ProWritingAid is a self-editing tool that helps you feel confident in your writing, by providing instant analysis and improvements. Alongside a grammar checker and paraphrasing tool, you get 25+ writing reports to ensure error-free, engaging, and memorable writing.
📝How It Works
ProWritingAid provides grammar corrections and style improvements you can either accept, deny, or click to learn more about.
You can customize your dictionary and style guide and personalize your settings to receive relevant suggestions that are tailored to your writing style and goals.
To get started:
• Install the extension, then open Google Docs or any writing website.
• Look for the ProWritingAid icon. The icon turns pink when ProWritingAid finds potential improvements in your writing. It turns green when you've accepted all suggestions.
• Click to move the ProWritingAid icon so it doesn’t get in the way of what you’re writing. Activate “focus mode” by clicking on the “eye” icon in the menu, to avoid distractions while drafting.

- I absolutely love ProWritingAid. I've been using this program for over five years (first in Word then in a web based program). With the tips through this program, my writing has definitely improved. No, it's not perfect, and there are times the suggestions do not go with what I am writing, but nothing is perfect. For the most part, it is a great program and I would highly recommend ProWritingAid.

- I came over from Grammarly. I wanted to try something new and the introductory price was good. I have been pleased with the results. However, there are some issues. Some of the rephrases are not tied to the context correctly. Some of the executions of the rephrases leave a mess. In all fairness, Grammarly and Copilot have similar issues. I have yet to use its differentiating features such as full story analysis and genre-specific reviews and reports. Once I have done so, I will post an updated review. I do recommend that people give this product a fair shot. It does a good job as a proof-reader, and that is what I need. After all, it's not a great idea to "edit your own term-paper," and this applies to emails, org chats, and so on. This application gives me confidence I can send clear communications.

- It really helps me catch my grammar mistakes and makes my sentences flow together better. The only downside is that it keeps logging out on Google Docs, and I have to repeatedly remove it from Chrome and then reinstall it.

- So I kid you not, this program is a definite level-up for me. Alongside beta readers it gives a full spectrum of insights. I bought the lifetime subscription halfway through my one year subscription, I love it that much. You will occasionally receive hilariously contorted suggestions that are the results of just switching out synonyms that don't match exactly but that is in the minority.

- Very good extension, but as with all grammar checkers, occasionally it does not pick up elementary mistakes or assumes the word, "unrelatable" is not a real word. I would really like a feature that would disable the pop-up square that always invades your limited screen space (on websites like google docs). The extension bar is enough for people to change settings, and I am not sure why that isn't enough for this extension. Aside from these small things, the extension performs very well and is worthwhile to use.

- This has to be my favorite extension! I am simply amazed at how often ProWritingAid comes to my rescue, even when I had no idea I needed rescuing! To me, that is the nicest thing about PWA, it’s like having a friend who catches my meandering thoughts, crazy misspellings, and redundant language usage during those heavy, long hours of the night, when my mind wants dance and my body wants to rest. I tried the free version for a couple of days and quickly realized I had to tie the knot, and we are still going, stronger than ever, since 2021. No regrets. She just makes me better in so many ways. I’m proud to be her “lifer”!

- I have only used this program for four days; nonetheless, I am impressed with its features at the free version level. For example, in case of misspellings, it presents several options. Although, that level does not offer exact recommendations, the examples provide have been helpful in many cases. Also, it works well in Chrome.

- I just switched from Grammarly to ProWritingAid on 11/16/2025. Yes, I agree with the negative reviews on some things. I feel very disappointed that they put simple features behind a paywall, but overall everything here is amazing, and I don't regret my decision.

- Unlike most of the reviews (the first on the list of reviews you can see) I saw here I see that many found this to be bad but I actually found this quite helpful and loved how it helped me but I do have some suggestions. First, when I want to interact with the word instead of letting my mouse float above. Second, could you put different examples (for the suggestions that you need premium for). Third, I believe that there is a button where once you press 'not bring up again' or something to not underline that word again because I am writing a fantasy novel and I am kinda getting angry when I have to repeatedly dismiss the same word again. I do think this is a amazing help and I would love it to see one of my suggestions used. ☺

- I had to download the desktop app since I couldn't use the website anymore and I had a manuscript analysis credit (a paid one, not the free one) so when I finally got to do the analysis, it comes up blank, so they took my money, and never gave me the analysis I paid for. A complete waste of money, I do not recommend this at all. I'm definitely cancelling my subscription.

- I love their apps, and the extension works well but I DESPISE the floating button. No matter where I try putting the button it inevitably ends up in front of something I need to interact with. Please get rid of the floating button and move those functions into extension button on the toolbar like almost every other extension so it isn't causing me so many problems!

- Paid for premium a while back. The browser extensions dramatically slow down every browser I try them on (3 so far). Completely unusable and annoyingly intrusive. Disabled it, and a simple Google Search goes from 3 seconds down to 0.5. Turned it on again, and back up to 3-4 seconds. I only have 6 total extensions installed. Slows down other sites too. Choose any free AI tool over this.

- ProWritingAid is very useful for aspiring writers. It helps with grammar and spelling, understanding style, sentence length and structure, readability, etc., and learn from it. Other writing tools can be used while using this writing tool too. It can instantly correct errors and provide feedback. Though it is not so convenient that the free option only provides up to 500 words. Also, if there is a learning or practice on "how to reduce glue index with practice," it may come handy. Also, I'm upset that it does not provide other English dialects like Indian English. Sometimes, the feedback can be a bit overwhelming. Overall, it's worth to have this extension but buy the subscription for proper full access.

- I have decided to give this a try to use for writing a fiction novel. It is a little buggy however the reports and ease of use make it worth while. I am particularly looking forward to running the full reports on the who manuscript. I would recommend. I have used paid Grammerly in the past and I prefer this and link the browser extensions I use Google Docs.

- I am a published author. With the help of ProWriting Aid, I do not have to pay to have a person edit my writing. This tool does everything and anything a professional editor would do and I don't know what I would do with it!!

- Very basic and very buggy. Can get the same insights they are tagging with "new" and "AI" by using chatgpt for free. I would not pay for this, but would use the free version. (It was better before they added the floating menu, which in Google docs makes it unusable as it's so disruptive.)

- Price? Very reasonable. Convenience, extremely convient. I have access to it no matter where I go. Is it perfect? No such thing exist. You need a human for that, but... they aren't perfect either. It catches alot! It helps with my writing, giving me options on other ways of saying something. Spelling off? Yeah, it takes care of that too. Yes, I have MS Word, I also purchased Scrivener at Literature&Latte - I haven't looked back. ProWritingAid helps with many writing tools. I use it with LivingWriter - what a winning pair!
