Description from store Updated February 2017: uses new speech engine, no separate download required. This is a female US English text-to-speech (TTS) voice extension that runs in your browser using Native Client technology. This extension does not do anything by itself. When installed, it provides an additional voice that talking apps and extensions can use. This voice is a US English female voice, built by Google. The synthesis engine runs directly in your browser using Native Client technology - no network required. That means it's fast and responsive, suitable for accessibility applications.

(2021-06-24) Bob Loucks: Works Great if you prefer Windows 10 browser over chrome. Chrome already has it available for extensions like Checker plus for calendar and its cousin for Gmail, but now i was able to apply this and have the option available for windows. Tips hat at devs !

(2019-01-13) Sarsaparilla Sunset: For anyone wondering what this extension does, it is not an TTS application. It only provides a text-to-speech voice, which can be used by other TTS applications to synthesize speech. For example, if you use the excellent TTS app called "Read Aloud", after you install this Google extension, a new voice named "US English Female TTS (by Google)" will appear in the Read Aloud options. The cool thing is this voice will work even offline when you don't have internet.
