With this extension you can control youtube, musicplayr, soundcloud, vimeo and deezer players from any tab without struggling by simply clicking the button in the chrome toolbar. It searches for the players in all open tabs and displays a list of them in the popup, where it is possible to press play or pause.

It works, so there is that, but it is a bit too simple. I was more looking for a skip and back button too.
