URL shortener...terrible security practice for an extension or plugin. The destination URL should be transparent. (At least the domain.) User data is being tracked by Google Analytics. I find that pretty offensive and refuse to use extensions that do this. I know devs/authors may be allowed to do this, but from a privacy point of view it's a terrible idea to use analytics software in an extension without any kind of notice, and without any opt-out capability!! Definitely not GDPR compliant! One last point on security: The plugin contains an image saying it's certified to not have malware, viruses, etc. I find that a little offensive considering just how poor its security is. Having an image like that can create a false sense of security for users. (It's actually what red-flagged me to look through the code, as it seemed odd.) Not ok. To be clear, this was not a security audit, just some quick notes. It needs a real security audit performed. However, I've seen enough issues to not use this plugin. I would recommend you not use it either until it gets a security overhaul.
- (2018-11-01) Marc Kluijtmans: I messes up page loading in Flickr. Pretty annoying.
- (2018-09-26) NABIL ABDULLA: Works good!
- (2018-09-20) fletch b: Does nothing except take up disk space. Right clicking on images does nothing. Removed!
- (2018-09-16) tg fdp: Ne fonctionne pas
- (2018-04-10) Gersivan Oliveira: Infelizmente não funciona no Flickr.
- (2018-03-21) Eeen85: Rubbish, flashes up info then goes straight to adverts.
- (2018-01-05) Ole Hinz: Nice tool. Especially the possibility to view geo coordinates on google map is top.
- (2017-11-01) Melanie Lundy: Did not work for me.
