Instantly Enhance Your Texts with LanguageTool’s Grammar Checker and Paraphrasing Tool
★ Finds many errors that a simple spell checker cannot detect
★ No registration needed
★ Supports more than 25 languages (see below)
★ Works on almost any website including Gmail, Facebook, Twitter
This extension ensures that your writing is error-free. LanguageTool detects many errors that a simple spell checker cannot, such as grammar issues, commonly confused words, and punctuation oversights. Additionally, LanguageTool offers style suggestions to elevate your writing: synonym replacements for overused words, concise rephrasing of wordy sentences, and formal alternatives to commonly used expressions.
LanguageTool is designed with simplicity in mind, instantly analyzing your text as you type. It is compatible with most platforms, including social networks such as Twitter and LinkedIn, and e-mail services such as Gmail.
With LanguageTool, our aim is to give users a full-feature grammar checker and proofreader that will enable them to have control and confidence over their content. While LanguageTool is a vital extension for non-native speakers, it also recognizes many mistakes that are frequently made by native speakers. This grammar and spelling correction works across several varieties of commonly spoken languages, and is capable of distinguishing between American and British English. LanguageTool also features a personal dictionary for exceptions or words that you might commonly use, but are not found in a conventional dictionary; it will learn to recognize these words for future grammar checking and proofreading.
Unlike other services like Grammarly (a.k.a. Grammerly :-), QuillBot, and Ginger, LanguageTool supports more than 25 languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Polish, and Russian (see below for the complete list).
Your privacy is important to us: By default, this extension will check your text by sending it to https://languagetool.org over a securely encrypted connection. No account is needed to use this extension. We don't store your IP address. See https://languagetool.org/privacy/ for our privacy policy.
List of supported languages: English (Australian, Canadian, GB, New Zealand, South African, US), French, German (Austria, Germany, Swiss), Asturian, Belarusian, Breton, Catalan (also Valencian), Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Galician, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Ukrainian, Arabic

- Excellent extension prior to be putting entirely behind a paywall. Unless you are willing to get the premium subscription, this extension no longer is functional. Very disappointing, but was happy for it while it lasted. RIP.
- Ian Brown
- Fantastic plugin, super helpful.
- Tyler Duncan
- I've been using Premium for a few weeks now, and I personally really enjoy it. It's a lifesaver, and I absolutely love it. I would highly recommend Premium.
- Eric Ketzer
- Well, I have the free premium for now. Thing is it is pretty bad. I intentionaly make obvious mistakes and the extension won't even recognize them. And it will point me some mistakes, when they're aren't any. Something is broken with their AI. So not only they are asking to pay soon to be able to use that extension, but that extension isn't even worth using it anymore, even for free.
- Connor Linville
- Loved it until they removed everything from free users.
- Tucker Gratton
- Devs got greedy and went premium only.
- Alexander H.
- Auto-recognises the language you type in, so ideal for polyglots. I use it to improve/correct my German while using Signal. I happily pay for my annual subscription, so LanguageTooler can improve the product even more. Let's support European tech!
- Erin O'Neill
- was awesome until they changed it and now you have to pay to use it.
- Maksym Medvediev
- It's okay-ish for a free extention, but it's not NEARLY good enough to pay for. It manages basic spelling, but misses more complex grammar half the time - I still had to check my text every time before submitting. The audacity to demand payment for uncomplete product is something else. Strongly not recommend.
- TheA2ace
- This service should be part of Chrome OS and not a pay for service...
- Mine Border
- Can't do anything without a premium subscription. They gave you a free trial which it wasn't really explained. The trial doesn't give you full access to all of the features so what is even the point of giving me a free trial.
- Preeti Berwal
- It was so good, but now.....WE HAVE TO PAY TO USE IT!!!!!
- Barry-Lee Pace
- After years of using "other brands of Ai-writing assitants I had to relinquish my subscription due to cost. When I saw this model having to stay competitive I opened my wallet. I wanted to support them because of the excellence of their software product.
- Arnold Bennett
- GREEDY CORPORATION. I ASK THEM TO REVERSE THEIR GREEDINESS AND BLOCK ME FROM THEIR EMAIL. CORPORATE LOGIC, I GUESS
- Matthew Bennett
- HOPE THIS GREEDY COMPANY GOES BROKE OVER GREEDY PATRICE. SINCE THE COSTUMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, I DEMAND A REVERT

- Dale Payne
- I loved this extension, but with them having disabled almost all the features in free mode I'm uninstalling and finding a new free extension.
- David Bevan
- This WAS a good extension. But the devs decided having access to literally everything you type through it just wasn't enough. They switched to a subscription model and lost me, and just about everyone else. All those who are looking for an alternative, consider Harper - Private Grammar Checker, or something else...
- Ugly Picture
- Quite genuinely the only dependable and consistently working Writing Tool I've ever used. And while I'm saddened that the devs decided to make it unavailable for free users, I'd honestly have no problem paying a monthly fee to use it... if I could afford to do that. But I can't; so like hundreds of other users, I'm forced to find an alternative.
- KEVIN HALLEY SOUZA SANTOS
- A really good tool. A must have for anyone who writes a lot.
- Oliver C
- In loving memory of Languagetool. My best friend in writing for the past 5+ years and a lot of fun to have around. Our days are now behind us. It is with huge regret that I submit this 1-star review and uninstall Languagetool. Anyway, I don't get why they'd do this. So they're kicking out all their free customers. Alright. Is this gonna encourage those customers to pay to continue using it when there are a hundred other free alternatives around? Now their usage base is gonna drop by like 95% and it's not like it'll get them any more profit or paying customers. Good luck to you Languagetool.

- Paying for real improvements is one thing. But when the creators suddenly decide to charge just because they can... nope. You can’t. Best of luck (no)

- Apparently, the new business model is 'pay up because the AI boom scared us.' It doesn't take a genius to realize that alienating your user base is a death sentence. Good luck with the bankruptcy; turn the lights out when you're done.
- Rory Haggart
- I partly understand the move to a paid only model but it does feel like an immediate move to the nuclear option to stop the tool working at all for free users. Additionally, since I had the notification and the extension stopped working, this extension caused bad behaviour on my chrome. Tabs would start automatically closing one-by-one, and no matter how many times I reopened them, they would continue to close. Quite a scary surprise - felt like some sort of malware had infected. I disabled my extensions one at a time to observe behaviour, and languagetool was the one causing this bug...
- Richard Davies
- Was great until they went paid only, there is an alternative called Private Grammar Checker - Harper chrome extension on here, so give that a go as it does the same thing.
- David Wolfe
- Requires payment.
- Jose Sevillano
- This was one of the best spelling extensions, but instead of offering actual value and great features on the premium version, they decided to manufacture a paywall offering nothing extra. Making it premium only has absolutely destroyed the trust I once had on them.

- £47.92 /year. No thank you,
- Floriano
- Very good app, the company that I work use it all day long!
- Кирилл Рудавин
- Don't install that paid garbage. I will find free alternatives.
- Kerry Elverstone
- I've used this for years, its amazing. I understand the need to make money on the product, but its completely priced out of my budget. I'd pay £3.99 for it monthly but I can't afford to buy a year up front!
- Spyros Ntaountakis
- Payers only. What a shame...
- Dan de Lench
- So far excellent, still learning it!
- Ryan itam
- I've been using this for more than 2 years and this is what they give back?
- Lairfite
- Was great and free, now subscription is the only option? screw subscriptions. -_-

- RIP

- This product is amazing! Despite the negative review's I am not completely sure why anyone would give this product a negative review. This is easy and simple to use. With just a few clicks of a button it corrects any mistakes/typo's made with a blink of an eye. This product is worth your time. Please utilize this tool in all aspects of writing. Thank you for providing a solid tool! I've been using it for over 6 months now, and have never had any issues.

- Unethical. Uninstalled.
- Chris Hawryluk
- It added a Premium trial on it's own and now that it ended it just says "Upgrade to keep using this browser extension and enhance your writing quality across the web." and no longer works. I guess back to Grammarly.
- Justin Knoke
- Great tool but it's a spell checker, I'm not paying for that.
- someperson v
- why paid really make this one without ai andask to pay for AI
- Google “Wizard” Account
- I've made a "difficult" decision to delete this extension as they just announced that it's no longer free. So don't waste your time here, there's plenty of free alternatives
- Joshua Chaput
- Now with a crazy subscription fee
- Jacob Cornwell
- greedy pos company, I will not pay to continue to use your app
- Ricky Hain
- Its pretty funny how they act as if their hands were forced into making this a paid service. No one should pay a recurring subscription for a service that does not receive or need regular updates. Many people downloaded this because they were tired of Grammarly's pay-walled suggestions. You were not forced into make this decision, you just waited until your user base was big enough for this made sense financially. Also, your prices are ridiculous and intentionally deceptive. The fake 20% discount, and the range from $20 to $4 a month depending on the plan
- Jackie Mutch
- I have used LanguageTool for years. I write in a combination of American English and British English, and since I am learning German as well, this was the perfect tool for me. I am upset that it has come to me uninstalling it when I used this tool everyday for years. RIP to the greatest spell checker I have used.
- Mark Rosenthal
- They just told me I have 14 days to decide, I must buy the premium version or I won't be able to use the extension anymore. This was the easiest decision I have made all year, I didn't like this extension that much to begin with.
- Shawn Davis
- Are you joking? You're browser is literally called AI Grammar Checker and you're going to start charging a stupid amount due to AI taking from you?
- Carlos Carroll
- 1 star for being greedy....
