Description from store
★ Finds many errors that a simple spell checker cannot detect
★ No registration needed
★ Supports more than 25 languages (see below)
★ Works on almost any website including Gmail, Facebook, Twitter
This free extension ensures that your writing is error-free via the grammar and style checker LanguageTool. LanguageTool detects many errors that a simple spell checker cannot, such as grammar issues, commonly confused words, and punctuation oversights. Additionally, LanguageTool offers style suggestions to elevate your writing: synonym replacements for overused words, concise rephrasing of wordy sentences, and formal alternatives to commonly used expressions.
LanguageTool is designed with simplicity in mind, instantly analyzing your text as you type. It is compatible with most platforms, including social networks such as Twitter and LinkedIn, and e-mail services such as Gmail.
With LanguageTool, our aim is to give users a full-feature grammar checker and proofreader that will enable them to have control and confidence over their content. While LanguageTool is a vital extension for non-native speakers, it also recognizes many mistakes that are frequently made by native speakers. This grammar and spelling correction works across several varieties of commonly spoken languages, and is capable of distinguishing between American and British English. LanguageTool also features a personal dictionary for exceptions or words that you might commonly use, but are not found in a conventional dictionary; it will learn to recognize these words for future grammar checking and proofreading.
Unlike other services like Grammarly (a.k.a. Grammerly :-), QuillBot, and Ginger, LanguageTool supports more than 25 languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Polish, and Russian (see below for the complete list).
Your privacy is important to us: By default, this extension will check your text by sending it to https://languagetool.org over a securely encrypted connection. No account is needed to use this extension. We don't store your IP address. See https://languagetool.org/privacy/ for our privacy policy.

- (2025-07-07) I liked it, remedies mistakes right on-point and the pro subscription is worth it.
- (2025-07-07) It's good, a little slower as compared to it's alternative. But it's core is open-source, it consumes lesser resources and it doesn't require an account to start using it. You may require to login to unlock more features. Also, there are less number of applications supported as of now, and I believe they'll soon resolve it. And few more good things are, the date is not shared outside our system, and we can select and deselect in which applications we want it to be ON. I request the developers to keep up the good work, and please add more applications to support, and bring faster updates.

- (2025-06-21) It works. It's fabulous, but it gets in the way of you typing anything in a box. It will NOT let you space ahead. It's so ANNOYING. I had to remove it after 1 day
- (2025-06-21) Do not trust this extension! I have reported this extension and the corporation behind it, Learneo, to the Information Commissioners Office. They fail to respond to privacy emails within a legal amount of time, I had to reach out to them multiple times to even get an explanation. Trust me when I say do not trust this extension or the company, Learneo, with any of your data!
- (2025-06-19) for me its been years with this tool, very little expectations for other grammar checker
- (2025-06-17) LT is a great tool, however there are rules that are given that I disagree with, in particular, when LT does not consider the context in which a word or expression is used. I think LT should be more open to expressions and modisms that are unique in each country in which spanish is spoken in Latino-America. There are some differences in the ways that the same owrd is used it. Also LT should incorporates the nuances of the culture and how words are use. Rules should be adpated accordingly.
- (2025-06-13) This extension is perfect to have my grammar checked, sometimes it stops working, and I reinstall it and it back.
- (2025-06-13) Like others have reported, it was very useful, but either a recent update by LanguagueTool or Google-Docs, has rendered the double-click in document spelling correction, and offering of synonyms, no longer functions. Seems to work in other applications. Hopefully a fix for Google Docs soon as it is where I found it most useful.
- (2025-06-12) show

- (2025-06-12) easy to work with
- (2025-06-11) Stopped working in all the ways that mattered. It tells me my errors without giving me suggestions. This used to work but stopped randomly. I've tried all troubleshooting suggestions.

- (2025-06-04) Found it in the reviews for the Grammarly extension. Way better would use again
- (2025-06-01) Had to delete this frustrating extension. It's supposed to be a productivity tool, instead it constantly interrupts you with annoying popups, either trying to sell you something, or offering completely irrelevant suggestions. What's more, its placement would often get in the way of functional buttons on whichever platform you're working in. Great when it worked, but most of the time it is simply to obtrusive to be useful.
